    Storypath for CoD

    I have been planning on using Storypath for Chronicles of Darkness (Vampire the Requiem, Mage the Awakening, Werewolf the Forsaken). If this plan works out then I may move on to Exalted, we will see.

    Some of my reasons are the number of dice a CoD splat can throw around, it becomes more about dice and less about the story. For example a BP 2 or 3 vampire using Physical Intensity and a fighting style merit to sac his defense and add it all to his attack. Not counting frenzy and other items become a game of Rollplaying instead of Roleplaying. I love the concept of Exalted however I am not a fan of the loads of dice you are throwing to make it happen.

    My approach will be the start with the basic character building, add on templates and then see how to make those templates work. I am open to feedback and collaborative assistance. What I am not open to is "why would you do that", or "that is a terrible idea", or "you can't do that because".

    Best regards

    This is aStorypath Character Sheet for Vampire the Requiem. This sheet was a special request produced by MrGone who has crafted some of the most amazing Storyteller Sheets over the years. The next step is interactive for formfill.

    Your feedback is welcome.

    Just wanted to post an update. After many months of long hours and real life work I was able to return and focus on this project a bit.

    Please see the linked files.

    First Storypath Vampire the Requiem Character
    Storypath Character Creation with Splat Templates

    Both files are rough drafts and works in progress.
    There are items not let set, items being waffled over, so on and so forth.
    Integrity, Humanity, Harmony, Wisdom I am not ready to discard them and need to Storypath them.
    Your feedback is welcome.

    Several of my design and modification goals are:
    * One storypath character creation process only altered in the template section by the template and/or setting.
    - For example if Scions are more powerful than this can be boosted in the template section.
    * One storypath ruleset across all splats/setting, example Scale would be the same but used less or more in different settings.
    * Edges are available in all settings
    * A system that cross back and forth between CoD (VtR,MtA, CtL, WtF), EX3 and Storypath,
    * Keep modify only the things from the non-Storypath systems/setting that feel absolutely needed.

    Best regards

    Aptitudes are themes or categories of powers like Biokinesis, Electrokinesis, Psychokinesis, Telepathy, Vitakiensis, etc

    Each aptitude has 3 modes, each focused on a specific aspect of the aptitude. In first edition pychokinesis had Cryokinesis (cold), Pyrokinesis (heat) , and Telekinesis (force). Modes are from 1-5 maybe 1-6

    Psi Rating is your overall strength in Psychic power (the closest comparison would be the CoD supernatural stats like Blood Potency, Gnosis, Primal Urge)? PSI ranges from 2-7.

    I am going from memory right now.

    Best regards

    Spellcasting Roll = (Gnosis/2 RndUp) + 1 + Arcana

    This sets a range of 2-6 dice similiar to Psi score plus Mode (Arcana).

    So Gnosis
    01 = 2d + Arcana dice
    02 = 2d + Arcana dice
    03 = 3d + Arcana dice
    04 = 3d + Arcana dice
    05 = 4d + Arcana dice

    Tier 3 (Target Number 7, Max Attribute 6)
    06 = 4d + Arcana dice
    07 = 5d + Arcana dice
    08 = 5d + Arcana dice

    Tier 3 (Target Number 7, Max Attribute 7)
    09 = 6d + Arcana dice
    10 = 6d + Arcana dice

    Yantras will be enhancements

    I am considering the same thing for VtR and WtF

    Disciplines
    (Blood Potency / 2 RndUp) + 1 + Discipline Dice

    Gifts
    (Primal Urge/ 2 RndUp) + 1 + Aspect or Gift Dice

    This would be a method similiar to Trinity or Mage.

    I could also use a method more similiar to Scion or Exalted, Werewolf with Attribute and Skill dropping the third set of dice from the Supernatural Stat (Gnosis, Primal Urge, Blood Potency). I like this version less.

    One of my thoughts is using Scale for vampire Celerity, Resilience and Vigor. Maybe vampires Physical Intensity.

