  • The Imbued and Fomori...

Was there ever a supplement or info on using fomori and/or Pentex creations in a Reckoning chronicle? For some reason I think there was, but I'm not entirely positive.

    PENTEX SUCKS.

Between Freak legion and the possessed book that's all you would need to bring fomori into hunter.

Wasn't it Urban Legends? A review mentioned that they called them "mutants" in a wink-wink nudge-nudge kind of fashion.

Damn! I think you're right. I'll have to check my hard copy now.

Honestly it bothered me that Fomori weren't more of Imbued enemy, it felt to me too artificial that they emphasized that Main Core Supernaturals were their most common Targets. They should have also quarreled with Spirits almost as often as Ghosts.

It is a time for great deeds!

Some of them might be too heinously dangerous to Imbued. Gorehounds and throwbacks come to mind, while ferectoi are definitely over the top for them.

I mean are they really that much more dangerous than vampires, werewolves, and mages? Imbued are pretty much always fighting out of their depth.

I think some fomori are too weird to mesh well with hunter. They aren't strange in a good way, but in a 'what the fuck is this goofy thing' kind of way. It is difficult to fight something like a Toad while keeping a straight face. That infamous 'splatterpunk' vibe some of the breeds give off can be fun in its own campy way, but I think a lot of Imbued stories don't necessarily share that feel.

I actually disagree. I think that Fomori slot very well into a Reckoning story. Their goals, abilities, and degrees of horror are varied enough to really add some spice. Especially when a lot of players like to second guess what they're dealing with and Fomori are great for creating curve-balls and underrated antagonists. The Fomori's very modular power set also makes it easy to scale them versus Imbued, and to be honest the closer proximity of Fomori to base human relative to the major splats makes them an interesting foil against the Imbued template.

If you are talking about the Fomori from Possessed, Imbued are hopelessly outgunned. An Autonomy 5 combat Fomori can splatter a group of Imbued in a single turn without breaking a sweat because it is meant to go toe-to-toe with the Garou. Even an Autonomy 7 combat Fomori would be a real challenge for the Imbued.

Each to their own, but I prefer Possessed because the Fomori can be legitimate combat threats to Garou without being so crippled by taints that they explode when they sneeze.

That's... ok. Freak Legions is its own beast with different design goals (like splatterpunk and killer penises). Possessed really worked hard to make these characters matter, so if you haven't I suggest you at least read it, as it has some amazing insights into how the spirtmelded wor.

What doesn't kill you, makes you... stranger.

I have read it. While I like that incorporates spirit possessed individuals besides just Fomori the handling and implications of the Autonomy mechanic bug me a lot. I also found the style of the book very clinical and stale. I'm not saying people can't use or enjoy Possessed, it's not like they need my permission anyway. I just found it to be a backward step for an interesting aspect of the universe.

I agree. Possessed makes better antagonists, but Freak Legions makes better characters.
