If you want to know about it, we squee through the whole thing like self-control-impaired children at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory on the new episode of The Deliberative.

<whispers> The episode is actually live right now if you go and look...

Chimera Soul Expression is right up front and ready.

Changing Face Transformation, somewhere down the line from Hybrid Body Transformation, allows you to set a different allocation for your Attribute dots for some transformation; multiple purchases for multiple configurations. Reminds me of Tony Tony Chopper, or Bruce Banner exchanging his intelligence for the Hulk's physical power.

There's a Charm to use Strength instead of Dexterity for attack pools, and another to use your Stamina instead of Dexterity for your Parry value calculation.

You can pull out your hairs, quills, stingers, presumably fangs, and use them as arrows, which can grow barbs and wings.

Behemoth's Inhalation Prana lets you suck up all fog, smoke, or poison miasma, which you can then blow into an enemy's face. Wonder if it works with fire?

Beast Mind Metanoia defeats social influence by changing your mind to an animal's. Sounds like Second Edition's Labyrinth of the Beast, but probably not as weak.

Under the Wits Attribute is a Charm branch called Animal Kin, for familiars. One adds mutations to the familiar. Lots of team work stuff, like letting your familiar counterattack for you. Also, the Miniature Giant Space-Hamster Charm, that lets you turn a kaijuu into your personal Head Pet, if you're regretting evolving your Dratini into a Dragonite.

You can grow a Greater Hearthstone in your body, and another that lets you slot Hearthstones from any source into your body.

Mighty Ram Smash, a bit like Heaven Thunder Hammer, but you can't aim them skyward. You need the following Fatal Stryx Flight for that. Swooping Hybroc Death Strike lets you jump up after them and volleyball spike them back down.

Bash through scenery, like a building.

Change your inner shape so that you are immovable, but you become heavy enough to sink into mud or snap the tight-rope you're standing on.

Each Attribute has a Heart's Blood Charm that allows you to gain a form in a new way. Strength lets you challenge someone to a wrestling match or a footrace, and if they honestly try and fail to beat you, you gain their Heart's Blood without killing them.

Posting this now, continuing to listen.

Pedantic note: the stingers of hymenopteran insects like wasps and bees are modified ovipositors. You're going to need female plumbing for that... (^VVVVVVV^)

Edit: Also, there seems to be a fair measure of Attribute switching about, so Dexterity is going to be less essential. It's like that brutal strike merit from 2e, except balanced.

(The Deadly Hugbear seems like it might leap from Werewolf to Exalted again!)

It seems Deadly Beastman Transformation completely shuts down Evocations, at present. EDIT: This is false.

Lunars currently don't need a special Charm or Knack or merit to steal human forms.

Charms are printed in alphabetical order in regards to Attributes, which means you start with Appearance, which is apparently awesome.

One of the playtesters complains that the Charms are no longer grouped by Physical, Social, and Mental categories.

Instead of the Fury and Gift keywords and mechanics of Second Edition, a number of Charms now have Special Activation Rules like those for Martial Arts Charms, that help you activate certain Charms when you do certain things, like assume Deadly Beastman Transformation or -- I assume -- enter a berserker rage.

"Most times you can't use Charms when you're in an animal shape"? EDIT: This is false. Unless they have the Protean keyword are thus compatible?

Totemic Charms are like the Merged Charms of the previous Edition, but with more stringent and specific limitations. Wasp and Termite Dance is a "pretty big" Appearance Charm that Lunars with "hive-dwelling" spirit shapes can learn as a Charisma Charm following after Guiding the Flock.

The Charisma Heart's Blood Charm allows you to bind someone with an oath like an Eclipse; you gain their form if they break it. Sounds manipulative, since you'd be trying to get them to swear oaths they can't keep.

Vance corrected something on the Evocations front. It just knocks them down a notch in DBT. They misread it because they just got the doc in the last 24 hours. They're doing a deeper dive into it next week with more people making characters. Send them your questions and what you want them to look into.

Did they also misread or misrepresent that "can't use Charms in animal forms" thing?

I'm not panicking, just curious. If something that surprising is true, then there must be a good reason.

Cool. I can't listen now, so your summary is helpful Sunder, thanks.

                  Hmmmm….

This is not my favourite way of getting information about Lunar mechanics. I don't gel with podcasts in general, and this feels so disjointed and fragmentary; third-hand accounts and listening through keyholes. I would greatly prefer something more direct and organised.

However, it's apparent that this is going to become part of the discourse now, so the options are extricate myself from Lunar discussions entirely until such time as the book starts getting previewed specifically, or just knuckle down.

This playtest happened at a convention, yes? I presume that such a setting precluded signing non-disclosure agreements?

I got a PM about this, it's kosher and not a repeat of the great playtest leak.

When I read the title I was already in "poor Dev Team getting leaked again"-mode, really glad to hear that it's not the case. Gonna listen to the podcast now.

Vance gave the document to the podcasters and told them what they could and could not talk about. It's all good.

                        Loved the episode, btw.

Given how badly not letting lunars in animal forms use most of their charms would nutshot their viability, I'm gonna assume that was a misread too.

                          I mean, that includes excellencies.

Yes, a lot of this sounds neat.

I know what the Pokémon are, but I don't fully understand this sentence.

                            That has two interesting implications.

One is that there are stronger incentives for Lunars to acquire human shapes through murder because it's the default, and readily available to them.

The other is that it's not really as much of a waste to avoid acquiring shapes in that manner, because you didn't have to buy the means to do so.

I wonder if the logic is kind of... you hold somebody to their word on what they'll do or how they'll conduct themselves, and if they fail, you become empowered to assume their place and do it properly.

Yeah, I'm guessing we're missing something. We could either ring up Vance or just wait until they're done with the next episode, that appears to be a deeper look into the playtest.

Well, it's LITERALLY Pokémon: you shrink you Tyrant lyzard to pocket size, until you need him to go all chompy again.

Yeah, I would have expected the inverse actually: you swear a deal, and get to use their shape as long as you keep your end. But maybe that's too Fae-like.
