  • -Do you use this ability before rolling attack or damage?
Unless otherwise specified, you'd declare them before the attack roll.

-Since it says convert up (Strength) dice of post soak or convert (Strength or Essence lower) of raw damage to successes, when do these conversions take place, before rolling damage or after? So for example if your post soak withering damage is 6 on a withering attack and your Strength is 3, do you convert the 3 into successes before you roll leaving you to only roll the remaining 3 or do you roll all 6 and choose which 3 to convert (obviously only converting the failures).
The dice are converted to succeses before the damage roll.

-These converted automatic successes still follow the Charm Limitation rule, right?
No, converting dice to successes doesn't count as adding Charm dice unless otherwise specified. In theory, if you convert a Charm die to a success, it'd still count towards the dice limit, but most of the time you'll have non-Charm dice to convert before you'd need to convert Charm dice.

It only benefits the character who used it.

In the case of the latter, will the Crippling effect when used on spirits stack from different marks?
      No.

          • Just how big of a deal is Assassination in the Realm? Can the Houses just kill someone, knowing that no-one will ask questions, or is assassination something that would be reserved as an emergency measure after all else fails? Or is it in the middle somewhere? Is it more common now because the Magistrates have lost power?

How much should the average Dynast worry about being assassinated in the Realm? Can a Dynast travel around the Blessed Isle without needing to worry about “accidents” if they set foot into the wrong House’s territory or is each House fortifying their holdings too much to allow outsiders inside?

Are there places on the Blessed Isle other than the Imperial City where several Houses have significant holdings? Like a small city where 3 to 5 different Houses each own a nice manse/mansion.

Both Protean and Totemic Charms tap into the mythological and symbolic resonance of animals, but at their core, they're still Lunar Charms, not animal superpowers.

So would a Charm that causes targets to fall down and/or end up KO'd at a touch be possible, with Protean and Totemic tags for electric fish?

"I touch you and you fall down/fall unconscious" doesn't feel like a Lunar Charm, but there's nothing in principle stopping a Protean or Totemic CHarm from keying off of bioelectrogenesis.

Murder is illegal no matter who commits it. You can avoid getting caught or pull strings with the Imperial judge trying your case, but the ability to murder is not a Dynastic prerogative. Assassination still happens, but carefully and judiciously, not as a first option.

It's more common with the Empress gone and the magistracy diminished, but it still isn't casual.

What is an "average" Dynast? A typical legionary or Imperial Navy officer has little to worry about; a typical Thousand Scales bureaucrat has at least some small risk of being targeted by an ambitious underling.

As the Realm slides toward civil war, assassination will doubtless be on the rise, both as a preliminary to military action and as the breakdown of law makes it easier to pursue personal grudges. But at what point and to what extent that takes hold is a matter for the Storyteller.

There are many such places, especially major cities and resort areas.

                      • If a Solar kills a ghost with Ghost-Eating Technique, does the ghost go into Lethe or are they utterly destroyed, like a god would be?

It does say the spirit is destroyed, but I remember that in 2nd ed there was a side-bar in Abyssals that said Ghost-Eating Technique forced ghosts into Lethe, while the Abyssal mirror actually destroyed them.

The wording of the Charm doesn't draw any distinction between ghosts and other spirits when it comes to them being destroyed permanently.

                          • You said back in March that Lunars would have ways to get Eclipse charms, but nothing as complex as Divine Mantle.

Is it something that requires you to get a bunch of high-essence charms, or can you just eat a spirit, spend XP, and get its eclipse charms? Or somewhere in the middle (like 1 essence 2 charm lets you gain Eclipse charms from spirits when you'd be able to get a form from a mortal, or something like that)?

Sort of in the middle. You will need the right Charms to devour the Eclipse Charms of your godly prey, but it doesn't require a massive investment.
