  • [Fun] Write a Story Seed Based on a Topic said by the Previous

    So simple premise.

You try to make a story seed out of a single phrase or set of words that the poster above you made. Doesn't have to be anything serious. You can play loose with it however you wish.

After you complete your entry, you suggest a topic for the next person.

    I'll begin...

    Old Ice Cream Truck

The thing just creeps you out. Every night you hear an icecream truck jingle going down your road... except that whatever company that did that in your city up and died ages ago. No idea what it's about, not a ghost or spirit according to your usual problem solvers, but you're not really sure. But maybe... just maybe, there is actually an ice cream truck going down your street every night. So then, what kind of flavors do they offer.

    Giovanni's Pizzaria

Giovanni's is a family owned pizzaria that has been in the neighborhood as long as anyone can remember. The place shows its age, and has an authentic, lived in quality that the locals appreciate. The food is always excellent, and the sauces used in the pizza and pastas are this side of addictive. More observant folks will notice that people can be seen coming and going from the restaurant in the dead of night and most locals assume some degree of mafia involvement (although nothing could be further from the truth). The hisil for several blocks around the restaurant is unusually quiet, and weaker spirits refuse to enter (and won't discuss why voluntarily).

You don't ever recall installing that door in your house. And thinking about its placement... you're pretty sure that if you opened it you'd find yourself on the outside of your home. You twist the knob open and find yourself in a slate white room, bright and blinding and searing. You swear you've been here before... ages ago. But you're not quite sure where...

Of all the connections to make in these murders the only one that stands out to both the police and the media is the fact that all the victims where dressed as various horror characters from movies, and stories. Freddy Kruger was the first, Chucky was the second, and now Jason Voorhees, but the biggest connection between all of these characters is that those same costumes have vanished from the racks a Local Halloween store...

          Mixed Drinks
There's something delicious in your drink. It tastes like iron and old sin - turpentine and old tobacco smoke. Is it just you, or does that bandage on the bartenders wrists look like it was just put there? And why is your dinner partner coughing like she has a ten-pack habit?

So good bye, good luck, and have a nice day.

Waking up next to a corpse? Waking up in a body bag? Decisions, decisions... Ah, got it.

The mayor has just missed a day at work. It was her daughter's sweet sixteen yesterday so that may not be too strange, and her husband isn't at his job at the law office either... in fact, nobody who was at the party seems to be at work. They're all asleep. And they won't wake up. And the thorn bushes around the mayor's house are growing out of control...

              About blood.

See, this week there's a blood drive in the neighborhood and being the kind and giving folks that they were, the community went to donate blood en mass, usually at their own finacial expense. The turnout was exceptionally well.

They were all told that eveyone that the blood was going to malaria victims... though there's been some rumors from one of the elderly members, claiming that she saw one of the people sponsoring the drive were...pouring it into a wineglass...

She died in her sleep days later natural causes they say.

It was a really bad idea to enter this strange tomb that you and your friends found in these old woods, but how often does one stumble upon an ancient Roman tomb in Canada.

The historic impossiblity should have been your first warning that this tomb was unnatural, but people had discovered Viking ruins in Canada, so why not Roman.

As you delved deeper instead the tomb, the black marble that was made up the tomb grew warmer, and seemed to vibrate when you touched.

Some elements liked like they belonged to the Romans, but so many elements were wrong, like how the words written in latin, but strung together in ways that made no sense.

Finally you and yor friends arrived at the heart of the tomb only to scream when you find...

                  It's kind of a lark.

It seems silly to do such a good Halloween haunted house, only to awkwardly jam Christian fundamentalism in there for some vague message, but you're not one to judge. You're here to mock. The problem is, the production values really are something. The demon costumes are almost Hollywood quality, and you really have to wonder how the Baptists with the broken sign managed to get a hold of...wait, is that actually sulfur? Did they just light that guy on fire?!

This is when you start to wonder just what that "guest book" you signed at the door was all about...

                    The Anniversary

The local bookshop in town is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a party! The proprietor said it was open to everyone, but you must have bought something from her in the past. That doesn't exactly stop folks from showing up for free food despite having never having set foot in there before. It's strange, then, when those freeloaders come in the next day, and the next, and the next. What did she do to them?

It's the third time this month, your CPU caught fire in a brand new computer. The fire department is sick of getting calls to your apartment while you're out.

Enough is enough, you're gonna stake out for the day and figure out what the hell is happening. Whatever's happening to your computer, you're finding out.

Some of the children in the area have been suffused with a strange bloodlust and odd luck. The teacher at a school had a Piano fall from greaat heights to crush her, she somehow seemed to still be alive when an anvil from the same move dropped and crushed her head. Parents call the police on young children as they bash skulls in, but somewhere else, a church declares it a miracle when one of their members children survives after getting lost at a construction site and falling a great height.

Something is going on here, a creature always giggling with a stitched wide grin whispers in their ears, giving their servants protection from harm to do it's bidding.

                          Open Highway

It's a wide-open stretch of cracked, faded, utterly flat asphalt, arrow-straight for miles. It's been featured on at least one documentary about superfluous construction projects, rife with speculation and corruption, obsolete even as it was built. It's been badmouthed on blogs about infrastructure decay. It's probably interrupted the migration of some vital animal or another.

That's all the usual civic crap that accompanies any project, though. There's nothing special about that. Probably.

What's special is the fact that automobile fatalities are ridiculously common on that stretch, in defiance of the near total lack of obstructions on the road. There's no Dead Man's Curve to blame, hardly even a tree to hit- just farmland, a few country road intersections, some scrubby copses back from the road a ways distant, and some derelict shacks.

People just... crash. Always at night, and almost never locals. Many places, the dividers and turf off the edge of the road show scars and stains from even more wrecks, even some oil and broken glass... but no cars. The nearest thing to a pattern is an out-of-town driver who staggered into a sheriff's station at one end of the stretch, yelling about how something indistinct just off the road distracted him into driving through a scarecrow placed squarely in his path of travel.

                            The Crawlspace
It always smelled of ash the old crawlspace. The house had never been burned down or had any fires started there but for some reason the crawlspace under the house always smelled like someone had just burned something down there. But on one night out of the year something strange happens if you're watching, the door leading down there begins to glow. If the door is opened before the night is done nothing happens the crawlspace is exactly the same as it was the night before, but if it stays shut the whole night then the next day there are strange messages written in an unknown language burned into the walls that before the week is out vanish as if they were never there.

When you were young you knew the local caves and crevices like the back of your hand and every summer you still come back and do a little spelunking. You can't ever remember this new cavern and using some basic climbing gear you explored. It felt like hours and it seemed to go on forever, but when you came back only a hour at most had past. You still feel the odd chants deep in your bones and you plan on going back tomorrow.
