  • The Begotten-Spawned

So one of the big parts of Begotten mythology is that a huge number of other creatures in the setting (vampires, werewolves, faeries, Prometheans, mummies, etc.). Whether or not it's true isn't really important in my opinion.
However, this part of Begotten mythology got my attention & I started thinking, what if there were creatures out there that genuinely had this as how they came to be?
Thus were born the Begotten-Spawned, a.k.a. the Children's Children, & sometimes referred to as "little cousins" by Begotten.
Things to consider when creating Begotten-Spawned are:

    • Family of the progenitor.
    • Hunger of the progenitor.
    • Aspirations of the progenitor.
    • What was the going through the progenitor's mind at the time of "spawning" or what were they doing?
    • The design of the progenitor's Horror.
    • Merits the progenitor has/had.
    • Atavisms the progenitor has/had.
    • Established kinships of the progenitor.
    • Seriously anything else that might work.

In the following posts I will establish a range of ideas for various Begotten-Spawn, some more fleshed out than others.

Nimrods: giants entrusted with a sacred duty. These beings are most commonly found in a certain area in the English countryside. They are a mighty race of all male creatures. They fear not the ravages of time for they are immune to its hideous effects. The guard the region against the horrors that emerge from one of the Lower Depths, for a door to it is in the region. Their powers lend to combating these foes, to silent tracking through the local landscape, & to standing strong & mot yielding to their foes. They are on average 8-feet tall & something about them makes it hard for them to pass as just very tall humans.
Any who carries the nimrod gene but is not one in full (the gene is rumoured to be recessive) gets an extra point for Resilience, extended life-expectancy & finds things are easier when fighting for an assumed "duty", whatever that duty may be.
Also, Bale Hounds hate them for some unknown reason.
The Begotten that birthed these giants was a Whisper Anakim. He found the door to the Lower Depth in question & concluded that he should stand guard against it for all the locals. He wound up dying in the course of this duty, but by then his blood had soaked into the soil causing several local women to birth the first generation of nimrods.

Werebats with blood magic (life & death) cast by shedding their own blood. Gravitate towards the top of the heap.
They were spawned by an Apex Ugallu Tyrant from the forests of Central America. They make more of themselves by having sex with a human under the light of the full moon, either some ritual preparation before. Gender does not affect this ritual, but the werebat is always going to be the one that gets preggers.

A breed of large, poisonous frog-people. They live in a swamp. The first generation of them were born from the mating (maybe literal) of a Makara Enabler & a Namtaru Nemesis. Whenever one them dies, a new one always emerges from the murky waters of the swamp.

Kurangaituku. A unique Begotten-Spawn that emerged from the cooling corpse of an Ugallu Predator in pre-Colonial Aotearoa. Can speak the language of the birds. Not very strong, but very fast & can fly. It is unknown how she managed to survive her encounter with Hatupatu.

A race of creatures with mismatched limbs, mixes of animal & human parts, with little in the way of rhyme or reason. They make up a small church dedicated entirely to the Dark Mother. They were spawned by a Typhon that was skilled in Obascus Rites & perform their own kind of religious ritual magic.

Typhons are a fan-made Begotten Family that are of Nightmares of Chaos.

Shikome: women that are born from the Japanese Irkalla called Izanami. They are unable to defy an order that comes from her. Of the original eight, only three remain & they have an additional ability which was not inherited by the succeeding generations, they are immune to the ravages of time. They make more of themselves by kidnapping women & performing a month-long series of rituals & ceremonies.

This variety of Begotten-Spawn are connected to a strain of the cursed blood that I came up with. This strain has been posted on the thread "Strains of the Cursed Blood".

A tiny bird with a beautiful feather pattern, that was birthed by an Ugallu Enabler. It is a manipulative "devil-on-your-shoulder" kind of threat.

A breed created by an Eshmaki that could never decide on what Hunger it should have. Each one of them can show influence from any of the Hungers (the Hoard, Power, Prey, Punishment, Ruin, Secrets, Transgression).

Aquatic shapeshifters that are human at one end & serpentine shark-like monsters at the other.
They were spawned by a Makara with strong Kinship ties to several of the Forsaken & perform the Forsaken's task in the world's oceans.
They appear to be human most of their lives, then one night on a beach with the light of the full moon shining, their aquatic heritage will awaken.
They have three "Tribes" & the Totems for these Tribes are a savage, bloodthirsty shark spirit, a tough, enduring turtle spirit, & an intelligent, quick-witted octopus spirit.
Joining a Tribe requires a variation on the Uratha tribal joining ceremony.
There is also a thing called the Odyssean Voyage where one journeys deep into the Spirit Wilds of the ocean to meet their Tribal Totem.
Any who undertake the Odyssean Voyage get strengthened in some way as a reward for their hard work.
They have four primary shapes to take: human; near-human; hybrid; beast. They do not have a near-beast shape because their beast shape has no real-life counterparts.
They can learn Gifts just like Uratha can.
There are several other parallels to Uratha including the fact that they have their own set of rites.
They do not have multiple Auspices, which can be a bit of a sort spot for some of them.
