  • 5th Edition New Breeds

So here we go, with VTM 5th ED in the works that mean WtA is not far behind so to say. I am starting this thread to see what ideas we can come with. So new Breeds which it has been stated that Gaia can create new Breeds of Shifters if needed. So I going to set some ground rules for this thread.

    Rules:
    1. Must be a total new breed. No new wolves/cats/snake etc...
    2. Must have a job given by Gaia
    3. Must have a vulnerability Gold/Silver/normal regeneration w/o rage etc....
    4. Please include any special abilities such as gifts/forms/natural abilities

    Koala's.
    The Imagination/Creativity of Gaia
They have 3 forms. Their Crinos-equivalent is dreamed up similar to Mokole.
Vulnerabilities to both Silver and Gold since they honor both Luna and Helios (they sleep so much, I can't see them being favored by one over the other).
Not sure about any special abilities, as it's been a long time since I gave this any thought.

I had once began planning on having Gaia distribute various aspects of her personality around the world. So her laughter (the Nuwisha) were tucked away in N.America. I hadn't gotten very far in the thought experiment to come up with others. Maybe Penguins for something since they're some of the only animals to be found around Antarctica.

Werewolf favors dangerous carnivores, so you might want to go with leopard seals instead of penguins.

See I have to agree with concepts like this because Australia would be missing a lot of the mammal breeds (Bears, Cats, Auroch, Boar, Nuwisha/Kitsune), and well Australian Garou are the only things covered.

Fair enough. Like I said, I hadn't gotten terribly far passed my idea for the Koalas. I just kind of planned on tucking a new Fera away on each continent.

But I didn't want them to have a "standard" crinos. And what with them being high all of the time, I though "The imagination (or creativity) of Gaia fit". And having another Breed piece together their war form was appealing to me.

And with them possibly being extinct (or close enough to it to not matter), that also helps with why no new Breeds have been created. Maybe their last big hurrah was the Kitsune.

It doesn't have to be directly stated in order for that to be how shifting breeds come about. It isn't like all shifting breeds were born at one time, they emerged as needed over eons. Supposedly the Ananasi are the sole survivors of an age when insectile and arachnid shifters ruled. Mokole were around before the mammalian changing breeds, and then circumstances in the Tellurian necessitated other types of werebeasts. The Kitsune only recently popped up... seems like there is lots of evidence for Gaia creating warriors/healers/whatever as need be. Perhaps, if she is given time, new beings suited to the age of the Apocalypse would arise...

The Samsa have been hinted at interesting Cockroach as potential children... they are only a mockery breed, but I think the patron of the Glasswalkers can read the writing on the wall; Cockroach knows that the Apocalypse is going to be terrible. In the aftermath of the destruction, perhaps the evolutionary clock will be turned back... maybe arthropod shifters will be needed once again, replacing current dominant lifeforms who are rendered extinct.

I propose the Were-River-Dolphin of the Amazons, known as the "Encantado" by the locals.

                      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encantado_(mythology)

They would no doubt fill the roles that the Nuwisha Take in North America, as they are tricksters who come from a perfect under-river realm of never-ending joy, and come into our world to understand pain, sadness and imperfection. They reproduced by seducing people who stay out too close to the rivers at night by taking the guise of sexually alluring men/women. It would be safe to assume their culture is exclusively made up of Ragabash and/or Galliards.

The one catch to spotting a potential Encantado: They cannot conceal the blowholes of their Cetacean Nature, and hence ALWAYS wear a hat in Homid form to conceal it.

Their status as bogeymen of river dwelling Amazonian Cultures is so iconic that fear of going beside the rivers at night is a common local phobia to this day.

Vulnerabilities? Due to lust/seduction/ hedonism being their second nature, they (similar to the Toreador of "Vampire") would porbably need to spend willpower to resist any and all temptation to indulge in carnal/physical pleasures (be it music/art/gourmet food/alcohol/drugs/sex)

How's that for a starting point?

                        Owls - Riddle masters

They haven't. This is just supposed to be a fun thought experiment.

I think the idea of Dolphin Changers is a fun one. These sound a lot more like Changelings than Fera though.
I think they should also have a distinct role, and not just be Nuwisha, but in the rivers of South America.

How about letting the Encantado be the "official" Bards of Gaia?
The Mokole remember the past. The Nuwisha teaches wisdom through painful and sarcastic humor.
Dolphins articulate joy through intricate dance and elaborate song, and the Encantado hail from realms of Unending Joy.
So why not let the Weredolphins be "The Joy of Gaia", who give Her Children much-needed hope by reminding them the importance of Joy through music, song and dance?

Horses? Defenders of Gaia? Their Gifts would focus on detecting corruption and protecting the natural world from the corrupted until the other Fera deal with the corruption. Their Human Kinfolk have maintained ranches for 'feral' horses so that the wild Animal Kinfolk can hide in plain sight. They are also inexplicably fond of archery and are the source of the legends of centaurs, though their hybrid form is a two metric ton/4 meter tall humanoid horse that gains +6 Strength, +1 Dexterity, +6 Stamina, and +1 Perception.
