  • 1001 CofD Plot Hooks

This thread is a bunch of plot hooks for the Chronicles of Darkness setting that don't feel like they go into any of the other plot hook lists on this site for the setting.
Sorry if that's a bit of a ramble & you have to read it a few times to understand it. I know I would.

    1) A psychokinetic(or other Gifted) PI has come to a sleepy seaside town that has a cult worshipping a Thing That Should Not Be, & population of Brineborn are also in the area. And then there's the case that brought the PI here in the first place. Add additional player characters as needed.

      2) A motley group of supernaurals turn up in the city. They're a mix of vampires, werewolves, mages, & others. You approach the ones of your supernatural type & ask what is going on, what's up with this group.
They're a squad from something military called Zero Company, & they've got leave which they intend to enjoy.

        3) You're a member of a supernatural group/society/culture/etc. A fairly normal one, & everything's going swimmingly at the moment.
Suddenly, two objects from the stars crash down in your area's effective backyard. At first it looks like a pair of extraterrestrial starships, both occupied during the "landing".
Then it's discovered that the first starship held a bunch of extraterrestrial supernatural creatures. The second starship held a group of hunters from an extraterrestrial species hunting the occupants of the first starship.
        This is massive.

          4) The vampires of the Ordo Dracul have opened a 24 hour Elysium and informed the rest of the supernatural community that their welcome to attend, discussions about making it safe for everyone are currently underway.

            6) Did you know, that Donald Trump has the power make duplicates of himself?
That's how he's managed to become the POTUS & the Brirish Prime Minister, at the same time!

(This is referencing how similar Donald Trump & Boris Johnson are, that I can see.)

              7. A local LARP group has started organizing in a nearby park/bar. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that they aren't LARPers, they are what they are pretending to be and using the game as a cover for their group's activities.

                8) Vampire attacks have increased in regularity in the city. Further investigation reveals that such attacks are not Vampires, but other supernatural creatures with similar M.O.s. Such as Cryptids created from Bats, Imperatives that increase the thirst of blood in Mortals, Bloodbather Immortal, etc... These creatures all seem independent from one another except for the fact that they are attracted to one particular blood bank.

                  9) A new school has opened. On paper it's for troubled teens. In reality it's for teens of supernatural leanings & teens related to individuals of supernatural leanings. You or a close relative has gotten accepted into this new school.

                    10) There's something sinister in the air & everyone agrees that there's a great threat approaching the city.
But everyone also agrees that they aren't going down without a fight.
Truces are called between practically everyone as the wolves, the vampires, the hunters, the mages, & all the rest make what preparations they can.
There's a good chance this will cause the masquerade to be blown wide open, but there are worse ways for that to happen.

                      11) A travelling priest claims to be able to "cure" people of supernatural "afflictions". More specifically, the priest appears to be removing the downsides of the various supernatural "afflictions" whilst leaving behind any powers they've gotten as a consequence of the "affliction".
Some consider this awesome & seek out the priest at the first opportunity. Others are offended, because it goes against what they believe in.
And then the cured don't leave the priest, they find something about his presence to be safe.
Then someone decides to go back to their family. Along the way, they notice they're being followed. It's the priest & all his followers. And then the one that left the priest discovers that they need regular interactions with the priest, or the cure wears off.

                        12) Not long ago, something caused a small number of doors to other, realms, realities, worlds, levels of existence.
Your superiors, whoever they might be, have ordered you to claim one of these doors for the good of the organization to which you belong. This will, of course, involve fighting off all other potential claimants of the door whoever or whatever they may be, by any means necessary. Any questions?

                          13) People report seeing a pack of shadowy, aggressive canines on the streets, late at night. No one can figure out where the canines disappear to during the day. And then, someone notices that the pack is growing...
The canines are a pack of Beasts of Bethlehem that have been following something across the country.

                            14) Some young willworker cast a very strange spell, dying in the process. No one figure out if the spell did what it was supposed to, but it's obvious that it did something. And what that something is, is that it brought a randomized bunch of monsters from a tabletop game bestiary (D&D, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, 13th Age, CthulhuTech, etc.) to life.
At least there's a guidebook on how to kill, corral or otherwise subdue these things.

                              15) Alien Invasion! And, due to distaste for the idea of "evil aliens invading because their evil aliens", I've developed some reasons behind the invasion.
                              ● One of those deep space probes that Earth sent out was misinterpreted to be a declaration of war. They've come to say they've accepted.
                              ● This isn't strictly speaking an invasion. Several of their criminals have been hiding out here, using our (rather backwater by their standards) planet as a refuge. The (highly religious) aliens have also determined that there isn't any real people on our planet besides the criminals, so don't see any reason to hold back.
                              ● The aliens' society is divided into Houses, some more powerful than others. Power is determined by how much you can hold onto, by how much you can acquire & subjugate, & by what it precisely is that the House is holding onto. One or two Houses have noticed all the power (kindred, Uratha, willworkers, hunters with their Endowments, etc.) that can be found on our world, & have decided to add that to their power bases.
                              ● The aliens are criminals that have decided our planet looks perfect to build a stronghold on.
                              ● The aliens have learned how to absorb DNA, adding it to their genetic wealth, & then use that DNA to create stuff like specialized workers & to augment their soldiers. There is a lot of interesting DNA on Earth (various supernatural creatures, whether this supernatural "DNA" can be added to the genetic bank is another question).
                              ● They're religious nutjobs, believing that all must convert to their faith & experience eternal paradise, or perish & face eternal damnation.
                              ● They've been here for years, quietly living their lives. Recent events have pisses them off, so their going to take over & run things so much better.
                              ● They have a very limited diet. In fact, they only eat one plant-like thing. Our planet is swimming in a substance (you decide) that is very nutritional to this plant-like thing. They can make the entire planet into nothing but a garden for their food.
                              ● The aliens desire a slave race. After knocking us back to the stone age, we'll do.
                              ● They look at this planet & see their version of Hell, a hotbed of ambition, malice, rapacity, & zealotry. These foul, demonic creatures must not join the intergalactic races!
