"Madam, I challenge you to a duel."

What's the Code Duello like in the different parts of Creation?

How long has dueling been illegal in the 7th Legion?

Is there anywhere in Creation wherein the default assumption when you instigate a duel is "with broadswords, like civilized folk"?

Is there, in any of the three editions, a martial arts style that focuses on long, thrusting swords?

Areas I'm mostly concerned with for this, in order of importance.

    1. Universal or near-universal dueling conventions in Creation (if applicable) (other than the stuff in Scroll of the Monk, I know all that).

    2. The Blessed Isle

    3. Lookshy (before it was BANNED UNJUSTLY)

    4. The rest of the Scavenger Lands.

    5. The rest of the East.

    6. The Haslanti League

    7. The Bull's vassal-states

    8. The West.

    9. The rest of the North.

    10. The South.

I don't know much about the topic of duels, but I like to imagine that in some parts of the south, the flame piece is the traditional dueling weapon.

As for martial arts styles and their favoured weapons, I find this list very handy (2/2.5E).

IIRC the Delzahn have an honor-dueling tradition performed with knives. The Chiaroscuro Delzahn (men and women) are described as quick to anger and easily slighted, but duels are typically to first blood and no further. Though there are the occasional...accidents.

But look, Creation is a big place and has hundreds of regionally-specific cultures with their own rules and codes of behavior. You can have any dueling conventions you want. Just make up the town/city-state/empire that has them. But those things will not hold beyond that place's borders because other places will have their own very different cultures and their own very different rules. The closest thing to a Creation-wide culture is the Empire, but even that cannot impose its norms of conduct much beyond its own boundaries. Just look at all the Threshold satrapies which are colonially subject to the Realm but culturally-defined by the local people and institutions. Look at the Dreaming Sea or the far North or the Scavenger Lands where even the Realm's influence ends. There are no universal rules. Embrace the awesome diversity of the setting - it's a great thing.

Probably since it dug in at the ruins of Deheleshen. It might have waited until the Realm started invading, but that's the absolute latest date that I can see it happening in the absence of a canonical answer.

There is totally some nation in Creation where they use an ancient children's card game to resolve arguments.

In my homebrewed region, a smallish continent called Lahat in the Northwest corner of the map, the Dueling and trial by Combat or ritualized Ordeals has evolved with society so that Lawyers are expected to be martial artists, and the Position of Barrister is the equivalent of master martial artist can be hired as champions for Duels or various trials by combat. Dojofirms are schools training in specific styles and they often hire retired military heroes, and even assassins to train up and coming Barristers.

100% stealing this for another setting.

Lore checks! This is a perfect opportunity for a PC Lore check in the middle of the game. Dueling codes are one of those things you can quickly establish to your favor in one encounter, only for the ST to turn it around and play it against you in a later scene (all in the name of consistency, of course!)

Of all of Lore's many, many weapons, the double-edged ones are the most fun. One of these days I'm going to get to play a Dawn with Lore 3 (Martial Traditions +1), one of these days...

I can't remember where it was (maybe Scroll of the Monk?) but there's an arena in the south that is run by the god Kokage, master of duels.

There was a custom martial arts style for fancy rapier/smallsword duelling somewhere that I think was called Graceful Hummingbird.

I'm pretty sure in Scavenger Sons duelling was mentioned as being an important cultural institution in Calin.

Wasn't Graceful Hummingbird one of JiveX's styles?

If I recall correctly, duelists in Chiaroscuro had many different options to pick from for duels, not just swords and firewands.

                              That's right, it's time for a yo-yo duel!
