  • Lunar charms released so far

I put the charms that have been released so far into a document, in order, so I thought I might as well post it for you all to have.

I realised that I probably shouldn't post up the charms in Eska's write-up though, as lots of people probably didn't buy that pdf, so I didn't include them.

    Stalking Nightmare Hunter
    Cost: 10m, 1wp; Mins: Strength 4, Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: One dream
    Prerequisite Charms: Terrifying Predator Consumption
Once the Lunar has marked her quarry, he may flee to the ends of Creation yet still never be free of her. In his dreams, she is there, lurking in the places he dares not look or pursuing him with monstrous inevitability. Upon using this Charm, the Lunar chooses a human with a Major or Defining Tie of fear towards her or one of her shapes that she has either damaged with a decisive attack or successfully threatened within the last week. The next time that character sleeps, she hunts him through his dreams in whatever of her forms terrifies him the most, rolling (Strength + combat Ability) against his Resolve, taking his form on a success. Successfully claiming a character’s shape in a dream-hunt prevents him from regaining Willpower from that night’s sleep.
This Charm can’t be used against the same character more than once per story.

    Flowing Body Evasion
    Cost: 5m (+1wp); Mins: Dexterity 5, Essence 3
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Perilous, Uniform
    Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Sensing the Deadly Flow
In the moment that she is attacked, the Lunar’s body becomes fluid and malleable. Her flesh yields to the passage of blades and arrows without suffering injury, can compress itself to take shelter between even the tiniest gaps between falling boulders, and can seep through pools of acid or lava unharmed. She may dodge even an undodgeable attack as long as she is aware of it. If the attack roll beats her Evasion, she may pay one Willpower to subtract successes equal to her Evasion (against that attack) from the damage roll. As long as the Lunar takes no damage from the attack, she is considered to have successfully dodged it.
Alternatively, the Lunar may use this Charm, paying its Willpower surcharge, to perfectly dodge a source of uncountable damage. If the damage is recurring, the Willpower surcharge is waived on subsequent rounds in the same scene.

    Swift Killer Style
    Cost: 3m, 2i; Mins: Dexterity 3, Essence 2
    Type: Supplemental
    Keywords: Perilous, Protean, Uniform
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Predator Grace Technique
The Lunar is a frenetic blur of violence, letting the momentum of her blows impel her across the battlefield. To use this Charm, she must move into close range with an enemy and attack him on the same turn. If the attack succeeds, she may reflexively move one range band in any direction, vertically or horizontally. This doesn’t count as her movement for the turn.
Protean: In animal shapes capable of flight, the Lunar may instead ascend two range bands upward. In aquatic animal shapes, she may instead descend two range bands down into a body of water.

    Steel Paw Style
    Cost: —; Mins: Stamina 2, Essence 1
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisite Charms: None
Standing firm as she interposes her weapon between herself and the world, the Lunar becomes an unshakable aegis. When she blocks an attack using a medium or heavy weapon, an unarmed attack, or a natural weapon, she may use Stamina in place of Dexterity to calculate her Parry.

    Adder Fang Method
    Cost: 3m; Mins: Stamina 3, Essence 1
    Type: Supplemental
    Keywords: Decisive-only, Protean, Totemic (Wits)
    Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Scorpion and Toad Absolution
The Lunar reshapes her anatomy to create toxic skin glands or venom ducts, lacing her attack with deadly potency. She envenoms a decisive attack with a poison that has Damage 2i/round (B in Crash), Duration (Stamina) rounds, and a –2 penalty. Alternatively, the Lunar may substitute the poison or venom of any animal form she possesses. Normally, this can only enhance unarmed or other natural attacks, but the Lunar may envenom a weapon with a suitable stunt.
Protean: In animal shapes that are venomous or poisonous, this Charm may instead increase the duration of a single dose by (Essence).
Totemic: A Lunar whose spirit shape is venomous or poisonous may learn this as a Wits Charm.

    Blood-and-Tear Elixir Cultivation
    Cost: 5m; Mins: Stamina 3, Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Totemic (Intelligence)
    Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Scorpion and Toad Absolution
Redirecting her internal processes, the Lunar distills efficacious medicines and antivenins from her body. She produces a single dose of medicine, which counts as exceptional equipment (Exalted, p. 580) to treat a specific malady. Additionally, if the Lunar or her Solar mate uses the medication to make a Medicine roll in the same scene she used this Charm, they reroll (Essence) 1s. If the disease or poison being treated is one the Lunar has suffered, they reroll 1s until they cease to appear instead.
Totemic: A Lunar whose spirit shape is venomous or poisonous may learn this as an Intelligence Charm, with Night’s Mercy Panacea as a prerequisite.

