Pretty soon, a new edition of Exalted will be coming out. I sometimes have some troubles mastering new crunch, and back when we did the Burn Legend Tournament on the forums it gave me a really good feel for how the system worked. I'm hoping to do something similar here. A bit of fun, a bit of learning new combat tactics and seeing how they work out against each other.
If you want in, make me a character. You Will Need:
Finalists (how many is gonna depend on how many finalists we actually have) will get quick character portraits from me, and if their creators wish they will show up briefly as contestants in the Emerald Lotus Tournament in God-Kicking Boot. The winner gets to actually have a brief fight scene depicted in the comic, either against Boot or another major character.
If you're interested, sign up. Signups close once 3E drops, at which point I'll put up a bracket and the contestants will fight for my amusement (probably by IM or something and then we'll post the combat here, for the sake of speed). Combats will be adjudicated by myself or by another neutral party. If somebody drops out, their opponent gets a free pass up to the next match.
If you want in, make me a character. You Will Need:
- One paragraph of backstory, including the sort of fighting style you want this character to have!
- One paragraph of visual character description. Please don't bother with reference images, you can give me those if you win!
- Don't worry about stats: you'll do those once 3E actually drops, right now I just wanna set up tournament brackets.
- Mortals only. I'm trying to get a feel for how combat tactics in the new system work without the magic. No charms/sorcery, please.
- Also, no artifacts.
- You'll be fighting on a raised stone dais, square-shaped, about fifty feet across, surrounded by a cheering crowd. Not much scenery for stunt fodder here.
- You may have up to two weapons.
- Paired weapons (hookswords, smashfists, iron boots, bow and arrows, etc) only count as one weapon.
- If you're using arrows or small thrown weapons, you may have up to six shots worth of arrows/knives/chakrams/needles/whatever before you run out of ammo.
- You may wear whatever armor you see fit.
- You may use whatever fighting style and whatever combat tactics (including poison, drugs, etc) you like, as long as it's available to mortals.
- Poison/drugs count as one of your two weapon choices, though!
- No pets. You fight alone.
- Your character must have a reason to be in the city of Wisdom Anointed As a Sapphire in An Teng, and to want to participate in a local martial arts school's monthly tournament.
- You lose a match, you're out. You win, you advance.
- If you kill your opponent before Round 3, you need to use the social system to persuade an NPC referee that it was accidental or be disqualified. I wanna learn the new the social system too!
- For Round 3 and any further rounds, lethal matches are allowed.
- Contestants will have one day of healing downtime between matches. If you've got injuries you can't heal in a day...tough luck going into the next match!
