Gaian Fangs : A White Elephant for Reighnhell

Bella sat on her bed as her father regaled her with his latest triumphs, her attention given in full with a smile upon her face. Outside the room and just out of site stood Dahlia watching inside and listening in. It was a tale of heroic wills and personalities vying for the potent artifact some even blessed with the power of the gods themselves. Their words and voice Zatara gave them always put a smile on Bella's face and a laugh to his ears. And in the end he showed her the truth of his tale as he finished pulling his sleeves back as three bone white blades with stylized depiction in Orichalcum of the beast being slain by two great heroes of gold and silver. The hero of silver being a depicted with a minute amount of moonsliver. Each blade holds part of the the tale of the beasts fall. Held by the unending leather that was the creatures, all bolted and secured in Orichalcum plates each one with a hearthstone socket at the back of the hand.

The beast was known as by many names Stalker of the Crimson Leaves, The Beast that Held the Pillars, Towering Beast in the Border, etc. A highly bloodthirsty creature as large as three houses, but a quick as a blur. This Behemoth was the alpha Predator of the already deadly border lands of creation that were lost after the Bolarian Crusade. During the First Age the beast would take the livestock and people of the eastern villages, towns, and cities and devoured them. A creature born from the ferocity of Gaia herself, it had power over the elemental essence causing earthquakes and firestorms in it's wake and could even command elementals and at it's most feral devoured elementals to gain their power.

But the two heroes of ages past cornered the creature and in their battle razed the forest in flame, hail, hurricane, and deadly toxins. So much so that the Lunar Champions sight could not fully count the destruction of the creature. But in the end the two stood triumphant and forged the Stalker's body into two artifacts. One the Gaian Fangs and the other the Five Pillars Stands Triumphant.

    Evocations of Gaian Fang

While attuned to the Gaian Fangs, the wielder subtracts one damage die from environmental hazards based on any of the five elements of Creation; the heat of the desert, chill of the north, and even weight of falling stones are dulled to the one with proof of his mastery over the elements. Even falling damage can be reduced in this fashion. This stacks with other effects that reduce environmental damage.

    Imperial Elemental Gesture
    Cost: —; Mins: Essence 1
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisites: None

The Beast that Held the Pillars possessed both a link to the Five Elemental Poles, and a command over the natural Essence of the world. Its mastery over nature was instinctive, second only to the Elemental Dragons themselves.

The Exalt may make withering and decisive claw attacks with the Gaian Fangs out to short range, manifesting as some lethal expression of the elements. Water might freeze into razor-thin shards that cleave foes; earth might erupt with impaling stalagmites. These elemental manifestations still qualify as razor claw attacks for Martial Arts Charms the Exalt knows

    Wind Raises the Lord

The presence of the Towering Beast in the Border reminds the things of Creation of their ruler, and in awe they will aid she who bears its power. Passively the elements seem to genuflect to please the wielder of Gaian Fangs. Brush and branches will move from pathways, and ground will smooth over under her feet. If she must find a place to rest, the earth will yield up a cave for her. The Exalt gains a non-Charm success on survival rolls for trailblazing and finding supplies or shelter rolls. By spending one mote the Exalt also gains a non-Charm success on athletics or disengage rolls, and may ignore difficult terrain based on one of the elements. If a stunt shows how commanding of the elements assist the user, she also adds a non-Charm die.

    Elemental Lord's Call
    Cost: 8m, 1wp; Mins: Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Psyche, Resonant
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisites: Imperial Elemental Gesture

With a sharp command suffused with the Beast's Essence, the Exalt may make a [(Charisma or Appearance) + Presence]-based roll to inspire submission in an elemental. No Intimacy can boost the elemental's Resolve against this attempt, and it cannot be resisted with a willpower point.

Resonant: The submission inspired by this Evocation is treated as a Defining Intimacy instead.

