  • Changeling in the Wyld West

Hello! I've recently been pouring over werewolfs wyld west and reading about how different splats can take place in that time period. While I get how mage, wraiths, and vamps can adapt to the frontier I'm drawing blanks on how changelings can go about it. While the time is one of dime novels and gunslingers, bounty hunters and tensions between the natives and pioneers, I feel the kithians might face the danger of freeholds being rarer and the collection of glamour dangerous. Of course Nockers would go out west and invent a multitude of things, the remoteness easily helps this, boggans and witchel might find plentiful work out west to cater to their needs.

Has anyone ran changeling in the wyld west setting? How do changelings and the dreaming react to the Storm Eaters chaotic powers coursing through the lands?

Freeholds might be rarer but Glens will be more common so you will have options there, but a small Western town entirely settled by changelings and kinain is a suggested Freehold type.. I'd imagine banality would be less of an issue with fewer people around

The Nunnehi (Players Guide) should also be factored in being native Changeling. How would theg react to the arrival of European Changeling?

      Project consolidation:
Rough Draft: Dhole Shifters, Ottawa By Night, Tribebook Bunyip, Garou Variant
      In redaction: Lasombra Bloodline

I remember the nunnehi did not take european changelings very well, they competed for resources and the nunnehi knew the land much better compared to the kithians. Most glens would be fought over by both sides, banality probably wouldnt be to bad out west,

IIRC, the Frontier Secrets booklet that came with the WW:WW Storytellers Screen covered what the other supernaturals, including Changelings, were "officially" doing in the setting. However, my WW:WW books are buried ATM so I can't say what it said.

That said, Troll mountain men, Boggin barkeeps, and Eshu cardsharps are just too perfect of ideas not to exist.

A ranch can make for a good freehold, and a moderately sized "civilized" town could host a freehold set up as a hotel/casino/brothel/music hall.

That would explain how he was able to get away from the welcoming committee.

1880s New Orleans would make a pretty cool Changeling setting, mixing the Wild West and Victorian genres. Likewise San Francisco, Denver or the Puget Sound region.

At a guess, a massive upswing in Nervosa and Noctnitsa, and perhaps even a new type of monstrous chimera resulting of two or more being fused together into a totally new and horrible thing. Possibly also Nervosa or Noctnitsa being fused with living beings.

You could probably find a few ideas out of old Deadlands or Call of Cthulhu RPG books.

I feel like the fusion of chimeras would happen a lot, the effects of the storm eater on the dreaming probably wouldn't be felt immediately. Though with decimation of towns at the hands of Waking Sleepwalkers might starting affecting the dreaming plus the fear created by the horrors of warped spirit and flesh melding.

The little blurb of wyld west did note also a influx of mechanical chimeras that no one knew the source of, those alone might make a group hunt down its source under the employment of a nocker..

Obviously, Dr. Miguelito Loveless is responsible.

It occurs to me that you might could see certain Dauntain warped in strange ways by the Storm Eater. Apostates who view the Storm Eater as some way to save other changelings by feeding them to it so it "purifies" them. Black Magicians trying to harness it's power for their own ends. Cursed fused with wolves, coyotes or mountain lions into some sort of mad changeling beast lusting for changeling blood and flesh. Typhoids infected by the Storm Eater and spreading it to others. That sort of thing.
