Butterfly totem trickster-mystic, lots of swarm charms and charms focused on themes of metamorphosis, like Sharing Luna's Gifts. Definitely a sorceress, probably a little bit mad, might as well give her Weirdflame. Beautiful, erratic, transcendent, terrifying. Can't decide if she should be Casteless, Changing Moon, or No Moon. Out to punish the "wicked" and reshape the world into something more "beautiful" according to an aesthetic which gets steadily more deranged the more Limit she has.

So some additional thought I've had on my Changing Moon. I remember reading somewhere that some Dynasts have started to hunt slaves dressed like the Scarlet Empress so I could see them putting her through that instead of having her executed or sold into slavery out of a sense of poetic irony and calling it the role of a lifetime.

I'm currently working on a Lunar whose spirit shape isn't a natural animal but instead Gorgon from Arms of the Chosen. The idea is that whatever her normal spirit shape was going to be got eaten when she got stabbed by the sword. Because of this, she's terrified of taking Sacred hunts and has become very lethargic due to the Spirit Shape's influence. Since she was soldier but unwillingly before, she's become very unwilling to raise her sword to causes she doesn't really believe in, but her mentor is Sha'a Oka, who fished her out of the ocean out of her Exaltation and is trying to help her control her spirit shape. While he wants to use her to finish taking the Caul, she's uncertain if she wants to do that and is resisting it and focusing on trying to control her spirit shape so it doesn't break out. I want to play her as full Strength/Stamina/Appearance full moon, with low Wits and Awareness; the idea that she's so lethargic and rather narcoleptic, so she is slow to respond but also almost impossible to hurt.

Since this'll be the first time I've gotten to play a character really starting from 0 in a new game in a long time I'm excited to get the chance to have a character whose working towards managing goals rather then feeling like I'm coming in having to already have some stuff laid out.

I'm unable to locate a source for this at present, but I'm pretty sure it was something the previous editions threw out as an example of Dragon-Blooded depravity. Wherever its from the imagery of a young woman being dressed as the Scarlet Empress and then forced to flee for her life is evocative enough that I'm stealing it for a backstory.

                It sounds familiar, tbh.

                My characters:
Dr Soma Vaidya, viper-totem Lunar and kung-fu doctor
Brother Alazar, Zenith occultist and last survivor of the Black Monastery of Leng
Shadow of Kings, Twilight barbarian scholar, master of lost First Age crafting techniques. Has a lot of clones. Picture by Jen.

I wouldn’t use it as something “Dynasts” do, as in it’s becoming a social past time - but one particular Dynast being the setting’s Ramses Snow seems viable.

I think this whole thing goes back to a line about the Slug character and some party he arranged. And I think it was the 1st edition Wood book. Sorry I remember he is Seuss but can't remember his full name.

                      I can't believe I didn't have this idea before:

A Nexus street rat who was lucky enough to be the reincarnation of a First Age shaman-technician and thus had an instinctive understanding of Artifacts and minor wonders she used to become the leader of the most competent cat burglars in the city, only to be targeted as prime slave-agent material by the Guild; she Exalted and escaped as a white-furred rat, reunited with her gang and made them into ratfolk with a new mission - to spread across Creation and gnaw the Guild's heart out!

If you want to know why I feel ashamed I didn't think of it, I'll give you three hints:

                      1) She likes building bases underground and her standard offered mutation package involves digging claws.

                      2) She's obsessed with tech and mass-produced devices, especially firewands.

                      3) Thanks to Nexus thief's cant, a favorite insult of hers is calling people who are just her marks "things" (as in, "die, Realm-things!").

The punchline is that she's way more like actual rats than her inspiration. Which is to say, one of the few animals scientifically proven to have altruism.

The Slug is a secret patriot, I could see him using a hunt like that to arrange an unfortunate 'accident' for one of his guests.

Turns out its Cynis! I wish I was shocked but they really were a lot of moments in 1st and 2nd edition where they come across as an entire family of Ramsay Boltons.

I'm torn, because I've been thinking a lot lately about the significance of the Scarlet Dynasty as something systemic in which a lot of bad practices pervade and are enabled throughout even if not actively participated in by everyone.

I'm wary of any sentiments that would lean in the direction of "there are good Dynasts and there are bad Dynasts, and the bad ones just happen to have more authority", or even flirt coyly with it from across the room.

But not quite in the manner of expressing discontent with the monarchy by hunting slaves for sport.

I'm kind of reminded of the whole business with police conveniently not having their body cams turned on, not tracking how many people they kill, being encouraged by their own chiefs to erase bad marks off their records, and so on; sure, not every cop is bad, but the system as a whole...

For me it’s the difference between the broader American chattel slave system and Delphine LaLaurie. Both are absolutely evil, but one is a pragmatic system of exploitation for profit, and the other is pure sadism as an emotional outlet at great personal expense. The former wasn’t less evil, but it is a different animal from the latter.
