  • "Cleansing" Demon-blood?

    Howdy y'all.

I'm looking for some advise here - I am looking for some suitably epic ways of cleansing a demon-blooded NPC, and so turning them back into a human (or close)
The NPC is the son of one of the PC's, and the NPC has been Endowed by a demon. We're looking for ways to remove this endowment?

    Any possible ideas are welcomed

Why would you do such a terrible thing to someone?!

But probably your best bet is to negociate with the demon/beat him up until he retracts his Endowment.

Bits and pieces of Exalted setting.

Well, from the charm's writeup its "permanent" and cant just be withdrawn (infernals p 58)
so its more like finding a way to remove the demonic mutation/additions.
And the NPC is positively inclined towards removing the "foul demonic influence" in his life.

        Order-Affirming Blow?

Once, there was a maiden... who spent all her time on the internet.
"Someone out there is WRONG," she said.
So she tossed a noose made of golden light... and strangled her opponent.
        Both of them died alone.
"Love is for football players and cheerleaders," her obituary said.

is that possible using only mortal means, or maybe Dragon-blooded charms?

Oh. Well, you're probably hosed. Nothing canonical, really, besides custom sorcery I guess.

The power of plot compels you!

Under the signs of the Maidens, the means exist of severing a demon from its progenitor and letting it be reborn into a god.

Surely there is something in the skien of Fate to turn a demon-blood into a god-blood as well?

(Note that this doesn't have to involve Sidereals; there are Gods that work Fate as well, maybe get a special I'm-disowning-you-demon-dad-annulment endowment from one of them?)

How about non-canonical? Maybe some DB medicine to "cleanse the mind" (Purity of Mind Method) ?
Or maybe using some artifacts (like the Celestial Phoenix Cauldron, or Resplendent Satchel of Healing)?

                  Ah, Dragonblooded?

                  Hrm.....

You're probably limited to trying to throw together some custom Terrestrial spell, possibly a ritual utilizing the light of the Unconquered Sun on a Solar aspected demense/manse to purify the Demonblood.

                  Something like that.

The problem you're going to run into is that "cleansing" demonic influence generally doesn't make sense; demonic power is a really cool thing to have for an ordinary mortal in Creation, except insofar as having obvious mutations can make you ostracized. You can remove derangements, some Charms can remove mutations (though that's often pretty hard), but any package of pure power - like, for instance, Essence increase, enlightened Essence, or Spirit Charms - would be hard-coded into the demon-blood, because any power that would remove it would also be an enormous potential "fuck you" to the majority of people to whom it could apply, with people wanting it to be used on them being highly uncommon.

Your best bet as far as homebrew is concerned and if you only have access to mortal/DB means would be Medicine Charms removing mutations through surgery, and mental mutations through Purity of Mind Method or appropriate upgrades. The Resplendent Satchel of Healing won't cut it. Maybe a very powerful thaumaturgical procedure, but that seems out of bond for it.

Hunt down an even more powerful spirit for a second Endowment, obscuring the first.

Bind a gang of demonic retainers to follow him everywhere so he looks less demonic in comparison.

Hire a someone who looks exactly like your son used to look as a human. Dress them in identical clothes, except the actor is wearing a mask. If any Immaculates show up, quickly swap the mask from the actor to the real son.

Spread a rumor about how your son has been blessed by the Elemental Dragons, and that anyone who has given the Anathema a foothold in their hearts will now perceive him as a demon.

Tick off somebody powerful and get your entire community embroiled in a bitter war. If anyone complains about your son's demonic visage, slap them in the face and shout "Dammit, man! We're fighting for our survival here! We don't have time for this!"

And you're down with his theonormative bullshit?

(the above statement is not entirely serious)

I don't think you're likely to find canon instant charms at the DB level that can pull this off. For a DB, you're probably looking at an extend ritual of some sort.

In terms of canon for the DB / mortal level, you're probably looking at an extended exorcism ritual. If I were adjudicating the ritual, I'd make it nearly, if not absolutely, impossible for a mortal to pull that off, which would make it difficult for a DB. I'd give bonuses for extend purification rituals in a manse aligned towards that goal, either a Solar manse or a purification manse (which might be a Water manse).

One non-canon DB way would be to invent a new Dynasty charm that allows the "adoption" of mortals (and maybe DBs themselves) into Dynastic lines. Such a charm might be able to override existent familial bounds. It would likely require a very powerful DB to learn and use this charm.

Other means include some SMAs, Solar charms, and sorceries probably beyond the reach of DBs.

I do like Mewtarthio's idea of getting a spirit endowment.

To save your child, you must seek out the very same agents who destroyed him. The demon lord Makarios knows many secrets, mayhaps including some that might remove the taint of a demon. There are, of course, problems. First, Makarios lives in Hell, and few ways are known to bring him from that place beside the demon Sorcery of the Anathema. Second, he is a shrewd and ruthless businessman, and to save a life, he is unlikely to demand anything lesser in return.

Though only in the Dragonblooded it is pure enough to manifest, in each child the world births there lies the Essence of the Dragons, and in it, your salvation. Drown yourself in the purest water, that your blood be free of taint. Breathe the holiest air, that your breath be as a newborn child's. Eat from the sacred trees of Akka-Nur. Cleanse your spirit in the hottest of flames. Finally, bury your body beneath the Imperial Mountain for five days, and you shall be restored.

It is said that when the ancient spirit known as the Kukla was first born and raged across the world, he shed a single tear, for in becoming what he now was, he had lost what he had been before. Where the tear fell, ten mountains sprung up, and between them lies a spring which cures all ills and restores those who bathe in it to what they were before they changed and lost themselves. Should you seek this spring, though, I would advice you to be careful, for if you linger too long, you might find yourself reversing more changes than you bargained for.

Or you could seek out and bargain with the Anathema, who know the dark secrets of form-changing. That sounds like a good plan, unlikely to backfire in any way.

"They" is an excellent gender neutral pronoun.

Scourge, in its function for removing permanent dots of Essence, can turn beings with magical heritage back into mortals if they assent to it.
