  • 2e Changeling Characters

I just thought it would be cool to have a thread where we can show off characters we we have come up with so far and would like to use as NPCs or Play ourselves.

Name: Alexander Sinsoul Seeming: Darkling Kith: Dearheart/Shadowsoul Court: Brass

Merits: Dual Kith •••, Potent Kith ••••, Hedgespun token: Grimiore Sinsoul •, Court of Brass Mantle ••, Goblin Vow: Grimiores •.

Pledges: Court of Brass, Toronto Freehold.

Contracts: Control Elements: Light ••• (darkling effect), Inanimate Communion • (viewing user verison) (Darkling effect), Know the Competition • (Darkling effect).

Mien: Alexander has horns of polished Brass, and a long tail with an arrow shaped tip. In the palms of his hands is Alexander's Sigil in glowing purple light. His Shadow is indistict with glowing eyes and its movements seem to be independant of Alexander's actions.

Mask: a normal dude, brown hair and eyes.

The Grimiore Sinshadow has Alexander's glowing sigil on it and it seems to be made of living flesh that moans obscenely when touched. The pages inside are also made of flesh, and they contain rites and secrets that have appeared in dreams Alexander's had or manipulated.

Alexander created the tome from a dream he had in which it appeared. He combined its cobble thought bauble with a grimiore he bought at a used book store and the screaming orgasm of a young pretty Obrimos Mage he'd convinced to help him.

Its mask is that of a leather bound volume with a generic pentagram on the cover.

To get full value out of the Grimiore Sinshadow he uses his Goblin Vow: Grimiores.

Alexander joined the Brass Court because he worships the Wyrd, believing all Gods and people, "real" or fiction, are aspects of the Wyrd.

Keeper: Alexander was out bar hoping and trying to pick up chicks and failing horribly, when a radiant beauty walked into the bar he was in. He started chatting her up and for once things were going extremely well.

She invited him to her home and he thought be was getting lucky. He couldn't have been more wrong.

Sadly for Alexander she'd confused him with a skilled player and decided those skills would be useful in controlling her Changelings.

Upon entering her bright kingdom she used her light to burn her sigils into his hands, both to enfuse him with her inhuman passions and to mark him as her property. This made him a Dearheart.

She got careless at the end and unleashed a blast of light that left Alexander briefly blind with a memto, his shadow had taken on a life of its own.

Alexander then seduced his Keeper, learned how to control light from her, and then used it against her.

He created a hologram of himself leading her into a trap while he teleported via shadows out of her Kingdom.

Upon emerging into the Hedge he was marked by his betrayal of his Keeper, growing horn and a tail. The sigils on his hands changed from his Keepers to ones that symbolize the evolving essence of his soul.

Some people complained that they wanted Darkling Characters that didn't focus on betrayal, just on darkness so I found a solution, a darkness elemental.

    Name: Strix
    Seeming: Elemental
    Kith: Shadowsoul/Gravewright
    Contracts: Phantom Glory (Darkness)
Merits: Dual Kith •••, Silver Court Mantle ••, Allies: Strix •••, Allies: Ghosts •••

The Changeling called the Strix, aka Sarah Brighton, ability to become darkness/shadow caught the attention of the weird beings who call themselves the Strix, from whom this Changeling got her new name.

Sarah was abducted young and force fed the liquified shadows from tomb stones, binding her body and soul to death and shadows.

Its was her job to act as an Ambassador to the powers of the underworld on behalf of her Keeper.

Sarah escaped by surrendering her sense of self to the darkness around her, becoming one with it, till she was able to slip out unnoticed.

      High on a Hill Motley
Sharing a Durance under a Gentry who fancied itself a shepherd, the High on a Hill Motley started out with the trio of "brothers" Bill, Lee, and Gruff. Greta joined later, after making it clear she had no wish to return to their Arcadian relationship (and bore them no ill will for their means of escape). Currently, they seek a new town after the collapse of the Bulwark in their old Freehold, as well as any fellow Changelings that have escaped the Lonely Goatherd.

