There's also no special rules, etc.
It's kind of funny. By strictly rules changes Banality is much less of a threat now, and Glamour is much more available.

The book has a few places where the mechanics and the non mechanics material don't exactly match up. That's not really new as a thing in Changeling though, I would say.

edit: I mean, that's not really new as a thing in OWoD stuff generally, y'know? Or white wolf generally. Hell, Aberrant made it pretty hard to get taint points, despite novas becoming taint blasted monstrosities being a huge setting deal and problem. (Dear people working on Aberrant 2.0, this should not be taken to mean that I want taint to be easier to get. Thank you.)

        • I think it matches up fine in just C20. If you're running by the book 2nd ed rules and setting, then shift to by the book C20 rules and setting then yes, that's going to be weird.

Honestly, for people less inclined to deal with the current setting, the less house ruling needed to do so the better. For those dealing with the current setting, it's not hard to say "freehold as a background is restricted" or "in game you'll be dealing with a lot of npc interest in your hold as a plot point for stories" or whatever.

Exactly. One thing the system is *not* meant to do is provide some sort of statistical representation of the setting. Freeholds are rare, but by the rules you can take a hugely powerful one at character creation. Just like you can be mega rich, or be good enough to win a gold medal in the Olympics.

              • I mean, you could start the game as a Duke, it's not like they're at all common on the ground (ugh, again, I did a pun again. I am shamed). If your particular ST was cool with it, your group could be the all Duke motley or whatever. (Initial potential motley name "the Dukes of Earl", they're a group of dukes who are also a Soul/doo-wop band in the mortal world, touring Concordia and getting into adventures. I am further shamed.)

(Other potential motley name. The Dukes of Hazzard. They're a group of renegade Dukes in the Kingdom of Willows staying one step ahead of King Melige's shadowed tyranny in their Treasure car, though their popular support is damaged by their use of frankly entirely heavily inappropriate iconography. The shame rolls on...)

                  • Hah! Hey, let me know if you run all Duke game, I could totally think of something actually serious for that.

They come from Maryland so they don't exist.
