Why is this forum insecure? All user names and passwords can theoretically be eavesdropped?

Why this choice to host an insecure website/forum?

edit: I realized posing only questions might sound a bit aggressive. Apologies. Did not mean it that way. Kind regards.

Because the forum is already broken, and last time I tried activating https, it broke site functionality enough that the forums were unusable.

Is it currently not in the budget to switch to a different forum host?

We're virtually the only RPG company that still has forums. If we shut these down, it's more likely we'd direct people to an alternative like Discord than to replace them with different forum software.

Like the currently existing official OPP Discord server?

That makes more apreciative of the effort you are investing in it. Thanks for clarifying

Steve Jackson Games has forums with a thriving community. It's definitely not a waste to have forum communities, especially considering that some people (like me) absolutely do not want to use Facebook. And I don't even know what Discord is, let alone how to use it. A forum is a good way to maintain a community.

I am extremely literal-minded and always write very literally. If I don't say something explicitly, please never assume I implied it. The only exception is if I try to joke.

If Onyx Path thought forums were a waste, they'd have shut this one down already. They just don't think the forums add enough value to justify the cost and work to fix all the problems this software has. There's a lot of reasons I prefer forums for discussing stuff, but most of the time there are as many active users here as there are on the official Onyx Path Discord server (which is a lot easier on Onyx Path in terms of running that then maintaining this), so forums are a way to maintain a community, but it's harder to argue that it's the best way for Onyx Path to maintain their community than you might think.

If you want to start a thread on different options - probably best in a broader sense than trying to convince Ian to change his mind about this - it's probably best to jump over to the Off Topic forum than keep at it here.

I, for one, would pay money to get these forums fixed. I would contribute to a Kickstarter or, preferably, Indigogo, for it.

                      I am not joking.

I do NOT want to use Facebook or Discord. They are horrible for this type of communications.

I love specific threads to talk about specific topics. Not sprawling, limited threads that are a nightmare to backtrack in (Discord).

I want this Forum to stay & thrive, & I will put my $$$ where my mouth is, like I have with Whitewolf/Onyx Path project & product I have cared about in the past.

I would support this voice - this forum is very dear to me. But with more and more moderation policy of CTPhillips, I feel that community is trimmed too much here.

I run fan Discords and FB groups myself - but I really would miss the forum.

( With some CTPhiliips moves in last year time - more and more less I would miss forums, sadly... )

I in general see a lot of value in having the forums- while Discord is nice for some "real time interaction" with people, if I want to detail my thoughts about a game or present some homebrew, I prefer to use this format as it allows a long time exposure and does not easily get lost within countless other messages or subjects. So yeah, I would also support having a stable forum community (including putting some money for if they'll crowdfund it).