      Bill Goat
      Fairest Steepscrambler (goats are nimble)
      Hedonist/Passionate
The Motley owes their freedom to Bill. After he was captured and forced to be a goat, Bill spent a long time planning his escape. At first, he tried to rally the entire herd to come with him, but most were too far gone to care. But between Lee's knowledge and Gruff's might, he found the one bridge out of Arcadia guarded by one of the weaker trolls. He was able to trick the troll into letting him and Lee pass, with the promise that the next goat through would be much chubbier and tastier.
Bill looks like nothing so much as a satyr: goat feet and tail, nubby horns, shorter than average, cock-sure grin, and a penchant for being shirtless. He gives the impression of being much taller than his five-foot stature is. He likes being involved, and throws himself wholeheartedly into whatever task catches his fancy. Sadly, his fancy is much easier to catch than sustain. He's still a little worried that Greta resents him for tricking her, even though it resulted in everyone's freedom.
      Contracts: Vainglory 2 (Splendor), Riddle-Kith 3
Possible Courts: Spring, South, Jade, Snow, Pearls, Gold Rose, Garden

      Lee Goat
      Grimm Polychromatic (goats are stubborn)
      Impatient/Honest
Lee spent the least time taken, or so they assume; they're the one in the Motley who remembers the most about the real world, and the only one who recalls their former name. This acuity came in handy during their escape; they saw the threads of the story of the Three Goats forming, and inserted themself into the role of the Middle Brother, knowing where the bridge out could be found.
Lee is the most goat-like of the Trio: hairy body, rectangle pupils, jutting jaw, curving horns. There's something ill-defined about them; the middle brother tends to be overlooked, after all. Lee's good at research and finding patterns, but has a bit of a Cassandra complex; many warnings they give tend to go unheeded. It's a recurring (and frustrating) event where Lee will say something, no one will take heed, then Bill will repeat it and be praised.
Contracts: Talespinning 3, Changeling Fate 2
Possible Courts: Fall, North, Jade, Hart, Sand, Blue Rose, Swamp

      Gruff Goat
      Ogre Roteater (goats eat everything)
      Trusting/Kind
Gruff spent the most time in Arcadia; he remembers almost nothing from before his Durance. He had made many escape attempts on his own, but until Bill lead the way, he always ended up getting "rescued" before he could beat his way free. He was the one to knock the troll off the bridge and into the water (after she had been tricked by the other two). Escape has done wonders for Gruff; while he still uses his muscles rather than his head, he avoids violence, preferring peaceful (if physical) solutions.
Gruff is nearly seven feet tall and five feet wide, with huge curling horns, shaggy beard, and an almost palpable musky odor. He's very aware of how intimidating he is, but does his best to compensate. He's a soft touch, and always willing to help; this has led to him being taken advantage of repeatedly. He trusts Lee to point him in the right direction.
Contracts: Might of the Terrible Brute 2, Shared Burden 3
Possible Courts: Spring, West, Brass, Pine, Song, Red Rose, Garden

      Greta Sharptooth
      Elemental Gristlegrinder (eats goats)
      Gluttonous/Fair
Greta was one of the many monsters in the Lonely Goatherd's lands; the usual thing would be for a goat or two to wander off, and either rescued and admonished by the shepherd, or eaten by a monster. Greta lurked near bridges, as that was prime goat territory, but always in fear of the river beneath. It wasn't until the Trio's escape knocked her in that she learned to go with the flow, letting the waters wash her out of Arcadia and into the Hedge.
Greta's as tall as Gruff, but not quite as broad; blue-black water has replaced her arms and portions of her torso, while the rest of her body appears to be rough-shaped brown dirt. Her teeth are flinty and numerous, but carefully aligned and maintained. She tends towards boisterousness and self-indulgence. Sometimes she and Gruff gross everyone out in terrible-food-eating contests.
Contracts: Control Elements [water] 3, Cloak of the Elements [water] 2
Possible Courts: Summer, South, Ivory, Pine, Pearls, White Rose, Garden