    Creation Shaking Howl
    Cost: 12, 1wp; Mins: Essence 4
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Resonant
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisites: Elemental Lord's Call

Raising her voice to the sky, the wielder of the Gaian Fangs bends the world to her will. Her primal scream can change the weather itself.
With one use of this Evocation, a minor change takes place over ten minutes; rain turns to drizzle, or snowfall can be exacerbated into a blizzard.
A second use of this Evocation in a scene increases the intensity of the effect, taking place over another five minutes; rain stops, a heat wave breaks, or a minor earthquake could take place.

Using the Evocation for a third time introduces radical changes, taking a mere minute to manifest. Snow could fall during the month of Descending Fire, a volcano's fury can be quelled back into dormancy, or an overcast day can be made to yield a full-fledged thunderstorm. The weather pattern must still be plausible for the area; the Exalt could not make snow fall on Gem during Descending Fire, but she could make it rain.

Using the Evocation for a fourth time in a scene is strenuous on the bindings of the Beast. While the Exalt could potentially cause destructive earthquakes, devastating hail, or even storms of fire that stretch for miles, the wild energies unleashed proves damaging to the razor claws. After a scene in which Creation-Shaking Howl is used four times, the artifact becomes damaged, and its Evocations go dormant until a Superior Repair project is performed.

No Exalt has ever used Creation-Shaking Howl more than four times in a scene. What horrors would necessitate unleashing such fell and damaging power? As such, none knows what would happen to the damaged Fangs; would the strain destroy them utterly, taking the Exalt's hands with them? Would the essence of the Deva escape and reform at the nearest Elemental Pole? Would the devastation wrought cover tens of miles, or stretch to encompass an entire region? None can be sure.

I hope you like it everyone and especially you Reighnhell. If there is any issue that you note with the artifact or evocation please let me know and I'll try to look into it. Also I'd like to thank countalucard with his proofreading and editing, helping this be a better artifact then it was.

    Suitably Epic!

I especially love the mythology behind artifact (which is really my favorite part of any artifact).

    Thanks Again!

Man that dissonance condition, it literally only excludes Liminals! I take offense to that! XD

I love the concept for the artifact. Kinda abusable if a player chooses to minmax it, but lots of fun to be had if the wearer plays nice. I wanna use this to make an Earth Aspect Resonant with the Heaven and Earth Gauntlets.

There once was a beast born of the soul of Gaia. Who was left inside creation as a parting gift to the gods, the exalted, and especially to Luna. It would help defend creation from the fair folk and the wylds. It was closely connected to creation both it's body and it's soul. The creature bones held all things from below the ground and as a result the magic of originally the four magic materials. Which the beast could use in synergy to appear to be nearly invincible to all things.

The Gaian Beast originally stayed largely to the border marches where it could destroy the fair folks and hunted to express it's being. It would rarely be seen by mortals as it stayed in the wild areas. It mostly hunted in the east since the largest and most fierce prey were found there. But one day ventured into a battlefield of the first war and beneath it a new metal formed. It was anathema to it's being, but now a part of it...

After it's destruction by a the pair of Solar and Lunar. The Lunar took the bones of the creature lined in magical materials and due to it's changing and surprisingly complex nature asked for three other great smiths of the age to forge the armor.

    Era: Wondrous Dawn Era

Evocations of The Five Pillars Stand Triumphant.

The nature of the Beast drove it to a holistic completion with the substance of Creation. Thus it is made of all magical materials from Creation. An Exalt who is Resonant with at least one of those materials is Resonant with this artifact; she is only Dissonant with the armor if she is not Resonant with any magical material and is Dissonant with one.

Furthermore, the armor seems adept at holding the power of hearthstones within it; it seems to warp to hold any quantity given to it.

    Living Nexus Slumber
    Cost: -; Mins: Essence 1
    Type: Permanent
    Keywords: Resonant
    Duration: Permanent
    Prerequisites: None

The power of the armor is the ability to align itself with Creation. The Exalt may rest in her armor and even sleep in it without hindrance, so long as at least one hearthstone is socketed inside it. Moreover, she regains motes as if from a greater manse.

Resonant: The Exalt also adds one mote to her hourly respiration for each hearthstone socketed inside the armor.

