  • Kick starter Update #84

So, I'm too scared to look at this new fiction and the changes...can somebody please tell me if they're good?

I peeked through the file and saw no real difference... I'm proceding to erase it from my hard drive after ending this sentence.

The new story, Death of a Solar, is good, and helps to get across non-Martial Arts Charms being subsumed into natural capabilities, not something that people actually call out as "techniques". It also has a bit of the feels.

ASJ and WTMID are still what we were familiar with, in spite of re-framing and other efforts. Even if it was presented as a kind of potboiler pulp novel in-universe this time around, that just means that ASJ becomes the butt of in-character jokes in the future, particularly if it's in the new edition, where Charms aren't a thing for Solars and presumably many other Exalted, but the text still has a "rules as physics" thing going on.

        ... which it explicitly doesn't?

Just to clarify, is this the same fiction where a dragonblooded becomes a solar and theres a hogwarts school of wizardry for like 300 twilight caste solars?

I was asked to help with feedback and give a concise account of our problems with it. It's mostly tweaks to the existing fiction so hopefully they're not talking about the Realm being ruled by an Emperor anymore and I caught that Singular Justice is now set during the First Age where the whole context makes way more sense.

Is Death of a Solar about a Solar getting his teeth kicked in by a Terrestrial?

              If so... I might download.

Hasnt terrestrials absolutley demolishing solars been the norm in creation for thousands of years? like..thats what the Wyld Hunt is right? Every once in a while the hero we need Freddy Mercury shows up and Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Terry Crews and Ronda Rousey break every bone in Freddie's body?

Honestly, that story about the Dragon Blood who becomes a Solar? If it weren't for the ONE thing about a Dragon Blood becoming a Solar, I'd love it

Youd probably also love the brownies i bake (i use coffee for the icing mix, its so deliciously bitter) unless i replaced the milk in the recipe with orange juice. Sometimes you cant salvage the flavour of a story when the author didnt care enough to use the right ingredients.

but I thought the presentation of the first age was supposed to actually be good this edition

Fewer than two thousand years. And there isn't a lot of fiction where the DBs win. (The most famous story being a Wyld Hunt killing a child because the Gold Faction allowed it as a "Just according to keikaku*" moment. *Keikaku means planned.)

True. It does ring faintly of "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

It's my hope that when the Dragonblooded book comes around, every story in it will be about them kicking someone else's ass.

I kind of disagree because the entire backbone of the last 3 editions was "There was the first age, tanning salon men thought they were hot shit. Then thier bodyuards got fed up with being gifted thier christmas bonuses in Tim Hortons gift cards so they genocided them so hard they never came back and literally every consequence of the last more than 1000 but less than 2000 years has been informed by the actions, agency, culture and power of the bodyguard people."

Like default exalted is that the only reason anyone who opposes the realm has a chance at disrupting thier ironclad dominion over the entire world is because the Empress, the strongest of them all, vanished.