    Herd-Reinforcement Stance
    Cost: 4m (+1wp); Mins: Charisma 4, Essence 2
    Type: Supplemental
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Herd-Strengthening Invocation
The Lunar embodies the archetypal Other, set apart from society yet defining it through her presence. When she makes an influence roll whose targets all belong to the same culture, she treats each target as having a Minor Principle reflecting one of that culture’s customs. Not only can this penalize their Resolve, but it can also be leveraged when using an instill roll to strengthen an existing Intimacy, when using a persuade roll to determine what level of task targets will perform, or similar purposes. The Lunar must be aware of the custom she invokes, letting her either appeal to it overtly or subtly phrase her arguments to prey on it.
If the Lunar has a Defining Tie towards the society whose custom she invokes, she may pay an additional Willpower to instead treat the custom as a Major Principle. Outcasts, dissidents, or any culture members whose personal Intimacies conflict with the custom still only treat it as Minor.

    Taboo-Enforcing Beast
    Cost: 3m, 1wp; Mins: Charisma 4, Essence 3
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Protean
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Herd-Reinforcement Stance
Speaking harshly against those who would transgress the sacred traditions and mores she’s sworn to uphold, the Lunar deters those who would violate them. When she is aware a member of a culture she has a positive Major or Defining Tie towards attempt to do something that would violate one of the culture’s customs, she can reflexively make a special (Charisma + [Presence or Socialize]) persuade roll against him. If she succeeds, he must enter a Decision Point, calling upon an Intimacy whose intensity is greater than or equal to that of his own Tie to that culture and spend one Willpower in order to proceed with that action. If he doesn’t, he must abandon the attempt, and can’t retry it for the rest of the scene.
This Charm can only be used once per scene.
Once per story, when the Lunar uses this Charm to reinforce a custom of a society ruled by her Solar mate, she may force her target into a Decision Point without needing to make an influence roll.
Protean: In a human shape that holds a position of authority within the culture, or an animal shape that is attributed special significance by the culture, the Lunar adds (Essence) automatic successes on the roll. In animal shapes, she ignores the Resolve bonus for employing body language.

    Shining Moon-Child Mark
    Cost: 2m; Mins: Charisma 3, Essence 2
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Stackable
    Duration: Indefinite
    Prerequisite Charms: Guiding the Flock
The Lunar lays her sign upon a beloved companion or hated foe, marking them with the touch of monstrosity and divinity. After placing a visible mark on a character she has a Tie toward — such as war paint, a tattoo, a ceremonial diadem, or a crippling injury — all who see the mark recognize it a sign left by a powerful supernatural force, and are aware of the emotional context of the Lunar’s Tie. This Charm’s cost is waived if the Lunar uses it on her Solar mate.
Characters with Resolve lower than the Lunar’s Charisma are treated as having a Minor Tie towards the marked character with an emotional context that’s either identical to that of the Lunar’s Tie or appropriate to the nature of the mark. They will shun someone who has provoked a monster’s wrath, or attempt to placate a divinity’s trusted envoy.
This Charm ends if the Lunar fully erodes her Tie towards its recipient or if the mark is removed. She may stack multiple activations to mark multiple different characters.

    Uncertain Sky Ambiguity
    Cost: 6m; Mins: Manipulation 3, Essence 1
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Mute
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Tale-Spinning Mastery
There are no certainties in the company of tricksters. The Lunar makes a special (Manipulation + [Presence or Socialize]) instill roll with (higher of Essence or 3) bonus dice, sowing disbelief through implication and innuendo. Success causes her targets to doubt whether a specific fact is true: A traveler waiting to meet a companion might question whether he’s waiting at the correct teahouse; a merchant might second-guess the value of a good; the victim of a pickpocketing might doubt whether he had the stolen item with him all along. This uncertainty can be leveraged with social influence as though it were a Major Intimacy for the rest of the scene.
A character presented with direct evidence that the fact is true may shake off this influence without spending Willpower. Likewise, a character with an Intimacy encompassing belief in the fact the Lunar seeks to cast into doubt may treat the roll as unacceptable influence. A soldier with a Tie of loyalty towards his commander might be made to question whether he heard her orders correctly, but not whether he serves her.

