    The Strange in Town

    Billy, Jay
It's late autumn in the small town of Solemn Falls, and the kids have grown tired of complaining about the start of the school year. Your three characters live far enough from school that you take the bus each day, and each of you end up on the same bus along the way. It's a dry and chilly Wednesday, with the sun drunkenly rising off in the distance.

    When Sean's picked up....
    Everyone
The bus begins rolling away from your bus stop before you’ve taken your seats, causing you to lurch your way towards the back. Glancing back over your shoulder, you see Groucho’s eyes in the rearview mirror, those steely blue orbs demanding that you find a place to sit immediately. You do so, your breath hanging on the air, your eyes looking out onto the passing landscape, taking it in with the sure knowledge that you’ll be in a classroom for several hours that will seem like an eternity.

Who did their homework last night? If you're behind on work, are you going to attempt to finish it during the bus ride?

Billy's wearing a common outfit, well-pressed corduroy pants, a nice button-down shirt, and subdued tennis shoes. His glasses, chunky plastic frames, fall slightly down his nose as the bus lurches forward. He, as always, has done all of his homework. So he opens a fairly thick book for a 12 year-old, and begins reading.

Jay takes the lurch with a grin and an exaggerated "woaaaah" before plopping down into the nearest available seat on the left. She is dressed in jeans and a red t shirt with the "UFC" logo in bold letters on the front and back. She lets her eyes wander with her mind around the bus, any thought of actually finishing her homework getting buried with each observation.

Sean is every bit the model student. His dark brown hair is combed neatly to the side, his features awake and vigilant. He was wearing dark pants and a white shirt, looking prim and proper and in prime condition. He took a seat and gazed out of the window.

All of the kids on the bus glance towards Groucho as the bus begins to slow down. The realization dawns quickly: it’s a new bus stop! The students look out of the right window, some dashing across the aisle to get a better view. The first thing you notice is the old Mayfair House, a massive, dark affair that seems more like a crouching gray frog than a home. Dwarfed by the house’s shadow you see him: The new kid. The doors squeak open, and you hear his light footsteps on the stairs before his head appears at the far end of the aisle. He is small and frail, with thick glasses, short hair and no chin to speak of. He has obviously been dressed by his parents, wearing a collared shirt tucked into brown slacks that looks like something your parents might wear. Clutched in his hand is an old copy of The Danger Brothers, a set of stories about two brothers who solve mysteries through logic. As the bus pulls away, you glance back at the Mayfair House. You can’t shake the feeling that you are being watched.

          ((What do you do?))

Sean keeps a clear and decides to logically deduct who exactly is watching him, if anyone (roll Investigation + Intelligence)

Are you asking to see who is watching your character, or the other kid?

Sean wants to know why is he feeling watched, by scanning the environment.

One of the kids sitting behind the new child leans forward. "What's that old book? Why can't you read something cool?" He laughs and smacks the new kid upside the head. That draws several snickers from others in surrounding seats.

Billy glances over at the new kid, strangely feeling somewhat of a kindred spirit. He, luckily, sits just a seat behind him in the other aisle. "Hey, what's, um, your name?" He asks, barely audible.

Jay watches the house until it fades from view before shifting her focus to the new arrival. Upon seeing him being hit from behind she calls out "Hey, cheap shot!" in the hope of getting the jerk's attention. The new kid seems like a creep, but his tormentors seem like some good fun.

Sean watches the other kids, seemingly amused but otherwise indifferent. He's more concerned with this omnious feeling of being watched, something definitely doesn't add up.

While the kids nearby are focusing on Jay, the new kid brushes a hand through his dirty blonde hair. He says back, with a stammer, "My name's Bradley. What's yours?"

                          Jay
The rowdy kids turn to you. One of them, a preppy-looking boy with cropped brown hair and a smooth face, quirks his mouth. "If bust your nose would you call that a cheap shot, too? Or maybe you're just covering up because you can't fight." Some of the other kids chuckle. You know this kid. This is Max Cooper, the boy that wears expensive shirts and fine slacks. Visually, he stands out from the other with his confident, hard jaw and wiry musculature.

                          Sean
Your eyes fall on the new boy, and you notice another boy speaking to him. The new kid is pressed against the window, as if he's trying to get uninvolved with the kids around him. He mouths something to the other boy, Billy, and then lowers his head.

Sean studies the new kid, making the assumption that the kid comes from a traditionalist, conservative family. He might have been sheltered from the outside world, which explains his confused and meek demeanor. He is intrigued, and would like to learn more about the nerdy new kid.

Jay makes eye contact with Max, with a grin she replies"If you could even land a hit I'd call it luck, not that'd help you once I took your ass to the ground. Heck, I'd be surprised if you'd even come at someone you knew would fight back."