    Five Pillars Harmony
    Cost: 5m, 1wp; Mins: Essence 2
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: One Scene
    Prerequisites: None

In a moment of focus the user aligns themselves more perfectly into the essence of the world around them. The Five Pillars Stand Triumphant gains additional (Essence) Soak and Hardness; additionally, the armor aligns itself with any other artifacts to which the Exalt is attuned - if she is Resonant with the armor, she is Resonant with the artifacts as well.

    Artifice Scarred in Magic
    Cost: 6m; Mins: Essence 3
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: Resonant, Decisive-only
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisites: Five Pillats Harmony

The Exalt delivers a titanic slam of her gauntleted hand into an opponent’s artifact, fingertips hardened to rend steel. The attack disrupts the Essence of the artifact, scarring it with a scrap of foreign magical material.

The Exalt makes a Brawl or unarmed Martial arts gambit with a difficulty of (the target artifact rating +1), or 10 if an N/A artifact. Success on this gambit causes the artifact to act as if it was another magical material of the Exalt’s choice to determine whether its user is Resonant, neutral, or Dissonant with its evocations, but otherwise functions normally.

Reversing this effect requires either a Superior repair project (for normal artifacts) or a Legendary repair project (for an N/A artifact).

Resonant: The sliver will shift subtly inside the scarred artifact, evolving to disrupt any evocations its user tries to perform. Even if the user is Resonant with all magical materials, he acts as if he is only neutral to the affected artifact.

    Creation Betrays it's Master
    Cost: 8m, 1wp; Mins: Essence 4
    Type: Simple
    Keywords: None
    Duration: Instant
    Prerequisites: Artifice Scared in Magic

Willing the implanted scrap of the armor to become toxic, the Exalt renders an artifact scarred by the prerequisite far more dangerous to use. Those who have witnessed this power have seen wielders burned alive, driven mad, or even impaled by their armor.

The effects of this curse are based on the magical material that was injected into the artifact by the prerequisite.

Orichalcum: The metal becomes haughty and refuses to grant full attunement to the user. They lose access to Evocations from the artifact and the lightness that comes from attunement.

Moonsilver: The metal fluidly lashes out at the target. If the artifact is a weapon then the target must make a reflexive (Strength + Athletics) roll with a difficulty of (its artifact rating +1). Failure results in him suffering a withering attack from the weapon with a dice pool of [(Essence)+(artifact rating)+Accuracy]. Initiative lost by the target is not gained by the Exalt.
If the cursed artifact is armor, it twists and flexes to reveal gaps to allow enemy weapons to penetrate it, reducing his soak and Hardness by (Essence).
Starmetal: Destiny itself becomes the architect of the target’s fall; 1s on his rolls subtract successes.

Soulsteel: The target begins to hear the voices of the dead and dying every moment he continues to wield the artifact. He suffers -3 to Resolve, and if he continues to carry the cursed artifact for a month, will gain the Madness Derangement (starting at minor and climbing another step for each month worn).

Jade: The artifact becomes the source of a storm of elemental Essence, which acts similarly to the Dragon-Blooded anima flux, save that it only affects the target.

This Evocation can be stopped by Charms that negate shaping or twisting by the Wyld.

    Five Harmonies Invincibility
    Cost: 10m, 1wp ; Mins: Essence 5
    Type: Reflexive
    Keywords: Decisive-only, Perilous, Apocryphal
    Duration: Instant
Prerequisites: Five Pillars Harmony, Creation Betrays it's Master

So long as Creation stands united it will never fall. With the power of Creation imbued into the armor it refuses to topple. In order to use this Evocation they must be Resonant and attuned to all artifacts they are currently holding on them.

Against this one attack, the Exalt gains infinite Hardness; effects which ignore normally ignore Hardness fail to do so against this Evocation. This Evocation can only be used once per scene, unless acting in the defense of Creation and the life on it.

But what of Five Pillars Stands Triumphant?
Good question. Perhaps the ST might have an interesting ideal for them, Perhaps it will be held by a future enemy or ally, and perhaps them together can become more powerful then both individually.

Or perhaps I'll see if I can homebrew that up as well later before years end. We'll see.