    Heart-Drinking Allure
    Cost: —; Mins: Appearance 3, Essence 1
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisite Charms: None
The Lunar need not shed blood to taste of her lover’s heart. When she performs a sacred hunt to take the shape of a human that has a Major or Defining Tie of love or lust toward her (or her current shape), she may conclude it with a voluntary act of physical intimacy — a passionate embrace, a kiss, sex — instead of killing him.

    Divine Paramour’s Embrace
    Cost: 4m; Mins: Appearance 4, Essence 2
    Type: Supplemental
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Irresistible Silver Spirit
The Lunar watches over those who take her into their hearts, bestowing her strength upon them. When she makes a persuade roll to seduce a single target, that character may opt not to resist, allowing the roll to succeed automatically. A character who does so is comforted and affirmed by the Lunar’s affections; following at least a scene of physical intimacy, the Lunar may transfer up to (his positive Tie towards her + 1) points of her temporary Willpower to him.
Once per story, when the Lunar uses this Charm to benefit her Solar mate, he loses one point of Limit.
An Appearance 5, Essence 3 repurchase of this Charm waives the need to engage in physical Intimacy in order to grant the beneficiary Willpower — the Lunar’s affectionate words alone embolden him. This allows this Charm to be used in combat and similar scenarios.

    Echo-Drinking Awareness
    Cost: 5m, 1wp; Mins: Perception 3, Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Protean
    Duration: One day
    Prerequisite Charms: Heightened Sense Method
The Lunar subtly shifts her vocal chords and inner ears, perceiving the world through ultrasonic vibrations. She is able to “see” everything out to long range through echolocation, visualizing a black-and-white image of everything within that range even in zero visibility. Her echolocation is capable of penetrating through walls and similar obstructions, so long as they aren’t airtight. Characters can still conceal themselves from the Lunar with Stealth, but she adds an automatic success on rolls to detect hidden characters by echolocation.
If the Lunar has Sense-Sharpening Change active enhancing her hearing, its benefits also apply to rolls that would normally be vision-based.
Protean: In animal shapes with the Echolocation Merit, the Lunar instead doubles 9s on all echolocation-based rolls, including Join Battle rolls.

    History-Divining Scent
    Cost: 7m, 1wp; Mins: Perception 4, Essence 3
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Blood on the Wind
The Lunar breathes in the Essence of the world, beckoning forth the scent of the past. She makes a (Perception + [Awareness, Investigation, or Survival]) case scene roll over the course of a few seconds to reconstruct an event that occurred at a location, subtracting successes equal to the number of days since event occurred. This penalty can’t be negated by Sense-Sharpening Change or Heightened Sense Method.
Success allows the Lunar to mentally reconstruct the details of a single scene based on scent, distinguishing the identities of any characters she knows, a general description of any unknown characters, and the movements and emotional states of all characters present in the scene. She generally can’t discern visual or auditory details, such as an unknown character’s appearance or the content of a conversation, although creative stunting may allow her to reconstruct details not normally tied to scent.
Certain conditions increase the interval of time used in determining the penalty applied to her roll. For each applicable condition, the interval increases by one degree: from days, to weeks, to months, to seasons, to years. The conditions are as follows:
    • The Lunar has memorized the scent of a character who was present at the scene with Catching the Prey’s Scent.
    • The Lunar is pursuing an investigation that upholds or protects one of her Defining Intimacies or her Solar mate’s Defining Intimacies.
    • A character the Lunar has a Major or Defining Tie towards was present at the scene. Her Solar mate always counts, including his past incarnations.
    • The Lunar has Essence 5+.
    Omniscient Instinct Concentration
    Cost: —(1wp); Mins: Perception 5, Essence 5
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisite Charms: Grandfather Spider Mastery
Standing at the center of the changing seasons, the Lunar can scent distant strife on the wind, read portents written on the stars, and discern secret wisdom from her dreams. Whenever an event occurs within (Essence x100) miles that threatens or strongly impacts the object of one of the Lunar’s Defining Ties, or her Tie to her Solar mate, she feels a tingle of prescient instinct. She may spend one Willpower to focus her senses on the distant event, receiving a brief description of it as well as the direction and distance to it. Any Survival rolls she makes to navigate her way towards the event’s location double 7s. While Watchful Spider Stance is active, the Lunar can sense events at any range, as long as she is within the same realm of existence.
The Lunar can always sense the death or reincarnation of her Solar mate with this Charm, regardless of range or being in a different realm of existence, and without needing to spend Willpower.

