  • Hey guys, It's been a while. Are all of you alright?

    • Wormwood ArchonAres Caladriu Haberdasher so, I'm not dead, but life did its level best to make me that way. I owe you guys an explanation. My practicum last term did not go well. My teacher mentor was reaping the consequences of bad personal life decisions, and he took it out on me. I wasn't his kind of teacher, so there was personal friction mixed with "my way or the highway" attitude. I got by on the skin of my teeth, and on top of that my home situation took a bit of a turn for the worst. Took all my energy just to keep moving forwards.

I'm significantly better now, and itching with stories to tell. If you'll have me back, I'm ready to continue Muddy Waters.

Also, someone new requested to join the game as a Promethean rescued in the attack on Amalgama, so Caius Wickersham you get a notice too.

      • Well, I might as well introduce myself. I've been wanting to play Promethean for a while and I saw this game up. I asked Arcanist if he had extra room and we've been discussing my coming in since November (obviously some give and take there with his busy schedule). I hope I can fit in with the group.

Hey man, sorry to hear that! I can very much imagine what that's like. Glad to hear you're alright!
Well, I'd be thrilled to continue, at the very least =) People disappearing for a while is simply one of the dangers of PbP, due to the amount of time a game takes. I'm sure the others feel the same.

Caius Wickersham Hey Caius, sounds good to me. What did you have in mind for your char?

          • My guy is an Osiran currently on the Plumbum Transmutation (I picked up the Alembic for making a branded throng as well). My image of him is essentially a Promethean scientist, studying Prometheans and all their strange bits along with humanity. He's also got some survival skills thanks to coming out of the lake country east of the city.

            • Welcome back! And Caius Wickersham welcome aboard!

I like these characters and I still wanna play with whoever's around, but I don't wanna get bogged down in scenes we're not having fun with. Can I make some suggestions?
              • I think we should have Arcanist briefly narrate us to the end of the Amalgama raid, rather than picking up where we left off. If there's a big scene you really want to play out at Amalgama, like a villain speech or complex skill roll or Milestone, we can jump right into that and bite into something fun before moving on to the next story with our new PC.
              • I would like it across the board if we did more broad, light, fast-moving stuff and fewer dense dialogue/conversation updates, at least until we're in a good groove again. I'm in a Mage game right now that has really good pacing; we talk more conversationally with the ST about what we're doing and then "zoom in" on interesting stuff to play it out in-character, rather than treating everything as a full scene. It would be cool to do something similar-ish like at the beginning of this game, when it was more brief updates saying what we're doing and only getting denser when interesting stuff is happening. Shorter lighter posts and scenes with a clear sense of what's going on are good habits for PBP!

              • Welcome back. I'm still ready to rock. I am really hoping to have Scout find the amalgama lab and it's gadgets, as the study of pyros and creating things is his big thing, and he is still in torment so...

                • I agree with Caladriu about the epilogue for Amalgama. No sense diving back into an action scene months after the fact. I also agree with the game turning a little more conversational, because that allows character to develop and I really enjoy the idea of that. (Also, more opportunity for me to introduce characters. Yay! I've got a lot of stuff in my back pocket) Let me double check my notes and I'll be back in a few days with an epilogue to the raid all set to go and we can carry on from there.

                  • Holy crap! What is dead may never die!

I'm very sorry guys, family issues and the start of a much-busier semester took me by surprise. I haven't even been active on the forums. But this morning I decided to check in on a whim and I'm very glad I did.

Yes, I am fine with us skipping past the Amalgama fight, it would be super strange to drop us back into the middle of a combat after several months. I am a firm "ready to go."

                    • So, looks like we got the whole crew back together. I was beginning to worry.

                      • Give me another day to edit the stuff I have going for an epilogue and then we'll be back on track.

EDIT: ArchonAres Caladriu Caius Wickersham Haberdasher Wormwood we're back online! I've left some neat Storytelling opportunities open, and figured that a time skip sort of needed to happen. Feel free to spend any and all Experiences you've accrued, just let me know what the result is.

Also, feel free to give me a refresher on your Aspirations so I remember to incorporate them more this time around.

