  • 101 True Fae Aspirations/Motivations (Not Including Tracking Down the Lost)

Recently talking to a friend got me to want to flesh out the personality of my True Fae so they aren't just one dimensional characters. The book does a good job of telling the Storyteller to make sure True Fae have aspirations outside of just tracking down the Changelings.

So I thought having a list of True Fae aspirations/motivations that might be helpful for people starting out. Here are a couple that came up.
    • Become Famous: This True Fae wish to have followers like in the olden days . Instead of worshipers the True Fae is looking to reach mortals through social media. In doing so this True Fae will gain the Title of "Influencer".
    • Unwanted Rivalry: This True Fae has a rivalry with another True Fae. Both have territory that is getting closer and closer to one another within the Hedge. While both parties have tried to keep their distance the Wyrd has been pushing them closer and closer, conflict is almost assured. Both are interested in keeping this conflict from happening and will gladly give a Lost a spare weeks if they can help delay the war.
    • Hostile Divorce: Though it is not heard of, this True Fae couple were once a powerful duo. They managed to keep their relationship afloat for eons and inspire many stories of "true love". Recently they have broken up over a petty squabble; but each is looking to get back at the other. Many a changeling has staved off their capture by promising to strike a blow against their ex-lover.
    • Become a Real Person: The True Fae is enamored by humanity so much so that they actually wish they could become human or spend a day in the life as a normal person. Such a thing is next to impossible especially with how the True Fae are weakened in the mortal world. A Changeling who makes a deal to be a tour guide to the True Fae may gain a great boon. Though remember the True Fae are used to getting everything they want, and the human world is not equipped for that type of being.
    • Create a Multimedia Franchise: Many wish to have immortality through their work, but True Fae already have true immortality. This one has been letting its "toys" be the characters in its story, with itself being the protagonist. If only the True Fae was a good writer, but its written something. Now its just needs to manipulate mortals into making it popular.
    • The Drunkards Wager: This True Fae made a pledge while under the influence of a potent narcotic to the True Fae. And they have forgotten what it was they pledged and to who. Not wanting to get backlash from the Wyrd they are scouring the Hedge for information about what the Pledge was. The twist the Pledge included a clause that the True Fae would forget the nature of the Pledge, and the Notary who the Pledge was written on was "Exiled" to the mortal world.

Okay, so my current working plan for my campaign's True Fae is that it is trying to become the next J.K. Rowling. The problem is all her books are just personal accounts of what her Changelings have done and that she needs a couple of things before she can do this.

        Her plan is as follows:
        • Recover several of the following Changelings:
          • Her Ghostwriter that was a famous author, before she replaced him with a Fetch.
          • A printing press themed Changeling that will magically create copies of the books.
          • A Helldiver who infiltrated a book publishing/distribution company.
These aren't necessary, but make her task easier. Now what happens when she doesn't get one of these Changelings back? Well she carries on with the plan in a different, but less efficient way.
        • If the Ghostwriter is missing she has to go with her first draft, which is terrible. So she will resort to sending her minions to manipulate human's dreams to get them to dream of her novel. Creating a "Cult" hit.
        • If she can't get the Helldiver to help her land a publishing deal she will try to self publish, but then she's sending Helldivers onto the street leaving boxes of her books in random locations.
        • If any of this doesn't work she's going to try to create a film by stealing film makers or various other creative types.
Several scenes I want to have to hint to this happening:
        • Hobgoblins are getting paid extra by the Keeper for grabbing creative types. The local Goblin Market is paying good money for information about where certain writers live in the Mortal world.
        • A Changeling bookstore owner is getting harassed by a publishing company to stock a book series that he's never heard of, but already has several books printed.
        • The Motely find one of the books/movies and realize that the story is about them. Not just a fractured fairytail that sounds similar, but word for word identical to a memory that they have from their time in Arcadia. Perhaps this doesn't come to light until they get an Icon.

On the note of a multimedia empire, imagine how much youd save by filming in Arcadia where you can reshape things at your whims. Of course, assuming the cameras work.

In the section on hollows they mention how TVs can get episodes of shows that never were made. There is definitely a lost in my setting who tape records all of these and sells them. And will pay top dollar for any Firefly episodes.

                - artistic immortality - get the greatest artist of each generation to paint their portrait.
                - a debt that can never be repaid - long ago, a mortal helped the fairy in a time of great need or aided them achieve a personality defining victory. the fairy is still indebted to the mortal and due to some weirndess of the wyrd, this favor lives on in their heaping of blessings on their descendants and their interest in the family's success.
                - murder porn aficionado - this fairy has spent the last 65 years obsessing over true crime documentaries and the psychology of murderers. in particular, they find the role of the victim fascinating, and has taken to finding and grooming would be psychopaths ... driving the ensorcelled to murder with themselves starring as the murdered.

-The Great Detective: Solve crimes in the mortal world, particularly those perpetrated by other powerful, supernatural beings and bring them to justice.
-The Vigilante: Similar to the above, but become a costumed superhero, following the rules and tropes of the genre.
-The Jackass: Find some way of pranking, embarrassing, or otherwise genuinely pissing off as many stupidly powerful individuals as possible, such as multi-master Mages, ancient vampires, or entire Tribes of Werewolves, surviving all attempts at retaliation, until you become a legend in such circles.
-The General: Lead the combined forces of the Gentry against an adversary of cosmic magnitude, and defeat them, reminding everyone of just what the Fae truly are capable of.