    Memory-Drinking Meditation
    Cost: 1m; Mins: Intelligence 3, Essence 1
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Stackable
    Duration: Indefinite
    Prerequisite Charms: None
The Lunar tastes the minds of her prey through their heart’s blood. When she completes a sacred hunt to take a human’s shape, she takes on one of her target’s Ties to an individual character, gaining it herself at the Minor level. She must be aware of the Tie beforehand, either through a successful read intentions roll or as an inference from observing her target’s behavior.
As long as she is in the target’s shape, she has access to all his memories that relate to the adopted Tie. The Storyteller may choose to reveal specific information related to the victim’s memories to the Lunar when it becomes relevant, and the Lunar may introduce facts (Exalted, p. 237) as though these memories were a relevant Lore background. This Charm ends if the Lunar’s adopted Tie is completely eroded.
The Lunar may stack multiple activations of this Charm to retain the memories of multiple victims, or a single victim’s memories of multiple Ties.

    Blood Geas Binding
    Cost: 10m, 1wp; Mins: Intelligence 3, Essence 1
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Mute
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: None
The Lunar stands witness to the oaths and pacts that bind families and tribes together, a sacred monster empowered to enact awful vengeance on those who forsake their vows. Whenever a human makes a promise to the Lunar, or swears a vow in the Lunar’s presence with the intent that she will be an official witness to it, she may sanctify that oath. Henceforth, if that character breaks his oath, the Lunar is alerted to this fact by a sharp spike of rage, and takes the oath- breaker’s shape as though she had performed a sacred hunt.
This Charm can’t be used to seal oaths made for no purpose other than allowing the oath-giver to easily grant the Lunar his shape by breaking it.
Special activation rules: If the Lunar’s Solar mate uses his anima power to seal an oath while she is present, she waives this Charm’s Willpower cost, and may use it on that oath even if it is not made to her or by her.

    Devil-Pleasing Chiminage
    Cost: 5m, 1wp; Mins: Intelligence 4, Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Ardent Prayers Fulfilled
The Lunar bears secret wisdom of the ways of Heaven and Hell, and knows how best to appease their otherworldly denizens. She makes an (Intelligence + [Lore or Occult]) roll to introduce a fact regarding the existence of something that will make an especially pleasing offering to a spirit or raksha, without needing any specific Lore background. The roll is made against a difficulty of (the entity’s Essence + 2), although the Storyteller may lower this if the Lunar describes an offering that will require notable effort to recover. The offering must be specific and unique — if she attempts to court a river god, she could not introduce a fact that he desires apples, but could declare that the first apple of spring that grows on a specific tree would be efficacious.
Once the Lunar has introduced this fact, she or someone else must still undertake any efforts necessary to secure the offering. It counts as exceptional equipment (Exalted, p. 580) on a bargain roll with that entity made by whoever offers it, and also counts as a Major Intimacy supporting that influence. If the Lunar or the Solar mate conveys the offering, it counts as a Defining Intimacy and also increases the cost to resist by one Willpower. The offering’s benefit can only apply to a single roll.

    Moon-Follows-Sun Assurance
    Cost: —; Mins: Wits 1, Essence 1
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisite Charms: None
The sacred vows that once bound the Lunar and Solar Exalted are reborn, blossoming in the hearts of the Moon’s Chosen. The Lunar’s positive Ties to her Solar mate can’t be weakened or altered by other character’s social influence, except that of her Solar mate. She can still erode them voluntarily.
Once per story, when the Lunar forms or strengthens a positive Tie to her Solar mate, she gains a point of Willpower, which can raise her above her permanent Willpower. Additionally, if her Solar mate forms or strengthens a positive Tie towards her while in her presence, he can also gain this bonus once per story.

