  • Impermanent bans

It's come to my attention that the forum software is or was somewhat limited, in that it can't actually ban an account permanently. I have seen at least one case in which somebody that was given such a ban was able to resume posting without having made a successful appeal, leading to their ban being renewed.

I believe that it's possible that there may be other people in a similar situation.

Is it appropriate or desired to bring such cases to the attention of the moderators, so that they can judge whether or not a person resuming their account is permissible?

I have approximate knowledge of many things.

We're not going to hold it against anyone who returned to posting on the belief that their ban has been lifted it's distinct from the zero tolerance policy toward circumventing a ban via sockpuppet accounts, however they still need to appeal through the proper channels.
