Beyond that "propose a better system." is a cop out, an unfair question, besides the point and a disservice to the discussion. I agree with Second Chances. We're hurtling towards extinction while some people that are not the direct beneficiaries of the current system are going. "Whoa now hold on." People don't need to be experts in socio-economic and political history or theory to see what's happened and happening and go, "This is fucked."
It obviously isn't why all the time. But the majority of the time, when people ask questions like that. They're just trying to quiet someone up.
At this point, it's not even a matter of political persuasion anymore. Our current dominant systems ARE killing us. And it's not something where you can just hide from it for a time. People can label me a labour loving pinko for all I care but it's not a matter of when capitalism is ending(or we end with it) but when and what replaces it.Last edited by TyrannicalRabbit; 04-04-2019, 12:38 AM.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” noun: empathy the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Also, what TR said. Also also, this is the exact type of response that I was saying frustrated me in my first post, so unless your goal is to frustrate me more (which is very against the spirit of the thread), please just don't right now.

And for the record, I also think that democratic socialism has its advantages. Like aformentioned "strong enough government to keep the corporations in check." In my ideal world, we'd be able to flip between socialism and capitalism depending on what the country (and the world) need at the time. But such a dynamic system to would also have lots of places where the gears could get jammed and it would actually require people to be able to think about the big picture, which is exceedingly difficult for anyone (myself included) to do.
Sigh... politics, economics, and policy are extremely complicated and we are limited by both ideology and biology. I just want us to find a third option before we extinguish the only know example of the universe being sentient and self-aware. We are beautiful and complex, so full of hope and light. I want us to still be here in a thousand years.

Pretty self-explanatory, really. Fuck the practice of gatekeeping medical services from people who need them, and fuck institutionalized predjudice against disabled people.