    Moon-and-Sun Panoply
    Cost: 10m, 1wp; Mins: Wits 4, Essence 3
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Indefinite
Prerequisite Charms: Moon-Follows-Sun Assurance, Quicksilver Legend Evolution
The Lunars of the First Age took up the arms of their Solar mates in times of need and peril, fighting with blades consecrated by the power of their sacred bond. Now that the Lawgivers are returned, the Chosen of Sun and Moon may have new cause to share their treasures. The Lunar attunes an artifact weapon or armor that her Solar mate is already attuned to without disrupting his attunement, replacing the normal attunement cost with her commitment to this Charm. Both of their bonds to the artifact are rendered inviolable, immune to any effects that would break attunement. If the Lunar’s Solar mate is resonant with the artifact, the Lunar is also treated as being resonant with it for any Evocations she uses that her Solar mate has also awakened.
The first time the Lunar uses this Charm on an artifact, she rolls (Wits + [Craft, Lore, or Occult]) against (artifact’s rating + 2; 10 if N/A). Every two extra successes lets her to awaken an Evocation that her Solar mate has already mastered, gaining it at no experience point cost as long as she meets its prerequisites. If she crafted the artifact for her Solar mate, she may awaken Evocations he has yet to master, granting them both to him and herself if they both qualify.
This Charm’s cost is reduced by the Lunar’s (Intimacy) for her Solar mate.
Moon-and-Sun Panoply may only be used once per story. Using it to attune an artifact that the Lunar has previously used this Charm to draw Evocations forth from does not count against this limit.

    Magpie’s Nest Resourcefulness
    Cost: 3m, 1wp; Mins: Wits 2, Essence 1
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisite Charms: Squirrel’s Cunning Technique
The Lunar has a knack for anticipating exactly what’s needed in any situation she might encounter. Upon using this Charm, she reveals that she’s had a mundane item that could be concealed upon her person all along. She makes a (Wits + Ability) roll at a difficulty of the item’s Resources rating, using an Ability that reflects how she procured the item: for example, Bureaucracy if she bought it while passing through a market, an applicable Craft if she built it over downtime, Larceny if she stole it, and so on. If successful, she produces the item, and it counts as exceptional equipment (Exalted, p. 580) for an applicable task. On a failed roll, she still produces the item, but it is deficient in some way determined by the Storyteller: It might impose a ?1 penalty, fall apart at the end of the scene, or similar.
If the Lunar succeeds on a Craft roll with this Charm, she gains crafting points as though she’d completed a basic project (Exalted, p. 240).
This Charm can only be used once per scene.

I recall that Deadly Beastman will be Strength, but Hybrid Body will have no Attribute.

I did wonder about that, since DBT seems very strength-y (since it gives bonuses like +Strength to certain values, and increases your Strength for Feats of Strength) while HBT does not, particularly. So that works. They can just say it's favoured for everyone I guess.

Ah yes, they said that Hybrid Body Transformation would be Favoured for everybody, didn't they?

I was under the impression that Lunars have some "General" charms that don't have Attribute Prereqs.

That said, because of how the game works, anything that only requires one dot in an attribute is pretty much a general charm anyone can buy, so maybe that's how those work?

The "Universal Charms," which don't require any Attribute, are distinct from Charms that require a minimum Attribute of 1 because they're universally favored by all Lunars. If you don't favor Stamina, you still gotta pay 10xp for your Ox-Bodies.

Will Lunar Ox-Body be particularly different from Solar Ox-Body in terms of how it keys in with Stamina and health levels gained per purchase?

Yes. Each Exalt will typically have their own different Ox-Bodies, even if they all follow the same schema.

The people who do the Deliberative podcast playtested Lunars a bit. They talked about the excellencies. They also mentioned some charms and vaguely what they do, so I've included those in the charm list at the top. But obviously they didn't give the text of those charms, so I've only got the previews for those.

Wonder what kind of hybrids people are going to come up with, using Chimera Soul Expression.

Literally any gender pronoun is fine, don't worry about it in my case.

At least one part of Japan believed that demons entered the world through a gate in the northeast, between the points of the compass attributed to the Ox and the Tiger of the Chinese Zodiac.

This led to one of the most popular interpretations of the oni (ogre, devil) as a figure with the horns of a bull and the fangs and claws of a tiger, wearing tiger skins.

While that devil was humanoid, the Final Fantasy franchise used the inspiration for their “behemoth” species of monster, which is a magical beast built like a giant tiger with the horns and thick hide of a purple bovine.

A Lunar could start with a tiger totem, with fangs as her tell, and choose to become a chimera with horns on her spirit and hybrid shapes.

I intend to combine whatever animals will get me closest to a European Dragon. Cat + Snake + Bat + ??? for the fire, maybe.

Assuming that something draconic isn't valid as a spirit shape in its own right (I'm a bit unclear on how magical beings like fog sharks work with Lunars), wouldn't it be easiest to just take something like a tyrant lizard or river dragon and give it wings?

Especially since chimeras are limited to hybrids of two animals.
