  • My feeling on Garth Ennis.

I do not like him.like yeah I agree with some of his criticism of The military industrial complex, Toxic masculinity, and stuff, but then you have a lot of nasty Gorn, and shit like Kyle Rayner (Green lantern) getting raped as a joke because Garth Ennis hates superheros, to get through if you want and Almost all Superheros are Perverse rapist posers that don’t actually fight crime, get sexually assaulted, or are mentally disabled,

like he really hates Superheros and portrays them in the worst way possible, expect for Superman, he likes Superman,

their are some good points in his work, but only if you are able to stomach a lot of garbage.

I agree, also his anti religion opinion are too extreme for me.

I know, the same thing with Warren Ellis, where in Supergod a character literally monologues about how religion is literally a disease of the mind.

Garth ennis also has a hate boner for Superheros

The irony is when I complain about what bothers me about Garth Ennis writing, people think I’m the prude, but the fact is he’s the one with the weird hangup about queer sex being the ultimate humiliation imaginable for a villain. I’m just so tired of it.

(edited because I conflated him with Mark Millar for a second)

Garth Ennis wrote 'The boys' where the captain America expy is a fuckup who is a coward and constantly shits his pants. And basically bashes it as 'borderline offensive'. When he was, you know, kinda well-liked by soldiers.

And oh yeah, let's not forget how his trenchcoat wearing hard-men making hard decisions and gun-toting military would totally stomp superman and co.

As a note, if Garth Ennis were here, this would be considered a group attack.

In my opinion, Garth Ennis' works take a look at the thin line between commentary through satire and exploitation meant to titilate and wipe their bums with it before blowing their noses on it.

I think he's one of the greatest comic book writers in history.

His runs on Hitman, Demon, The Boys, Preacher, Punisher(ALL of it, I mean "Slavers" was FUCKING CHILLING) are all legendary.

Was some of his work better left in the 90s for some people? Sure.

But to me, his stuff still stands the test of time.

And I don't go to Ennis when I want superhero work. I go to Busiek, or Cates, or Rucka, or Johns, or 100 other good writers. Just like I wouldn't read anything by Morrison if I didn't take a few...drugs.

Shit didn’t he wrote a scene Implying Kyle Rayner got raped?

Also there’s this scene in the Pro where the prostiute superhero rants about how the real hero’s are people willing to bomb hospitals if the bad guys are in them

I'm going to close this thread now as it's nothing but one long insult train on Garth Ennis. Speaking as a religious person, I'm not one of GE's biggest fans but that much negativity isn't the purpose of the forum.
