  • The Jade Candle of Ledaal Towce

Ledaal Towce was a willful young girl, proud of her heritage and difficult to control and teach even before her Exaltation. Taking the Second Breath as a Chosen of Hesiesh only intensified her irrepressible nature.

Hoping to help temper the youth, she was enrolled within the Cloister of Wisdom, with an implicit threat; she would learn control, or she would join the Immaculate Order. Even so, the long lessons in patience and meditation we're slow to take.

In one task did she find both peace and release; the dipping of the candles and forming of incense, used during the ritual prayers. It was in this practice that she saw how to maintain a slow and steady heat for creation, instead of a destructive conflagration.

After graduating, she travelled the Threshold, as many young Dynasts do, and joined a Wild Hunt assembled to put down the Bone Witch, a Lunar Anathema that violated the dead, raising their corpses and binding spirits and hungry ghosts to forge a Dominion of death. The Hunt was successful, but two of the Hunters fell, and Towce was gravely wounded, losing her left eye to the claws of deathless servants.

Upon recovering and returning home, Towce determined to better ready herself against the threats that face Creation. In a massive granite crucible, she heated a talent of white Jade until it ran like wax. With a long wick drawn of orihalcum and moonsilver, she began to dip. The heat was kept constant, day and night, over a century, and each day at dawn and sunset, she would dip this Jade candle once again.

The final Candle is a Jade wrackstaff; when the wick is lit, it dispels illusions, repels the undead, and can spits sticky flames.

4-5 dots...it does too much (and has too much history) to be a 3 dot Artefact.
I'd also argue the moonsilver was taken from the Bone Witch. Gives more credence to both the construction and the effects of the Candle.

Re: Moonsilver - oh that was definitely taken from the Bone Witch.

Re: Dots - Eh, I mean. The actual history of the Jade Candle is fairly short, distinct from Ledaal Towce. I could write it as a 3 dot Artifact; it would just be kinda short and/or not super-OMGWTF.

Like... (and this is very off the cuff)

      The Jade Candle (Artifact •••)
      (White Jade Wrackstaff,
      Attunement: 5m, Type: Medium (+3 ACC, +12 DMG, +1 DEF, OVW 4)
      Tags: Bashing, Melee, Reaching
      Hearthstone Slots: 1
Era: Reign of the Scarlet Empress

When attuned, at the bearer's desire, the wick at the end of the Jade Candle lights with a pure white flame, banishing natural darkness out to Short distance. This flame burns cool and steady in rain and wind, and cannot light other flamable materials.

      Pure White Light
      Cost: 1+m; Mins: Essence 1
      Type: Simple
      Keywords: Dissonant
      Duration: Until next action
      Prerequisites: None

The light of the Jade Candle is a horror to dead and unclean things; spirits and devils of the Underworld are repelled by it. Mindless undead will not willingly come closer than Short range so long as Pure White Light is active. Intelligent undead, or mindless undead commanded to draw closer, suffer a penalty equal to (greater of Essence or 3) to their attacks. Each successive activation of Pure White Light costs an additional mote; 1 mote the first time, then 2 motes, then 3, and so on.

After taking an action other than using Pure White Light, the bearer cannot reactivate this Evocation for the rest of the day.

Dissonant: The penalty undead suffer is (lesser of Essence or 3) instead.

      Flame Burns Away Darkness
      Cost: 3m, 1i; Mins: Essence 1
      Type: Supplemental
      Keywords: Decisive-Only, Resonant
      Duration: Instant
      Prerequisites: Pure White Light

Shadows know many deceits to conceal itself with, but a candle in the dark burns away illusions. Fire Burns Away Darkness may supplement a decisive attack made with the Jade Candle; if the attack deals at least one point of damage, the bearer may make a reflexive Read Intentions roll to learn an intimacy the target has, or a reflexive (Perception + Awareness) roll to pierce a disguise or notice anything else unusual about the target; in both cases, gaining a number of non-charm bonus dice equal to the levels of damage dealt.

Resonant: The bearer gains double-9s on the reflexive Read Intentions or (Perception + Awareness) roll.

      Spitting Sticky Fire
      Cost: 7m; Mins: Essence 2
      Type: Simple
      Keywords: Dual
      Duration: Instant
      Prerequisites: Flame Burns Away Darkness

With a roar, the flame at the end of the Jade Candle suddenly extends, burning hot and fierce as molten globs of waxy jade fly towards the bearer's target.

Spitting Sticky Fire allows the bearer to make attack out to Short range, and treats the attack as being made with the Flaming tag (adding +4 damage instead of the bearer's Strength). If the attack is Decisive, it also reduces the victim's initative on his action, for a number of actions equal to the damage dealt, as the wax continues to burn. Each action the victim spends smothering or dousing the burning wax reduces this duration by 1; doing so is a miscellaneous action that may be included in a flurry.
