  • [V5] Does "Blood of Potency" stack?

I was wondering how people are ruling on the question of whether or not you can stack "blood of potency"?

I mean the difficulty goes up with every attempt, and you burn blood and time, so sitting and whispering spells and waving your hands around in a corner while the rest of your coterie are battling the Demogorgon might not seem like a very useful expenditure of time (and in most cases it wont be). But maybe you are building up for a staking attempt or something....

I think this is an ST call. I personally would not allow it but only because it reminds me too much of Dragon Ball Z.

Agreed. This seems like something that shouldn't work. Also note that the difficulty actually wouldn't go up as much as one would think since for every 2 BP you gain, you also get +1 die on all discipline rolls.

It can indeed stack. You are raising an attribute, so its not considered a instance of the power like prowess or similar powers that cannot stack.

Resolve + Blood Sorcery roll against a Difficulty of 2 + actual Blood Potency.

So if you have BP 1 its difficulty 3, with BP 2 its difficulty 4....

        Lets do some math:

If we take that we have 3 Resolve and 3 Blood Sorcery, you have a pool of 6 die.
BP1 to BP2: 6 vs 3 is easy, we have 50% chance to succeed
BP2 to BP3: 7 vs 4 would seem easy right?

        53.57% success | 15.62% crit
        3.83 average successes / 11 highest roll
        Breakdown
        6.33% Bestial Failure
        0.52% Total Failure
        39.58% Failure
        ————————————
        37.95% Success
        10.47% Critical Win
        5.15% Messy Critical

        BP3 to BP4: 7 vs 5:

        30.58% success | 14.61% crit
        3.81 average successes / 10 highest roll
        Breakdown
        8.30% Bestial Failure
        0.59% Total Failure
        60.53% Failure
        ————————————
        15.97% Success
        10.10% Critical Win
        4.51% Messy Critical

Oh, what happened here? Our chances dropped to 30%

Since a initial pool of 6 seems that cannot do much, lets give the character a pool of 8 and continue where we left it: 4 Resolve, Blood Sorcery 4:

        BP3 to BP4: 9 vs 5:

        56.14% success | 22.30% crit
        4.96 average successes / 13 highest roll
        Breakdown
        5.66% Bestial Failure
        0.17% Total Failure
        38.03% Failure
        ————————————
        33.84% Success
        16.94% Critical Win
        5.36% Messy Critical

With a pool of 9 we have a bit more than 50% to augment our BP.

As you can see, for difficulties 4-5 you need already a high pool. Since we are here, lets give our character a pool of 10, pinnacle of Resolve and Blood Sorcery.

        BP4 to BP5: 12 vs 6

        67.96% success | 33.26% crit
        6.71 average successes / 16 highest roll
        Breakdown
        4.38% Bestial Failure
        0.02% Total Failure
        27.64% Failure
        ————————————
        34.70% Success
        26.35% Critical Win
        6.91% Messy Critical

Seems fine for an elder Tremere right?

We could push our luck beyond BP 5
        BP5 to BP6: 12 vs 7

        Stats for Pool 12 | Hunger 1 | Diff 7
        51.96% success | 31.16% crit
        6.72 average successes / 17 highest roll
        Breakdown
        5.89% Bestial Failure
        0.01% Total Failure
        42.14% Failure
        ————————————
        20.80% Success
        25.02% Critical Win
        6.14% Messy Critical

        So a 50% to go to BP6.

A character with a pool of 10 can indeed go from BP 1 to BP 6. But can it go beyond?

        BP6 to BP7: 13 vs 8

        44.87% success | 31.91% crit
        7.35 average successes / 17 highest roll
        Breakdown
        5.99% Bestial Failure
        0.00% Total Failure
        49.14% Failure
        ————————————
        12.96% Success
        25.33% Critical Win
        6.58% Messy Critical

        BP7 to BP8: 13 vs 9

        29.75% success | 24.36% crit
        7.28 average successes / 16 highest roll
        Breakdown
        7.40% Bestial Failure
        0.00% Total Failure
        62.85% Failure
        ————————————
        5.39% Success
        19.38% Critical Win
        4.98% Messy Critical
