  • Ursula K. Le Guin has passed away.

Le Guin, the master of science fiction and fantasy who authored some of my favorite stories, such as the Earthsea series, The Lathe of Heaven, and "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas," has passed away at age eighty-eight. Farewell, I will miss you.

    Damn.

Not much else I can add. Can't say I liked everything she wrote, but she earned her place in the pantheon of the great ones long ago

One thing she wrote that I forgot to mention and definitely deserves mentioning is her essay "From Elfland to Poughkeepsie." It's one of the best essays about fantasy I've ever read. Anyone who wants to study or write fantasy fiction needs to read it.

I love her book of essays "The Language of Night." Sometime I've got to get that in hardback. I'm rereading the Hainish novels in the Library of America edition.
