  • Some game ideas I have been juggling around

Lately I've been brain storming two different game ideas to run with my group, and thought I would share them on here for some feedback.

    Pentex: Innovation

This game will take place in 1992, in Northern LA County, and LA County proper. The players will play mortal characters who work for the company Magadon, which is a Pentex owned company that deals with pharmaceuticals.

The players can play different type of employees that would normally work for such a company. The company itself resides in the Antelope Valley, which is northern LA County, and frankly is in the middle of the desert. The players most likely would live in LA proper, and commute.

One of the major themes I would think (mind you not in game, but like larger over all) is a cure for AIDs, and maybe cancer.

There is a California State Prison that resides in the town too.

This would not be a werewolf game, but would be a very darkish type game with influences such as The Devil's Advocate, and Rosemary's Baby. I also want to throw some bleak desert horror in there too.

    Mage: Bohemia (working title)

This game will take place in 1967 during the summer of love in San Fransisco. This will deal with obviously the flower power movement, but also deals with the flip side of it that existed that dealt with The Manson Family, Scientology getting its feet underneath them, The Process Church, and the underbelly of the drug use.

Also the memories of WW2 are not far lost, and Vietnam is in full swing.

All these groups are "Fighting for the soul of humanity" but are their motivations good?

Books like Imagica and the Great and Secret show by Clive Barker would be my inspirations with maybe movies like Inception too.

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks! yeah I have never ran or played Mage, but one of the player who will be playing is a Mage guru, so I just bought Mage 20th. I kind of shot the details to him and asked "would this be a Mage game you would play in?" and he said yup. It should be fun. So many crazy crazy themes that you can deal with there. I'm honestly thinking about potential NPC interactions with the like of Manson, or Morrison.

So, I have decided to put aside the Pentex game for now and concentrate on the Mage game. I got the Mage 20th book in the mail this Friday, and now have my own notebook for ideas for the game (I do this with different games I run, or am thinking of running. My wife probably thinks I am a mad man).

I thought I would share things I am researching for the Mage game in this thread and get feedback. For the record, I haven't started reading Mage 20th yet, I'm finishing up a book on the Process Church.

I really want to get the Height/Ashbury Summer of Love as accurate as I can for this game, including store names etc, so I have a book I order called "Haight-Ashbury: A History, which supposedly pulls no punches and is based of a Rolling Stone set of articles.

Currently I am looking into the Process Church's Chapterhouse that was in the area, and story ideas when it comes to that. So many possible plot points that can go along those lines. Also Charles Manson was in the area during the Summer of Love, straight from prison.

My goal is to really have this game be grounded in reality so that when Magik is used, it is mind blowing and impactful.
