  • Third Edition: Infernal Wish List

"Cyan, I'm afraid that our Fake Lesbian
schtick may not survive the Edition change" ~ Hell-Nun

This is the thread where you wish upon the Maiden for what you want Infernal to be in Third Edition. And as the OP, I will take the pleasure of starting then:
    • Chrysalis Grotesque: Muscular guy wriggling in a strangely erotic shell and then emerge with white slime cover all his body's curve while breathing heavily, oh wait, that really sound dirty for some reason. So yeah, if I want some kind of transformation erotica then I will find a Stone of Chrysalis instead of having every Infernals lost their virginity to their Coadjutor. Not to mention the whole being helpless for five days seem kinda.....stupid? While the chrysalis can't be destroyed, the image of Sidereal deathsquad wacking me with killstick the moment I got out from the shell is still seem pretty scary.
    • Unwoven Coadjutor: Don't hate it, but don't really like either, and you have the choice of leaving it at 0 dot which make the demon shut up completely (I'm pretty sure nobody choose the "constantly shouting in your head" option as mention by the book). I do think Blue Beetle from Young Justice is kinda cool though.
    • Performance Charms: I can't believe that only Malfeas got dancing charm in Ex2! With Infernal having Abilities charms in Third Edition, my dream of playing a mysterious musician with bad boy attitude will finally come true, and I don't have to put up with learning a bunch of charms that I don't want just to get to the juicy part :look at Witness to Darkness:
    • Hell's Rockstar: need to die in fire. Now I know that some people love meme and generalizing a little too much, but it pretty silly when somebody describe every Infernal to newcomer as constantly fucking demon hooker, smoking demon weed, shouting angrily at demon and doing a bunch of "EXTREME DEATH METAL !" activities that I forget mention, they make it look like every Hell's chosen is actually Malfeas in disguise or something.

    I think you mean 'schtick.'

My hope for 3e Infernals is that I feel as though my PC gains power by losing their humanity and twisting into something alien and bizarre.

While I appreciate the themes of decadence and corruption, I don't want First Age Solarness to be something that defines the splat, especially as the splat was previously defined by the Yozi, and FA Solars seems a serious step down.

I'd like more charms and abilities that twist the world around you in interesting or horrific ways.

Lillun: Please, please don't put her back in, please! Or, if you have to, make her an interesting figure and not just squick for the sake of squick.

Centralized Archetype: The biggest problem with 2e Infernals, to me, was that it was basically two halves of two different books, pasted together. Having a centralized concept for them, like how Solars are Traditional Greek Heroes, Lunars are monsters and Ogres and DBs are Elemental Power Rangers, would be awesome.

Martial Arts: I'm a sucker for Martial Arts, and Black Claw, an MA from Malfeas, is very different from most of the ones found in creation, I'd like to see what other sorts of Hell Kung Fu Exalted has to offer.

Homebrew: With Devil-Tigers being replaced with a more complex Shintai System, I am rather curious what sort of homebrew could grow from this.

This is more of a smaller thing, and it might've been in 2e, I'm not sure. But a Malfeas Charm that, when you attack an object out of anger or frustration, it breaks, shatters or cracks. It's a thing I've seen multiple villains do, and, with his god-king theme and his anger issues, it seems like a perfect fit for Malfeas.

I made some Martial Arts for 3e, look at them here and here.

I rankle at the five days in the Chrysalis because I was promised immediate, impetuous action, but hold on a minute, you need to wait while your body gets rearranged...

No. You go and do shit now. You do not wait to merge with a demon. The demon itself only seemed like an excuse to wedge in the really bad part of Chapter 1, so it might be best to drop it entirely, too. It also seemed to revolve around the Yozis being affiliated with Castes, which is not going to be a thing.

Venom transformed quickly and I've always thought of him as a great Infernal.

That said, I think slow transformation should also be available.

I do hope that you can use Shintai and MA Form at the same time now, my Kung-fu Shoggoth demand this to become a reality!

Oh, and tthe Coadjutor can only descend from your Caste's patron is just stupid beyond measure, does the author think it'll make the character more diverse or something ?

I got more of a Wyld mutant type of hopelessness vibe from The Fly, myself.

That's another interpretation, and the ending where he's little more than a sub-human monster fits better with being ravaged by the Wyld than Infernal exaltation.

There are some elements that feel Infernal to me though:
                  • Seth Brundle, the main character, could be a Solar. He's brilliant, he's charming and self-confident, and Jeff Goldbloom has several shirtless scenes to show off his body.
                  • Despite having all this going for him, at his greatest moment (the successful testing of his teleporter), there's an element of failure. As he just had an argument with his girlfriend, he's gotten drunk, and failed to notice the fly in the teleporter with him. It's a stupidly small error and a very human one, but it's going to lead to his downfall.
                  • When he first starts transforming, it's awesome. He has a scene like the one from the first Spider-Man movie where he notices he's suddenly stronger, faster, and more physically (implied sexually) potent.
                  • Then the other shoe drops: The transformation, while originally awesome, turn into a trap. He's gotten far more than he bargained for.
It's not a perfect fit, but I think there are some parallels.

