  • [V5] So do Vampire still have great sex? Or no sex?

Clarification: I in two different VTM games one base on V20 Dark Age (Using modified V20 system) and the other using V5 (with some changes).

As I'm reading up more on both systems and their lore (including the meta plot/overarching story), one thing struck me when I was reading up the effects of Blush of Life in V5 and how it affects having sex.

So in V20 and more so in V20 Dark Ages, its stated that vampires can have sex. A Vampire needs to use Blush of Life, but they can do it, even if it pales when compared to the kiss and everything uses blood in place of body fluids. In Dark age V20, it is even written clearly the Vampires can have great sex.

But in V5, it states that unless you have high humanity (8+), a vampire can only "fake" having sex???
Given that most vampires start at 7 humanity or lower, does this means most vampires loses the ability to have sex when they are turned into vampires?

I'm just kinda confused... did something happen in the overarching story that changed the way vampires have/enjoy sex? Was it all a lie?
I haven't read as far as the Camarilla, Anarch books or any other V5 books, so can anyone enlighten me what happened to vampires and their libido in V5?

Nothing changed in the overarching story. In some of the material in previous editions and in Vampire media the idea that Vampires don’t care about sex is present. Basically they care about getting blood more than actually have sex.

In the newest edition they went into that a bit more and put mechanics behind it since hunting is more focused and one method for that hunt is to lure your prey with sec. the goal in the vampires mind is not the sex but the blood.

This is tied to humanity because humanity is a more complex thing in this edition and represents how close to being human or to being a beast you are rather than in prior editions where it was just primarily how moral you were.

This is just a house rule but it's an interpretation of the data. For the vast majority of vampires, the issue of sexual release is not really a concern. Not because vampires can't have sex [they can if they spend blood for it] or that it's not enjoyable [unlike food], it's just that it isn't really important.

"Sex is like pizza, even when it's not good, it's still kinda good."

Well, BLOOD is not like sex or pizza. It's ALWAYS good and ALWAYS better than sex. It is sex and drugs combined. A vampire will usually not care that much about sex versus blood because the former is never going to be as good as the latter. It might be better to COMBINE the two but its an issue of cheese on a burger.

A human bitten by a vampire while aroused will always get a long engaging orgasm level worth of pleasure (if not an actual orgasm). So all vampires are, by nature, Sex Gods if they want to be. Because all vampires can bestow the Kiss.

Except the Giovanni. They're universally shit at vampire sex.

Do you mind if I ask what page in DAV20 it talks about vampire sex? Thanks in advance to anyone who posts it as I'm too lazy to search for it. (hey at least I'm honest)

As a general response I have no idea why the game goes against just about every piece of vampire fiction to say no sex for vampires, but I'd say just ignore it if you don't like it. The vast majority of books movies and tv shows the vampires have sex. It's sort of an odd thing to get rid of and as Gangrel44 mentioned this topic comes up every now and then so people find the mind set of the writers clueless often.

Vampires have sex in my games, no humanity 8 required. Vampires still have a sense of touch, they still have nerve clusters and feel pain. Are all the parts are still there? Then they still enjoy the Horizontal Mambo. They just want that sweet red yum yum juice even more because they need blood and want sex, just like we need food and water and want sex. Humans pick survival over pleasure as well or we wouldn't exist.

Your right, dirinking is survival and pleasure combined for a vampire. Food is a too for a many. I say they enjoy both quite a bit.

Anne Rice is not the only one who said that "vampires can't have sex ever" but she did establish that male vampires have nonfunctional equipment.

I played with this in my vampire novel, Straight Outta Fangton.

              Basically blood=sex and blood drinking=love.

So vampires who were very straight or very gay get screwed up by their new attractions. Also, well, the fact that their only way to express said attraction is potentially harming others.

My equivalent for "herd" is "harems" for vampires.

The game has always owed a disproportionate amount of its influence from Anne Rice. I don't know why. I liked Interview with the Vampire, but it's hardly the end all be all of vampire fiction. The games I run owe more influence to Necroscope, so vampires in my games most certainly enjoy sex.

Ok but I thought the game pretended not to have blatantly ripped off Rice She may not be the only one but they are a steep minority from the books movies and tv shows I've seen. And honestly it's not the Vampire Lestat game.

I don't want to fall into a back and forth and derail anything the last third of what you bolded sums up my feelings about all the rules I disagree with. I think vampires want blood more. Then again I think humans want sex more. Food and water are just more important. You're right for a vampire, blood is like fine dining foodgasms all in one. I do agree it's the greater rush in general, I just think they enjoy both and don't worry too much past that. I don't run X rated roleplay nights and I find it odd vampires cum blood and wouldn't mind reading that passage that I obviously never got around too. Having played since 1st edition I tend to focus on rules of new editions and skip over fluff. I suppose they thought of blood tears and applied that logic to sex. I'm no doctor but I have trouble picturing the plumbing working that way.

I think it's an issue of sexuality being an innately biological thing. The urge to propagate the species is hardwired into animals. But once you're dead... you can't reproduce. And I think as vampires' Humanity fades, the urge for sex starts to fade, too. The other "animal" urges like food and shelter start to take center stage.

In my games, sex is a thing vampires can and do enjoy. I'm just saying that if you're naked and biting someone, it's pretty indistinguishable to a vampire or Kine both.

Ok doing a google search on the topic the question covering sex are in the beginning of both V20 and DAV20 if any lazy person like me cares. I thought VTM was more anti vampire sex maybe I remember that from some other edition. I stumbled across a thread on reddit that talks about the science of body function in general and agree without magic lots of body function is suspect for a vampire. Magic it is then.

Just to take the opposite side if you play VTM20 or DAV20 and don't like vampires gettin busy, just say vampires can't have the sex in your world.

It's had a back and forth relationship with sex.

The LARP had vampires able to have sex-sex first. Can't imagine why.

I feel like vampires aught to have a psuedo-sexual attraction to tasty looking people

I've never felt that storytellers treat sex the way they do because they read it in the book. Either they think vampires have lots of fantastic sex because vampires are just damn sexy things, or they think vampires don't enjoy sex because they don't want to encourage the power-fantasy distractions of liberal minded horny players. The book carries no weight, it's all the storyteller's prerogative. I've played in games that might as well've been a pornographic adventure and games where the storyteller is barely comfortable with feeding.

Personally I think vampires don't get that good feeling from the action, and instead draw pleasure from the power-fantasy/being adored/ the Imitation of life/ Sweaty people with fast heart rates taste better.

I think it's largely up to storytellers.

But yes, in my games, all vampires that can go through a phase of, "Feeding on the yummy sexy people."

                              It's part of growing up.
