What are the proper channels for appealing a ban?

I know someone who received a ban a while ago, and would like to go through the appeal process to rejoin the forum. However, he doesn't know what the proper channel for appealing to being un-banned is, and cannot post here to ask. I've looked around the site and I can't find it either. Could someone tell me what the process is?