I want Infernals having a reason to keep their humanity. Yes, I'd want basically a Renegade Deathknight... just in Infernal form.
Of course I don't want every Infernal going back on their deal, but the "deal with the devil" theme should be at least borderly related to Infernals.

Chrysalis Grotesque and Unwoven Coadjutor are some of my favorite parts of GSPs. D:

Sadly, from what I recall, the Rockstars of Hell thing is here to stay. Infernals are going embody the excess of First Age Solar, like pre-corrupted Solars to contrast Solars not yet corrupted Solars.

Err, anyways...If I had were to make my wish list?

Divorce Primary Infernal Splat from Solars: Malfeas is this awesome setting full of cool set pieces and interesting characters and politics. It's very inhuman, alien place that facilitates the telling of very different stories. I suppose making their primary exalt one stolen from Creation does keep the focus on Creation but it's also a but of a lazy solution and it creates this annoying situation where Infernals are shackled to Solars, and forced to have to compete in the Solaroid arena in Solaroid ways. t also makes them far more stealing of the spotlight than they really should be. Why not keep the concept of Corrupted Solars but fold it into the old ideas of akumas and instead just have them be actual Solars, who made deals with the yozi for power, influence and resource This keeps the emphasis on Solars complete itt he ability to do stories much closer to the original Faust, and ave the primary Infernals splat be a wholly of Malfeas/the yozi/demons/etc., maybe as Heralds or something, spreading the influence/doing the will of the yozi in Creation, all the while managing the newly corrupted Solars their bosses made deals with. A lot of this leads into my second point...

Create a Different Gaming Experience: By the time Infernals come out, Solars, DBs, Lunars, Abyssals and Sidereals will all be out. Exigents, Getimians, Liminals and probably some others. Solars, DBs, Abyssals, Sidereals and Exigents are of particular interest here. By the time Infernals come out, we will have seen at least four Ability based Exalts, taking that idea in a variety of directions, additionally, Exigents will have been out for quite a while. Now, while I have no clue how exactly Exigents will work, I suspect they will include rules for making Ability based exalts, and that Ability based Exalts will be amongst the easiest to make. I suspect the forums and whatever will be over-flowing with all stripes of ability based exalt. This isn't to say making them ability based and interesting is impossible, but I do think that they should be definitely be thinking towards the fact as the game line goes own, the expectations, and especially expectations of giving a different sort of experience, will tend to go up. A corrupted Solar? Why can't I just play a Solar... and be corrupt? Why can't I just use the Exigent rules as laid out to modify the Solar charm set to make them Malfeas/Demon themed? The whole concept of corrupted Solars channelling the decadence of the corrupt First Age Solars... what about that can I not play just as a Solar?

Meh, just a few of my thoughts... I don't really feel like it's a topic worth discussing yet because it is so far in the future. I do hope the devs are thinking that just because "Infernals are solar shards corrupted by the yozi" was he first thing know about Infernals and maybe the only thing know for a while, doesn't mean it's somehow sacrosanct and must be preserved. It's a new edition, Infernals as corrupted Solars isn't key to the central thesis of the game, it's something that can be changed without changing the game line, like, at all.

Meh meh meh, just my opinions.

The fact that you mention you want things interesting OR horrific is really important to me. I think Abyssals and Infernals make great villains, but if I want to play one who is all shades of grey, or even outright heroic despite the twisted source of his power I would like to see their source books leave room for this without having to go through too many hoops to get to that point. I shouldn't have flee from demonic superiors and escape Malfeus, or sneak into a Deathlord's keep and destroy my monstrance one of his most closely guarded possessions just to play my character the way I want to. I understand that patronage is a important part of both splats, but I would also like to see options for the creation of rogue or independent characters!

                            * More emphasis on bitterness and vengeance than failure in their Exaltation narrative.
                            * Loyalist Green Sun Princes as working to free Yozis has problems that mean it should just be dropped, but I'd still like insights into Green Sun Princes with a bit of distant spiritual reverence towards them or pragmatic sense to exploit their resources.
                            * Green Sun Princes should be primarily in Creation. Not just "they're people with stuff that brings them to Creation", they should be there first and foremost. Hell has its uses (and probably its role in the genesis of their narrative motifs), but I'd say it should be primarily a destination to holiday and lobby, not your home base, certainly not your primary setting.
                            * Sense that I can make Charms informed by Yozis without having to come up with entire new cascades.

I have approximate knowledge of many things.

Considering that none/very few of your regular Infernal Charms are gonna work, I think we won't see this.
That said, I think it depends on what your Shintai looks like. If my Shintai takes the shape of an octopus who has each of his suckers replaced with an angelical face that sing in unison about him in a language no one actually understands yet everyone who hears them knows EXACTLY what they are saying... I doubt he would be very good at Tiger Style.
That said, if your Shintai is essentially Sailor Malfeas, where he gets a different weapon and a spiffy new outfit, I don't see why not.

Can I add Sailor Malfeas to my wishlist?
