    Ask The Deadguy

Hi, folks. Rich Dansky, Wraith 20th developer here. I just wanted to pop in and say hello, and let you know that I'll be on the forums going forward for questions, updates, and all sorts of other goodness. So by all means, say hello, ask questions, tell me what you want to see in Wraith going forward, and generally keep the conversation going. In return, I promise to answer questions (eventually - the day job is kind of time consuming), listen, post updates, and share fearsome anecdotes of old-school Wraith development.

    It's good to be back.

This is the chant of the Greek Choir of Wraith.

He's probably hibernating after all the blood, sweat, tears, pathos and angst that went into creating Wr20 and fighting against the Wraith Curse. Charon knows he deserves it regardless of the final product.

I would love to see the 20th Edition of Wraith explore this idea in an guide. It would be a tricky process, but the benefits are pretty good if it's pulled off correctly.

The established atmosphere of Wraith probably wouldn't hit home in quite the same way if everyone in the Underworld could furnish and build in in a way that resembles familiar industrial processes made weird (assuming that we're talking about Naturae spirits and that ghosts would, say, try to make planks out of tree spirits or the like) rather than having to turn others like yourself into the raw material to make anything that you wanted to have. Even if practically no one knew about it, or if it was difficult and costly, it seems like it would be a bit of a spoiler for some of the ideas behind the game.

Umbra Revised briefly touches on the Dark Kingdom of Wire ending up in the Atrocity Realm after the business with the relic nukes, but they don't seem to be the type to do much soulforging. There are some allusions made to some essential differences between ephemera and plasm, but they are maddeningly non-specific.

Then again, going by that reasoning, one could almost say that anti-matter is just an analogue of matter...

If you can, what about chimera? Or the spirits of the Digital Web? What about a mage who has succumbed to too long a sojourn in the Umbra? Then, even further... Instinctively, I can't say one can't soulforge, say a Euthanatos on their Agama (or any other living soul that wandered into the lands of the dead), or the even more rare mage that manages a bodily transition into the Dark Umbra, but.... maybe? How about a Shadow Strider? Or a Keremet Adhene?

And, if you can, what would such a soulforging be like? (Besides, for most of the above, absolutely, awfully gruesome...) Would the result be "normal" soulsteel or something else?

Are their any rules about soulforging plasmids or a differentiation for soulforging Specters?

Too much longer and it'll be the 25th Anniversary Edition.

If I remember correctly, human souls only.

You're in good company: the publisher originally made that mistake. Fortunately, they've taken this opportunity of the *ahem* 20th Anniversary gamelines★ to correct this error.

    K, glad I didn't miss it.

And, yes, how silly of me to forget that Wraith is last among the first.

Not joking, not prying, not complaining. I've got some tricky things in my brain that can mess with my memory. I just pulled C20 off DTRPG yesterday.

Did I miss Wr20 coming out? I'm a backer, so I've seen the Kickstarter messages about the delays. Just don't remember the last thing I saw, so just checking.
