Theyre the most out and out powerful splats right? I know power's not everything, but unless they're really holding the Idiot Ball, they're gonna be both the big guns and the specialist agents against whatever this contagion turns out to be.

Plus, haven't people been grumbling for years that the difference in both subtle and overt power levels between some splats made crossover really hard? This could fix that if they do it well

If you know comics, you might look more at the Blackest Night than Infestation, where people have to work together to solve the problem. This doesn't seem like the kind of situation where a mage can just Life 4 it away, or a werewolf or vampire can just ignore it, for one reason or another.

It says it's going to 'warp the...supporting blocks' of supernatural characters, which seems like how some of the 'balance' is going to be done. Though the problem with crossover is more with thematics than power, as that can just be overcome with Experience. The story context has always been the big thing. If you have a crossover group, you generally have most characters completely separate from the supernatural setting of their gameline, in favor of one other characters setting.

There is an entire small book dedicated to a Z splat collection already, and there is several publically available Bloodlines on the blog itself. I am skeptical.

Back to the plot: I'm hoping the Contagion is something more like the Virus from Antagonists-going full zombie apocalypse is its "panic" condition, it prefers to live as asymptomatic carriers and spread as far as possible.

In fact, I'm hoping that the Contagion is the new name for the Virus-it fits better, and its very biology (a living meme that feeds on urban legends) makes it a natural rival and uneasy ally for...everyone (want someone scared or lore to be made more public? The Contagion's got you covered. Want to remain secret or to keep everyone calm? The Contagion is your worst nightmare).

If I got my hopes up for a hard look at overlapping thematics and get a fucking zombie book I'm gonna throw myself out a window.

I doubt the reasons to group up and explanations for how to do it will only be in a case of the contagion, it would be pointless in regards to crossover in general. Rose said they were providing context for crossover from the beginning. There's no reason to believe the interactions will fail past said contagion.

Though it's entirely possible the Contagion itself is a zombie outbreak.

the brochure said the contagion chronicle kickstarter is coming in 2018. I'm hoping the writing holds off till Changeling, Geist, Hunter and mummy 2e and deviant are all into editing so that all the lines' lore & rules are available for the developer's reference

Um, I'm looking at the brochure now:

The exact words are that it "threatens the fabric of our world" whenever it manifests. As in "alters Infrastructure". In ways the players are implicitly allowed to weaponize.

I don't think it's a plague that affects the people in it. More like what happens when reality gets the sniffles. It also explicitly affects existing antagonists.

Admittedly, this sounds like the Abyss, but I think we may be seeing a Lower Depths incursion here (which is something that involves more gamelines, as the Strix are explicitly invaders from there).

I'd expect there will be reasons from a variety of sources. Every line has things 'Contagion' can be linked to. If it was just a reality-shaking thing Cataclysm would make more sense.

Vampire has the Plague Angel, founder of the Morbus. Werewolf has the Fire-Touched and specifically the Lodge of the Fevered Light and idigam. Mage has its Abyss. Changeling the True Fae, Prometheans lost lineages and the Centimani and on and on. You don't need to go to other worlds to find apocalypses.

It still sniffs a little too much of superhero team-up for me. I wanted organic reasons why the lines would crossover, not some brand new thing that justifies it.

We'll see once the book actually exists in any meaningful form, but I'm not in love with this so far.

Oh man, yes, I would love if Contagion would be The Virus from Antagonists book! I just re-read it and it sounds ssoooo awesome to be used – it was on of those early days Horror ( or Ephemeral Beings? ) forgotten later in the whole 1E nWoD/CoD line. To ease discussion, small quote on the Virus here:

Background: The Virus evolved alongside humanity, drawing power from cautionary tales and fables. When people talk about their fears, trying to make sense of unnatural or coping with loss, tragedy or terror, the Virus grows stronger. Like a true virus, it infects as quickly as possible, replicating itself exponentially. Unlike a virus, which kills the cells it’s invades, the Virus becomes sentient as it draws power from humanity, giving it ability to reason and plan. Throughtout most of humanity history, the Virus was restricted to the small pockets of humanity; but now, with advent of mass communication, has become gigantic, intelligent entity. It knows of supernatural creatures of the world through the stories it hears through those it infected. It realized that those creatures hunt and kill humans. While Virus doesn’t have any feelings for humanity that could legitimately be described as ‘compassion’ or ‘love’, it does realize that the stories that humanity trade in fear are what allows it to survive. As such, it works to expose the supernatural in a rather blunt attempt to nudge people in trading stories.
He sounds very much as Abyss-changed Goetia, or something like that. Best it works to ‘unmask’ all and every supernatural monster out there. He probably even make a big hit on Integrity in general mortal population…

Other idea for Contagion could be The Hunger from the same book ( and from Boston Unveiled ) – but it would much more classical ‘cannibal mutation plague’. Still, it nice a cool supernatural disease. But I’m all hand in for it being The Virus, it’s just this awesome idea!

My guess would be something similar to the core book: the front half is an examination of crossovers between each line, talking about how to blend their themes, maybe providing some mechanics that help ease the combination. And then the back half is a global crossover chronicle that can be used with any combination of games.

Soooo... Does anyone else here play Mind's Eye Society LARPs? We just finished a big crossover chronicle called Combined: the Accord. The description of this book sounds very much like it.

That said, Accord was one of my favorite games to ever play in, so I am 100% in for a tabletop version!

I've been looking to get into it. I know of a local one in my town, I've just mostly been trying to work up the courge

But this Combined: The Accord sounds fun. I'll have to check it out.
