  • Advice on a Wyrm Cult idea.

I just thought up a Wyrm cult idea and i want some advice on it. They are called The Followers of Smyth and are a bunch of artists who follow a fringe artist by the name of Herman Smyth, a German national living in America. Smyth believed in expressing art through whats he calls the Emotional Spectrum, embracing all emotions to make a masterpiece. The Followers are made out of the most extreme of his fanbase and embrace one emotion in particular pain. They do things like cut their own bodies, drive nails into their fingers and other stuff in order to make what they think is art. However, even Mr. Smyth rejects these fanatics, calling them loons. The Followers mostly mutilate themselves, but they won't hesitate to do it one people they capture. This has caused many bodies to be found in and around the New England area, with odd patterns cut into their bodies. The Followers have no idea what they are doing is feeding the Wyrm and would freak out if they saw an actual formori in their group. However, Lady Aife enjoys the pain these unknowing servants inflict on themselves and others and would send a bane to protect the cultists if they came under attack.

What do you guys think? Could they fit in a Werewolf Chronicle?

I actually think that they would already be Fomori, they would just be Fomori of subtle Banes. The Fomori would all have the Merit of Hidden Power and the Taint of Derangement (Delusion of Normalcy).

Would Formori be into art? The cult's whole theme is twisted art and formori usually the impulses of banes so i am not sure they would really care about artistic taste.

They care about pain, and anyway banes only start controlling their hosts when their host's permanent Autonomy is lower than the Bane's permanent Willpower. Until then, the artists can do whatever they want.

Fomori are still humans(-ish). They still like things humans do, still enjoy what humans enjoy, etc. Usually with a twisted leaning, but they still enjoy a good meal (of human organs), appreciate fine art (painted in blood on a canvas of flayed skin from a still-living victim), and like to take in a good show (of extreme torture-porn).

I don't think they would even fall on the Garou's radar to be honest. If the Garou attacked everything that was perverse or smelled slightly of the wyrm then would start listening to the Red Talons and wipe out all of humanity. The acts that they are doing, while powering wyrmish creatures, does not innately make them 'of the Wyrm" or a 'Wyrm Cult', that requires that they are actually aware of the Wyrm and warship it. If they were all becoming Fomori I am sure eventually their numbers would get large enough that the Gnawers, Walkers, or both would cleanse them from the cities.

It totally depends on where it is happening. If the killings are occurring too close to a caern or within a protectorate, heads are gonna roll. 'Combat the Wyrm wherever it dwells' is a tall order in this day and age, but it isn't as improbable or impossible as you seem to think it is.

As for whether Fomori feel inclined toward artistry, I would not even bother with that. I think the possessed know the cult is a sham and use it as an excuse to engage in depravity. These things aren't human anymore, and are driven by alien hungers and a deep-seated need to causing suffering. The mutilated bodies are lauded as 'art' by the sycophantic humans, who don't realize that this is just the shredded flesh and organs of those who have been murdered and half-eaten. They are so deluded they can't discern unthinking brutality from high art. For their part, the Fomori are tickled pink that their leftovers are admired and critiqued... and their numbers slowly grow...

I figured that the Artists would be servants of Lady Aife, since they seem to basically worship pain. Also, i think the Garou would probably blame Herman Smyth due to the fact the cult bears his last name. The cult could have a lot of formori in it due to the slayings they do. Also, the artist's leader could be a enticer foromri who kept her love of art but is using these insane artists to empower banes.

I think that the Fomori would have the Taints of Addiction (Weekly; Torture) [-3], Derangement (Masochism) [-3], and Urge (Torture) [-3] and the Powers of Mind Rape [6] and Nightmare Command [3]. The Powers would allow them to torture their victims without leaving evidence until their victim's consent to becoming their next work of art.

Those are nice skills Do you think they would have any human artists left. Also, would the Garou go after Herman Smyth, the artist whose name is plastered all over the cult, because of the fact the cult is named after him?

Yes, you notice that nothing is particularly lethal, just very unpleasant. Mind Rape allows them to gain information for psychological torture while Nightmare Control erodes permanent Willpower. Eventually, the artist is possessed by a bane, allowing their community to grow. As for Smyth, they may go after him because they would assume that he is the leader. It would not be first time that the Wyrm caused the death of an innocent man.
