  • What would happen if a Solar Exalted fell in love with an Abyssal?

What would the repercussions be? And how would the Solar’s predestined Lunar mate feel about it?

Repercussion? They have to manage a relationship around a death curse and the deathknight's Liege, which varies in difficulty by edition. 2e will probably make it the most difficult because of how extra-dickish Resonance became between 1e and 2e. As for the Lunar mate, assuming the Solar even has one (a given in exactly one edition out of three), that's wide open. It need not be dejection; the Lunar might not actually care very strongly, or on the flipside, might start to wonder about a threesome.

      Depends on a bazillion factors.
What does the Abyssal think of the Solar? What does the Solar think of Abyssals? What does the Abyssal think of Solars? What do the Solar's friends think of the Abyssal? What do the Abyssal's friends think of the Solar? Of Abyssals/Solars in general? What do their friends think of each other? What Tie does the Lunar have to the Solar? What does the Solar think about the Lunar? What about the Abyssal's Lunar mate (or do they even have one)? So on and so forth.

Really, all you've said is "A loves B. B has implied ties to D. D is implied to be EVIL. C has unspecified feelings about A. They all have superpowers."

Is this Moray Darktide falling for one of the Silver Prince's followers? Courtly romance!
Is this Zenith Hatesdark falling for Midnight Hateslight? Social actions!
Is this Nighty Infiltratorpants falling for Dusky Loyalson? Intrigue!
Is this Dawn Von Murderfight falling for Dayton Runningaway? Action and adventure!

And note that, even in 2e, the only edition where a Solar was absolutely guaranteed to have a Lunar mate, the relationship that entails needn't be a sexual or romantic one. A heterosexual female Solar could have a heterosexual female Lunar as her bondmate, and be platonic battle-sisters (or, heck, literal sisters - Exalted likes dramatic cliches like that well enough), and still fall romantically for an Abyssal who's a heterosexual guy. Relationships don't need to be romantic to be intense or the source of good stories, and even 2e, the edition that put the most weight on the Solar-Lunar bond, never denied that.

This is actually the state for my character. We have an NPC abyssal one our party who started off as a one-note antagonist, but instead of killing her we found a way for her to stick around. My Zenith is basically a classic paragon, doing good because it’s worth doing, etc, and that resonated with the Abyssal (she had a tragic backstory about the silver prince). Two story-arcs later, they had an epic and beautiful kiss in Champoor, and have been working things out since. The Abyssal is trying to start over as a new person, but she’s uncomfortable with how much underworld baggage she has to carry, and worries that she might just be a monster pretending to be a person. My Zenith is helping with meditation and encouragement, our Night Caste is teaching her medicine so she can heal as well as hurt (being a one-note tournament character, the abyssal was the most combat-focused member of our team) and it’s an ongoing theme.

Currently, my Zenith’s goal is to learn how to free souls from Soulsteel so she can rescue the Abyssal’s family’s souls from the weapon the silver prince forced her to carry.

@awesome!!! Are both characters female or is the Zenith male?

                    @Penelope

Both are female. My Zenith is a former Immaculate monk who’s been questioning her identity ever since she exalted. She’s been holding to her vows until she feels it’s the right time to break them, so chastity went out the window only when she realized that she really did love the abyssal.

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster because the Neverborn are still whispering in the Abyssal’s ear, and she’s struggling with her own identity (am I just a weapon pretending to be a person?) but it’s a work in progress.

Sticks I love it! That's so romantic.

Are Immaculate Order monks not supposed to have sex?

They do take a vow of celibacy. No marriage, no sex. (Masturbation is allowed)

If they break the vow, they (in theory) get kicked out of the order.

I run... Lunars: The Apocalypse! Exalted 3rd edition. Fimbulwinter is upon the world as an Ice Age begins, and only six young Lunar heroes have a chance of saving humanity.

Are the Sidereals the ones behind the Immaculate Order?

At least in 3e, the Sidereals were involved in shaping the Immaculate Faith when it emerged during the Shogunate, and when the Immaculate Order was founded in the early days of the Scarlet Empress' reign, the Sidereals took a hand in organizing it, and still maintain influence, with a few Sidereals maintaining cover identities as Immaculate Monks. But they aren't the sole manipulators of the Immaculates - Dragon-Blooded are just as important, if not more, to the Order and the Faith as a whole. Dragon-Bloods contributed to the philosophical underpinnings of the Immaculates, founding the Order and building it into a pillar of Realm society was a collaborative effort between the Sidereals and the Scarlet Empress (who seems to have known about the existence and general nature of Sidereals - they weren't pulling any wool over her eyes!), and the upper leadership of the modern-day Order is all Dragon-Blooded, who absolutely have their own motivations and goals, which can conflict with Sidereal ones and not get removed or neutralized out of hand.
