Maybe the movie should have cast a Japanese actress and used CG to make her look like ScarJo, then. As it stands, with how it was produced, that claim is so much mouth noise.

    • On that note, the New Mutants movie.

      • I haven't seen it yet, but is that just a segue into it being disappointing (something I've heard a lot of) or a casting issue (something I hadn't heard); especially since by Hollywood standards the casting is pretty much on point (Wolfsbane is White played by a White actor, Magik is White played by a White actor, Cannonball is White played by a White actor, Mirage is Native American played and a Native American actor, Sunspot is Brazilian played by a Brazilian actor).

Trying to have it both ways is what kills the movie. You can have the Major's body be European. Manga!Major's ethnicity is never specified, her body has no relation to the original, and she mentions having a preference for caucasian bodies. Major is a full body cyborg, so long as you make it clear that the character is Major Kusanagi - you can have anyone playing her, any sex, any ethnicity. If you want specifically ScarJo as your lead actress - just commit to it. It's well within the author's rights to do it, even in the context of an adaptation.

Taking the cowardly way out is both the loss of artistic integrity, and is bad writing.

Oh, so we want to bring the manga into this? It matters as a source in this shot for shot remake of the 1995 animated feature, only with live action and all of its story jumbled up to hell and back?

Considering the vastly changed plot - it's an adaptation, not a shot for shot recreation. So yes, all source material is relevant. They significantly draw from the Stand Alone Complex too.

Yet, Aramaki's car is suspiciously not blown up by Batou as a prank.

Edit: Also, public callour and any other way a bunch of people get together to insult, demean and otherwise humiliate someone. I absolutely cannot accept that.

If only more people would take such a stand. Eye for an Eye leaves everyone blind.

What if they did what the original Dracula did, & have a Japanese cast use a specific set, then allow the American cast use it latter in the day? (Or vice versa, of course.)

Dracula had an American & Mexican cast swap use of the sets, allowing 2 versions of the same movie to be made.

It's fun watching both (particularly to see how different actors portray the same character) & you could use it to sell all sorts of DVD editions!

                          TAKE MY MONEY!

This shit should never have started, and frankly the U.S. should be facing sanctions for it.