    And I definitely want feedback.

    Just be warned I have never met a system I was not willing to tinker with.

    Best regards
    Sadly it's hard for me to hive feedback when I don't yet own the books with psionics in them. I have a hard time envisioning how it would turn out in play. Am I correct to assume that Psi score and Mode are separate stats that you start with and can level up? In that case it cn flow a lot easier as would a normal mage game. Using this system do you have an example of how a mage could cast a spell with spell factors, yantras, mudras and all?

    While I disagree with the premise (more dice means "rollplaying" of roleplaying), this looks super interesting and you've clearly put a lot of work in it. I'm wildly unfamiliar with Storypath, but Scion has been on my To Read list for a while now. Once I'm able to dig into the system, I'll be sure to circle back and see what feedback I can give.

    Looks rad, though. Good work.

    Storypath is 'sister' (?) game engine to Storytelling System, on what Chronicles of Darkness run. The both share a lot of similarities to that extent that I treat Storypath as as 'sorta 3E' of Storytelling System.

    Storypath is Onyx Path Publishing in-house system, so they are not restricted in usage of it as much as they are with Storytelling engine ( that is, de facto, owned by White Wolf ). Games ( and their forums ) that run on Storypath - Trinity Continuum ( various S-F ), Scion ( you play descendent of god ), They Came From Beneath the Sea ( 1950s comedic horror ) and Dystopia Rising: Evolution ( post-app with supermutants and zombies ).

    Here is Storypath preview - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product...System-Preview

    This reddit came in depth about similarities and differences between two game systems - https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comment...rypath_system/

    CoD to Storypath

    Please note that I have never found a grapple system that I enjoy as both a player and GM. They range from D&D 3.5 & EX3 (Overly complicated), to D&D 5.0 (Vanilla Bland), to Trinity 1E & CoD (Almost there but whats with changing initiative – oh my head hurts). So here is hoping that Storypath becomes the one! Does anyone have any grapple systems that they really enjoy.

    GRAPPLE

    Declare a Grapple Maneuver (Instant)
    • See Grapple Maneuvers below
    Start a Grapple (+1DR)
    • Usually Dex + Close Combat vs Defense
    • One hand free is required
    • Extra successes add to the Control Roll
    Opposed Control Roll
    • Str + Close Combat
    • Active Player (Attacker)
      • Wins (Maneuver success with extra successes)
      • Ties (Both grapplers struggle with no result)
      • Loses (Defender escapes reflexively on his next turn)
    Grappling Condition
    • While grappling both characters suffer …
      • Defense -2 vs other attackers
      • Cannot use Mixed Actions
      • Weapon attacks in a grapple suffer size as a penalty (CoD Size) ??
      • No movement without the drag maneuver
      • External attacks may force a new control roll

    Grapple (Continue a grapple)
    • Break Free, Escape, Release (reflexive)
    • Control Weapon or Object
      • Draw a weapon or gain control of an opponents
    • Damage/Savage with…
      • Bite, Claws, or Natural Weapons
      • Bite & Feed (Vampires)
      • Melee Weapons (Weapon Size as a penalty)
      • Ranged Firearms (Weapon Size as a penalty)
      • Unarmed Attacks
    • Disarm Weapon or Object
      • Must success at control weapon first
    • Drag +1DR
    • Hold in Place (Neither may apply Defense vs incoming attacks)
      • Choke Hold (Merit)
      • Restrain/Immobilize +1DR (Tilt)
        • Apply Cuffs/Manacles +1 DR (Control + s>Str)
    • Hold at Bay
      • Gun to head, hand over mouth, knife at neck
      • Take Cover/Human Shield (Breaking Point)
    • Reverse Grapple (Reflexive)
    • Throw/Slam/Drop
      • Drop Prone (both go prone, no damage, grapple ends)
      • Slam (+1DR, 1B/L per success, grapple ends)
      • Throw (+1DR, 1B/L per success, grapple ends, close range)