                        • I feel like Scout has been spending his time researching the Rebis, and perhaps has attempted to make contact with The Concordance. I think he's probably started trying to make his own creations by now- especially after having seen the 'wonders' of the amalgama labs that night. Trying his hand to see if he can actually create something new, a sort of stepping stone on the path to the New Dawn. I'd love if he'd be able to have made some sort of gadget or another, but I'm not sure what sort of thing fits. I am also not sure how much more progress he'd have made in researching the Rebis or making contact with The Concordance.

Depending on how those events go will let me know if he'd have completed the Ascetic role- especially if he successfully creates some sort of invention of his own. If I have enough beats from the conditions lapsing, I'll probably get a point in craft to help with that.

I think Mark 5 would be solidly placed on his Cobalus path by now. Due to the combination of his old Path (Ferrum), his condition (Guilty) that partly played a role into picking up Cobalus, and him resolving that, I imagine he's a Confessor with Phobos as his Mesmerism and Suffering for his Contamination.
This places Mark 5 safely out of his comfort and safe zone, as interaction isn't his strongest suit.
He'd be coming back to see if he could find Earth again, and a new Aspiration would be to have Earth open up to him and tell him a secret or confess something else that makes her feel bad.
Also, he'd be coming to see if he could find more clues on Mudbreaker, his creator. What do you think?

                            • Okay, with a big timeskip like this, I'm gonna run with an idea I mentioned in the thread way back.

Earth had a really sucky 2017. Following the Role of the Hermit, they left the city and went north into the wilderness to get their head straight, alone. They visited some of the places where Earth-Dies-Screaming caused a lot of damage, which combined with that Watched condition caused some real trouble. They were tracked down by some very angry humans who knew about the destruction and misery the Centimanus had caused, and captured in Ontario. This turned out to be super bad, because the humans were connected to a cult, and just barely clued-in enough about the supernatural to be dangerous.

Earth spent months chained up in a survivalist compound, and as Tammuz do, they were put to work. Manual labor, farming food and drug-ready poppies, mechanical repair. Unsuccessful attempts to power their generator with Electrification, despite Earth's furious protests that it "doesn't work that way." The compound was built around some kind of strange relic that sapped their Pyros and interfered with their Vivid Dreams. Eventually, they sunk into Torment and stopped trying to talk.

Earth learned bits and pieces of their lore. They called themselves the True Temple of Silence. A bunch of angry lonely men and boys wearing trucker caps and amulets, selling poppies and firearms and waiting for the Sothic Turn, whatever that meant. They talked about an ancient civilization in North America, great magical monuments aligned with the stars, an end to death, the sky-filling Whale Bone Woman and the cyclical return of her earthly avatar. There had been some kind of dispute among the cult in past years, and this faction (the true believers, of course) had stolen a relic and established this compound in exile, waiting obediently for their lord to return when the stars aligned.

Disquiet and the Wasteland set in. The crops Earth tended were ruined by mudslides and endless black rain. The Temple muttered about their servant, then shouted. Driven by mad urges, they tried to harvest Pyros and Vitriol to resurrect their master, despite having little talent for alchemy. In the darkness of their Babylonian Captivity, Earth thought many times about giving up and descending into Stannum, becoming an Outcast and joining with the humans, or stepping off the path again altogether. Maybe if they had gotten over themself and joined a proper Branded Throng, things would be different. But, driven by the hope of being known to the Principle and the memory of being part of a community in Winnipeg, they stubbornly carried on in Cuprum. That's that Elpis of Faith in action!

Then one night, Earth saw the butterflies again. The next day, the wretched Wasteland boiled over, and the Temple was consumed by a Firestorm. Earth escaped.

After that, they spent some time in the wilderness, taking animal shapes with Metamorphosis. They spent some time in the small towns of Ontario, exchanging a few words every week with humans again. Migrated south to Toronto for the coldest months of winter, learned some new human words. Took rock drumming lessons after answering a flyer in a coffee shop, until Disquiet ruined it.

Now they've headed back to Winnipeg. They had a vision telling them the Hermit's path would lead them back to the Ramble. The prophet has spent enough time in the wilderness.
