  • Mirror realm and mirror people

So on 69 they reference mirror people and the mirror maze. One page 146 the power mirror walk lets you visit that realm. Are there any other places that describe what this place is and who the people in it are like?

Page 267 of the CofD corebook has a bit more, including stats for running them as antagonists. Here's the most relevant part:

Most of the time, that’s all true. But some mirrors — and no one can really say which, or why — are different. Sometimes the light you see coming out of a mirror isn’t reflected at all, but shining out of the Place on the Other Side. It’s a world as full of life and energy as our own, but it only exists when it’s being observed. When no one’s looking, it’s just a void of unreality. Our doubles cluster at the mirrors, hungry for those few moments a day when we brush our teeth or check our makeup. Mostly they’re content to mimic us, or maybe that’s all they can do, but every once in a while the membrane of silvered glass thins. Stare at your reflection too long in a dim room, or catch it out of the corner of your eye, and they can come through. And oh, they want to come through. They want to exist when nobody’s looking, to be really, wholly real, and they don’t care who they have to drag screaming into the Place on the Other Side to get there.

The Chronicles of Darkness Rulebook, on p. 267, has a writeup of Mirror People as a sample Horror. Some of the interstitial fiction between chapters in that book also pertains to mirror people.

Are Hobgoblin mirror people and CoD Mirror People horrors the same? I assumed they were separate because one type is Fae and one is not, I think?

There's no fixed canon, so they can be separate if the ST wants them to be. But the CtL corebook implies, to me, that the "place behind the mirrors" from CofD core is actually part of the Hedge. That's why things like Stealing the Solid Reflection work.

What about that suggests they are the same, just curious?

The fact that you can access the place where the mirror-people live through mundane mirrors in the ironside. Having two separate mirror-worlds both accessible in the same way just seems confusing.

It's kind of a huge stretch to say "this place is an empty void that exists as an entire world like our own when it's observed and connects to our world unpredictably through reflective surfaces" and "these places are called the Halls of Mirrors for reasons that are visually self-evident and they exist as mazes within the Hedge that can be peripherally accessed through specific (mostly Royal) Contracts," as well as "these people can cross over when their double sees them do something unexpected in dim light, they have sporadic warped-reflection qualities to their physicality, and they all want to replace the people they reflect" and "these people are created when someone can't bear to look at their reflection, some of them are implied to be face-changers, and many of them are content to watch the world outside of mirrors," is "both mirror-worlds accessible in the same way."

Like, it's not confusing that two different literal mirror-worlds are both accessible in ways that involve a mirror at some point. The Shadow fits a certain version of that description and is completely separate from either of the above.

Agreed, the descriptions don't match up and the CoD corebook's Mirror People aren't fae.

They're the same. They were conceived as Hedge creatures when the CofD core was written, and their home in the Halls of Mirrors was written specifically for them.

There are other references to Changeling in the CofD core.

                    Watch the eyes.

Well that settles that as far as I'm concerned, thank you Rose. Hopefully we will get more details in Kith and Kin or The Hedge.

Time to read the CoD corebook.

It's also worth noting that "fae" is a shorthand. If guinea pigs, just normal guinea pigs like you had in first grade, only existed in the Hedge, we'd call them hobgoblins.

and on that note, watch out for hedgehogs with rings

If Mirror People are Hobgoblins, can they be summoned by the Royal Contract that summons Hobgoblins (and Items)?.

Also can you build a Hollow in the Mirror Realm?

My immediate thought, on both questions, is "yes, but watch your back, because having the mirror people angry at you isn't fun".
