  • Portraying Beast as Inferno

    I know some people've seen the text and mechanics for BtP, and wanted to ask if it's possible to portray (or translate) the splat as an extension of the Inferno supplement. Granted, DtD already represents demons well enough, but for the sake of argument, if you wanted to play a Beast demon from Abaddon and the lower mysteries, would it be easy enough to do? Like, maybe the Lairs of Beast Demons are akin to Dominions, while each Family represents a House or species within Pandemonium, the Eternal Nightmare.

    And if you were going to have both splats represented (and you're D&D nerd like me) you could even say it's akin to the Blood War between Demons and Devils. Hypothetically speaking, that is.

    It probably wouldn't be too hard, just switching astral stuff out for Inferno, putting the Lair in some sort of pocket hell dimension. It would obviously drastically change the themes involved, and you would have to do a lot of work 'Inferno-izing' them, as they aren't really morally inclined towards any direction, and their teaching-through-fear is a much broader and easier concept to pull off than corrupting-through-fear.

    As it is, though, you can just link individual Beasts to more devilish things without any change at all, give your character some dots in Occult, make them a demonologist, their Horror based on some sort of demonic imagery without having to change the entire game.

      Not necessarily. Perhaps they'd be like the demons of Mage's Pandemonium, tormenting others in order to cleans their souls of impurities (or cull them, if said-Beast is martially-prone). Literal sin-eaters.

      Either, or.

        Ah, yeah, that could fit with the hell-as-punishment idea, too.

          There's room, certainly, especially given this is already a game where you technically play both Dracula from Castlevania and Dracula from Romania, but it's worth noting that the Children's Legends arise in a decidedly more organic fashion than the Testaments of the Diaboli and Dominions. You may want to replace Birthrights with some additional effect for Mother's Kiss and similarly adjust the particulars of the game if you intend to make a more direct interface between the speakers of the Dragon's Tongue and the conductors of entropy from before words.

          Insofar as there's grounds for a Blood War analogue in ChroD, the Unchained are arguably better positioned for the opposite numbers to the Begotten than the Whisperers and such; outcasts being rogue archons whose powers exploit the laws of the Demiurge makes them fit well enough with the devils' lot.

                Awesome, thank you!

                Edit: so translate the Families into the Dominion categories of Defiler, Nemesis, Slayer, Subversive, and Tempter. Rationale: The Hell-beast in question is forced to embody one of the five Aspects of Hell, each of which are given a caste as follows:

                Defilers = Desecration

                Nemeses = Confrontation

                Slayers = Destruction

                Subversives = Deception

                Tempters = Temptation

                  Wait! Maybe those categories would better fit the Hungers?

                        You also linked to an unofficial hosting of the first drafts when the original is still up.

                        We had one of those already.

                        The Hungers map a little better to Vices, just as Lair Traits serve reasonably well as Key-equivalents. I wouldn't make too much of a deal out of categories Inferno explicitly calls "strictly informal."

                            Apologies but that was the closest I could find seeing as the revised was closed also I did not really check if they had a thread on changes.

                              Okay, so from the limited information I have, do you guys think we should just translate the pre-existing Families into the aforementioned "Castes"? If not, what 4 Atavisms should each one thematically get?
