  • is Shattered Dreams good?

I saw there's a 6-day sale on DriveThruRPG that includes some W20 books. So I would like to know whether WtA players think Shattered Dreams is worth the money.

I backed CB20 and was so upset by the low quality of the book that I became completely disenchanted with Werewolf in general for a long while. I made the mistake of paying for a book before knowing what was in it, and I wish I hadn't. So I want to ask if Shattered Dreams has similar problems? I mean things like Camazotz never existing in Africa for no explained reason, Mokole rewritten to be on a crusade to eradicate humanity Red Talon-style, writers mixing up the Auspices and Aspects of the Fera, etc.

How common are typos? How much does it contradict previous canon, or ignore real-world information about their animals? How respectfully are non-Western cultures written? How much of the book is copy-pasted from Revised or 2E books? Is the art good, decent, or terrible?

What about the hardcover POD edition, standard color: is the book sturdy or does it fall apart easily?

I am extremely literal-minded and always write very literally. If I don't say something explicitly, please never assume I implied it. The only exception is if I try to joke.

As far as I'm concerned, no. Shattered Dreams is very good and discusses the Bunyip is a very good amount of details, as it does any other time streams. It is a time travel story, so take that into consideration.

I know it's got 2 time travel campaigns in it, but doesn't it also describes each time period, even the Age of Kings?
I've skimmed the draft from the KS, but that only shows so much.

I loved the Mokole and Rokea in 2E, and hate how PGttCB pissed on the Mokole. So I'd like to ask how the Age of Kings and Age of Sleep are treated. Is there an actual civilization of man-sized dinosaur-mortals in the Mesozoic, and a long Age of Sleep between that and the creation/evolution of humans? Is [spirit-influenced] evolution allowed as compatible with Gaia's existence? Is Mokole Mnesis caused by midichlorians/mitochondria, or all lies and hallucinations?

I can’t speak to its efficacy as a module given that I have virtually no faith left in White Wolf modules after these years but it’s lack of being definitively canon does give it more room to breath and have fun I’m sure.

I generally use it as a historical book, though it’s canon is variable depending on ST feeling, but I think that it’s sections about the various time periods and wars are valuable if only as historical summaries of the Changing Breed timeline, though if one didn’t want to know about Changing Breed history for its own sake or want to run a historical Changing Breed chronicle, I’d be hard pressed to justify the purchase to them.

It tends to avoid getting much into the details of any specific human culture, preferring to focus on the development of Changing Breed history and culture and I think it does a reasonably interesting job of that.

Ok yeah, I do want to know more about the Changing-Breeds and the early history. That's my main reason for considering the book.
I am trying to find out more specific things about the book too. Is anyone able to answer?

How common are typos? Haven't noticed any.
How much does it contradict previous canon, or ignore real-world information about their animals? It doesn't particularly, its kinda down on the Ananasi as a whole but thats easily reduced to taste. Not too much conflict with RL facts....though the Khara entry is covered better in Savage Age.
How much of the book is copy-pasted from Revised or 2E books? Little to none.

            Mine is still fine

How are the Age of Kings, and Age of Sleep, and Mnesis treated? Well. I think.
Is there an actual civilization of man-sized dinosaur-mortals in the Mesozoic, and a long Age of Sleep between that and the creation/evolution of humans? yes
Is [spirit-influenced] evolution allowed as compatible with Gaia's existence? If I understand what your getting at, yes.
Is Mokole Mnesis caused by midichlorians/mitochondria? Not that I recall.
Is Mokole Mnesis mostly just lies and hallucinations?[/QUOTE] Nope.....theres some details that get messed up due to time spans involved
