  • Pentex and Religion.

how would pentex act towards religion, I could see them working with religious fanatics, though probaly trying to keep any connection with the likes of westboro, or al queda, heavily concealed.

A subtler thing to do... is work with Televangelists, to show mass marketed spirituality so people will be jaded when they encounter the real thing.

Does it make money and not rock the boat? Then they promote it. Does it cost them money and other resources? Out the door it goes.

Pentex itself probably isn't in the prosperity gospel racket themselves, and buddying up too closely to televangelists isn't quite their style, but if a religion preaches that you should work hard and not question the world unless it's to try and beat it back to a status quo that's beneficial to capitalism, then they'd probably hire a lot from that pool for a number of managerial positions.

The last thing that Pentex wants is honest people who actually believe in the principles of their faith. That type of person might actually turn whistle blower and cost them money. They would probably be perfectly fine with people who follow the prosperity gospel though (the type that believe that people are wealthy because God wants them to be wealthy and wealth is a sign of virtue). The greed preached by those people fits well within the plans of Pentex and probably makes them more vulnerable to becoming Fomori.

Yeah, it's pretty much "how can we make a buck off of this?" Mostly along the lines of the soft-spiritualism fad of the year nonsense. Do It Yourself Kabbalah that actually invites bane possession. Cheap Wiccan guidebooks that might create some sort of Rite/Sorcery using fomori breed. Secret Bible codes that lead to blasphemous insanity producing 'insights'. That sort of thing.

What is tolerance? It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other's folly. That is the first law of nature.
        Voltaire, "Tolerance" (1764)

Why would they blow a whistle on things that they want to keep happening, say, to hasten the end of the world and ascend to heaven earlier, for argument's sake?

Most religious traditions feel that you are responsible for the suffering that you witness if you had the power to do something, so truly faithful people of most religions would be driven to report abusive and criminal activity. Of course, the majority of such people would leave the employment of Pentex long before they discovered anything truly horrible.

It would be a good story idea though, a true believer discovers abuses while working a temp job at a Pentex subsidiary and, when she tries to blow the whistle, she is attacked by fomori. When she is rescued by Garou, she offers them her information in exchange for protection. Heck, if she possesses True Faith (and/or is a lost Kinfolk), she might even be useful.

Of course, one of the major religious traditions in the Western World has a tendency to also view suffering as a potentially good thing, so it isn't that clear cut.
