I mentioned the Clan Protectorate because it's local for the FWL (perhaps uncomfortably so for most of the Halas Marik pretenders). Also... have you been paying attention to the events in BattleTech since the Wars of Reaving? There aren't Crusader/Warden divisions anymore as such. All of them pretty much split up due to individual cultural developments and treat with each other rather coldly at Council of Six meetings (technically those six were Abjured by the Homeworlds, but they still won't let the Nova Cats play in their sand box).

Sea Foxes will still sell an awful lot, though (Diamond Sharks voted to change their name back in 3100).

Edit 2: You know that might just work...if you get a Naoma involved. Though I wonder if the Realm would recognize it. While the realm does have a lax look on homosexual affairs (mainly that it is hardly considered cheating since it by nature cannot produce an heir) I wonder if the realm recognizes gay marriage (as the realm recognizes marriage in Dynasts as a contract to bare and conceive.) It would take not just a law but the reworking of the whole societial view of marriage. After all the Dynastic marriage is not out of love, and love rarely if ever factors into it (unless your lucky), though being seen as Paramors and lovers would likely work out with all the same benefits.

Another thing to consider is Dynastic culture favors the mother's line so much like Navajo culture you are born into your mother's house by way of your father. Also if I am Remembering Exalted: The Dragon Blooded correctly the husband takes on the name of his wife, not the wife taking on his name.

Does the fan-following of Nikol Marik/Danai Centrella-Liao have anything to do with this?

(They can make it legal, and borrow an iron womb and some scientists from the Clan Protectorate!)

Her brother tried to murder her during her 'congratulations for exalting' party, Her Redness wasn't particularly happy about him taking it that far with his own sister but that is the kind of environment she was in during her formative years. Most people would probably end up as pricks under those circumstances. And even the ones that don't will usually act like pricks because not being a prick is seen as a sign of weakness.

One day I'm going to need to ask you to compose a full and chronologically ordered account of Sapphire Rhea's exploits and send it to me.

Sapphire Rhea first met Mnemon after her initial bid for the throne had failed and she was on trial for treason (I should note this was a slightly modified continuity where House Tepet defeated the Bull of the North and the Mask of Winters didn't attack Thorns).

Initially the interest in Mnemon was purely practical; if we could get the underdog candidate on the throne then we would at least have a friend in a high place. Since direct support from Anathema would damage her chances of finding allies among the Dragon-Blooded we rescued her in secret, smuggling her out in the form of a butterfly while Sapphire Rhea took her place in the trial.

Rhea (as Mnemon) used the trial to try and appeal to the Dragon-Blooded present to try and persuade the members of the other Great Houses that as it became clear that the Empress wasn't coming back House Tepet would eliminate its potential rivals one by one because that's exactly what she would do in their situation the outcome was a forgone conclusion but Rhea escaped and joined up with the others.

Having spent the better part of a week pretending to be Mnemon it was now time for her to meet the real thing, she gave her a blow by blow of the trial to see how accurate her portrayal was. Which lead to something of an exchange of life histories and since Rhea had already slept with the Queen of Thorns, married the Tri-Khan and made a good enough impression on a Dynast that learning she was a Lunar wasn't a deal breaker she figured 'why not?' and propositioned her.

We parted ways because Mnemon told us under no uncertain terms that if we were her allies rather than her new captors then we'd let her go off and do her own thing.

That lasted a while until Rhea learnt sorcery and sent her first Infallible Messenger to Mnemon and they were sorcerous pen pals for a few weeks until eventually deciding to meet up in Greyfalls where things really took a turn for the romantic with those two. Before the final battle against a machine the Magnus created to rebuild Creation as a perfect world (long story) Rhea sent Mnemon one last message telling her to get to safety if they couldn't stop this plan. She replied that she had every confidence in her and told her to stay safe.

There's now been a time skip and we're playing different PCs (my new character also has a bizarre love life) Mnemon is now Empress and by all indication she and Rhea are still together though at least some of the Silver Pact considers her a traitor as a result. I don't think she cares though.

You are concerned that purple added to a breastplate looks silly? The Pope isn't. Check out the Swiss Guards in shiny breastplates. For some reason, I can't upload photos (always says I don't have permission and then I can't post anything for a while), or I would upload a brilliant photo. There are some good ones here: http://www.newlyswissed.com/who-are-the-swiss-guards/

Perroneles stop you respiring essence and make you look sickly. There's no way she wears one. (Probably makes her demonic guards wear them though.)

Also, historically, purple is the most expensive and difficult colour to make. That's why I assumed she wears it. And isn't that armour the very same suit Ragara tried to kill her with that she's been walking around in all these years just as a huge "f-you" to her big bro?

I think I'd be more inclined to place that parallel over Mnemon and one or more of her own children.

    Possibly excluding the sexual abuse.

Mnemon could easily afford a light chainmail shirt or some such, but ultimately artifact armor in Exalted is fairly bulky, noticeable and imposing. You can't really make heavy armor that is also easily concealed. So for her, she'd rather have the bulkier armor that offers more protection than lighter, less effective armor that looks pretty.

Also, she probably doesn't feel like she has much need to dress up outside of very formal occasions. Who is she going to impress? Anyone who isn't immediately impressed at hearing the words, "I'm Mnemon," is either a fool or her mother, and fancy clothing ain't gonna impress the latter.

And, of course, Mnemon has faced a bunch of assassination attempts over the course of her life. So while she probably does, occasionally, dress up in fancy dresses and nice shoes, for her average day-to-day activities she wears fairly tough armor and keeps a paranoid eye out for assassins. So I always thought it was a telling character trait that her "generic character portrait" almost always has her wearing armor rather than wearing fancier, but far less practical clothing.

As an aside, you can also wear Perronele's underneath actual armor, so it's safe to say she probably stacks one of those with her armor, though she may not do so as much depending on what the ST decides what her opinions on her dreams about Malfeas are.

you people have no appreciation for fashion from the 80's. I am disappointed. Why did I even come back to these forums!

Actually, I forgot why I came here after I got distracted by this thread and a few others. I suppose I'll just go back to lurking until I remember what I came here for.

Something, something i need an exalted wiki that acts as an appendix.

    And purple = power

Hardly unusual to add expensive silks or other decorative materials onto armor. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of the design, but I don't think it looks too bad, especially in comparison to so many other god-awful armor/clothing designs in Exalted (Scroll of Kings 116 springs to mind, as does the entire Infernal signature cast).

I mean, if we want to rag on characters for their armor/clothing design, there are a lot of characters who deserve a sound thumping much more than Mnemon does.
