  • New Anathema Character Management - Anathema Reincarnated

So, I feel a bit nervous making this announcement, perhaps a bit presumptuous, but, I and a friend of mine (Kenai on these forums) have been working to finish Urskr's work on a version of Anathema for Third Edition Exalted.

    We call it "Anathema Reincarnated" and it is currently well on it's way to its first, official version. Until then, we wanted to get people excited for the finished application, with this;

    https://bitbucket.org/blakwurm/anath...ated/downloads

It's a link to our teaser for Anathema; a complete combat tracker! Do you sometimes have difficulty tracking your circle's essence, health, initiative and so on? Then, you can make use of this simple application! All it requires to run is Java 8 or newer. Simply download the file and run; you can currently save combatants, manage stats and healthtracks, and even run most of the combat calculations. It still requires some manual function; battlegroups don't automatically calculate the additional damage from being attacked decisively, for instance, but for the most part you can easily speed up combat with this function of our new app.

Although we aren't part of the Anathema team, we have the utmost respect for them and Urskr's work, and, given that his version of Anathema has been shelved for the time being, possibly forever, we hope that we can give back to the Exalted community as much as they and the game alike have given back to us.

More features are on the horizon, so check back regularly. We intend for Anathema Reincarnated to be a useful tool for STs and players alike.

Should be working. I had forgotten to set the repo to "public".

With that out of the way...

Hey folks. Please let us know what you think of the demo app. It's been a fun experience developing it so far, and I'm very much looking forward to hearing what the community thinks about it.

If you have Java/Kotlin chops and are interested in helping, please let me know!

If at first you don't succeed, refactor!

Ooh, how exciting! I was a bit worried that the prior project had died some ignominious death, but here it is, rising from the ashes, so to speak.

I wish I could code to help you guys out, but all I'm good for is waiting with baited breath.

How do you install it? Is it the same as the instructions in Anathema thread?

We're glad to hear, and honestly feared much the same thing. We kind of think of Urskr and his team as our first age predecessor, but now we're back and ready to take the age of sorrows on by storm

Oh heck no, it's a lot simpler than that. Just make sure you've got a copy of Java 8 (if you play Minecraft you probably already do.) and just download the Fat.Jar (Yes I know it's a funny name but it's a technical term) and doubleclick.

                Wow. Nice work.

I might be able to help a little. My programming skills are very limited, though, so don't expect me to do anything interesting.

What kind of help do you need, anyway?

PS: IIRC one of the Kickstarter stretch goals was some kind of official support for Anathema. Are you guys getting that support too?

We've asked Holden and Urskr for their blessings but received no word as of yet. I'm assuming they haven't been in on their accounts yet.

As for help, talk to Kenai.

I sincerely appreciate the sentiment, and you're good for a lot more than that! One way that you can be useful is to try using it in your game this weekend and let us know it it went! (Or, if you don't have a game going, then you can poke around and see if you can find any bugs!)

If you want to learn how to code (a hobby that I highly recommend, for a great many reasons), let me point you in the right direction- http://mooc.fi/courses/2013/programming-part-1/

I took this course one year ago, and the reincarnation of Anathema is a direct result of the knowledge that I gained either from the course itself or from what I read after.

If you decide to take the course, let me know what your username is so that I can see where you are in the stats!

Oh, that's a nifty little tracker. Hope to see more from you.

Disclaimer: I'll huff, grump, and defend my position, but if you're having fun I'll never say you're doing it wrong.

So, what kind of blessings do you need and how many bulls do I have to sacrifice to Ahlat for them?

Right now we need help with unit testing. All of my development time has been spent adding features, and I have completely neglected automated testing. If you help get unit tests up and running, and keep involved with the testing process, dev time will be considerably sped up and the quality of the app will stay high! Not exactly a flashy job, but it's an important one that I don't have much time for.

I don't want any blessings from Ahlat. If you could get me a blessing from Luna or Sol Invictus, on the other hand...
