  • Jadr Kingdom questions

First I will make it known that my knowledge of WtO is limited to 1st ed when it first came out.

Now with that said, I get to my questions. In Honk Kong by Night, there is a Kuei Jin akuma, allied with Tou Mu. Well it says in there that this Akins has made a deal with the Jade Kingdom to help further its goals in the Skinlands. Now what kind of goals would Wraiths have in the skinlands? And why would they ally with s Kuei jin?
Second, would a Wraith willingly bind its self to a Artifact made by a Kuei jin? And if not then is binding to a Artifact worse then soul forging?

To understand their aims, it helps to know that the Jade Kingdom's sovereign is the ghost of Qin Shihuangdi, and he got in the afterlife what he didn't quite manage to get in life - lasting dominion and rule over ghosts. Maybe. There's an implication that a Neverborn might be wearing his likeness like an ectoplasm suit, given that Oda Nobunaga's ghost faced him in a duel during WW2 and cut Qin in half... only for a giant pale jade dragon thought vanquished by the alleged Yu Huang early in his rule of the dead emerged and started wrecking shit, Nobunaga's ghost being the first one to go. The official line is that he can control the Neverborn Lung Wang, and you know, those imperial censors would never lie about something so important, wink wink nudge nudge say no more.

So ghosts in the region are going to be involved in a mostly quiet war over antiquities thought unimportant, which are actually fetters, along with potential threats to the families of either side that still reside among the quick, Rebels against Yu Huang are going to typically try to extort supplies from an imperial official, while the other side is primarily going to perpetrate reprisal attacks to crush resistance to the ghostly emperor (and probably get a supply of ghostly jade bricks in the process), and occasionally attempt to suss out rebel plans and hideouts to send in the Immortal Guard to wipe the floor with them.

As for making a kind of wraith fetish, that's not usually something within the bounds of what fetish makers can do (elemental and inauspicious instruments use living spirits), but if it is possible, it's way less binding and permanent than soulforging, since anything that can break the fetish will release the spirit. The existence of the Inhabit Arcanos, however, tends to suggest that it's the usual way for how wraiths stow away in objects.

Ok, all that was very informative. But what I am specifically talking bout is in Hong Kong. And a Akuma Kuie jin that has allied with the empire who has some kind of plans that deal with the skinlamds. So what I am wondering bout is what can of plans could Wraiths have for th skinlands.....long term plans?

And from my understanding of Kuei jin Artifacts....while basically Fetishes....are also made with Yin Spirits, aka Wraiths....

Sorry, blanked out there for a moment; Tou Mu's presentation in KotE is lifted entirely from D&D, so it takes a bit longer to get over that and contemplate things. She's typically extra-intent on getting back at Gui Ren and making their existences unpleasant as possible, so it probably involves using ghostly influence on mortals to up-end the local court, which being as south-facing as it is in the Quincunx, is hence dedicated to war and social change. Without the Hungry Dead where they are, their holdings are going to have sparse defenses, which means more corrupted Dragon Nests for Tou Mu and more Haunts for the official use of Yu Huang's forces.

Sometimes. I checked in DBDT just now, and they are an option after all.

Wow so sorry bout all the typos. I am having to type this on my phone at work....and I have big thumbs.

Ok, I am starting to get a idea on what kinds of plans The Yellow Springs could have.

I thought they was a options. And so a Wraith that is fleeing soul forging would indeed gladly agree to bein bound to a Artifact (and/or Fetish).

Thanks Saur, your input has helped.