      Shepard
      Loyalist Skogsra/Woodwalker (tends goats)
      Relentless/Kind
Contrary to the Motley's beliefs, Shepard, the one that kept the trio and rescued goats from Greta, was a fellow captive. Since the escapes, Shepard has been tasked with returning the errant flock and troll. This confrontation almost happened in their last town, but the Motley's flight at the Bulwark's fall postponed the reunion. Soon, though, soon.
At first glance, Shepard looks almost human, dressed in old-fashioned robe-like clothes appropriate to the job. Upon closer inspection, there's nothing underneath the clothes; it's cloth all the way through. Shepard is focused and wily; stubborn as any goat with a flock-tender's cunning. Shepard's voice is melodious, and sometimes lets out a warbling cry to communicate with other animals.
Contracts: Nevertread 2, Thorns and Brambles 3 (Leechweed, Briarpatch)

      Notes:
-Each character has a Vice/Virtue instead of whatever it is Changelings get instead, because the latter is still in flux, I don't grok how it works now, and I like Vices and Virtues. A lot.
-Kiths were chosen based on mechanics, rather than flavor, and are about fulfilling an aspect of being a goat or interacting with goats.
-If Grimm isn't an option, Lee can be a Darkling; their backstory changes to taking the place of the former middle brother through some sort of trickery. The Talespinning Contract hasn't been spoiled, so I guessed it was a 3-dot.
-If Loyalist isn't a proper Seeming, Shepard is Seemingless, due to not actually escaping.
-I used old Court systems, spoiled Court systems, and forumite Court systems as examples; they can be found (along with their simplified emotion) in the spoiler below.

Lee makes more sense as a Broadback then a poy chromatic. Broadbacks are stubborn ones, Polychromtics are rainbows who hide their emotions.

You might want to dual kith Geta with Troll/Gristlegrinder.

I considered Broadback, but I ultimately liked the crunch from Polychromatic better. Looking just at mechanics, Broadback benefits are about resistance and toughness; Polychromatic are about not being compelled to change your mind or fall to influence. Also, I wanted to go with less-obvious options, which is why none of the trio are Beasts, either.

Greta's a troll, but not a Troll. Her Durance wasn't about telling riddles or protecting an area; it was about eating delicious goat. She didn't catch goats to protect the bridge; she lurked around the bridge to catch goats. If she picked up a Dual Kith, I'd choose Shadowsoul or Woodwalker, depending on if she was hiding under the bridge or in the woods nearby. (I'm also of the opinion that a character should have a minimum Wyrd before getting Dual Kith, hence why only Shepard got one.)

              Name: August/Miles
              Kith: Mirrorskin
              Seeming: Fairest
              Court: Sand
Merits: Danger Sense ••, Demolisher •, Dull Beacon •, Fast Reflexes •, Hardy •••, Hedgebeast Companion •, Mantle •
Contracts: Cloak of the Elements (Sand) (Fairest) •, Fang and Talon •, Know the Competition •, Mask of Superiority (Fairest) •, Trivial Reworking •.

Breaking Points: People being forced to be something they aren't & family.
Court Info: The sand court is one of the three courts of the Central Coast region, the others being serpent and spider. This court is focused around tourism, entertainment, and events. They harvest excitement and their courtiers wear trappings with the themes of "Blue, Glaucus Atlanticus, Water, Poison, Casual". Their mantle gives the following benefits:
              • Courtiers gain a +1 bonus to Athletics.
•• Courtiers gain a dot of the Goblin Vow (Coastal Beaches).
••• Courtiers gain the two dot version of the Striking Looks merit.
•••• Courtiers gain a Personal Approach related to how they fulfil the ideals and story of the court.
••••• Courtiers gain either Dual-Kith (Sandharrowed) or can make Socialize rolls as rote actions.

Durance: He spent his durance as part of a group of changelings who are basically forced to shapechange over and over and be NPC's for their Gentries attempts at mastering the new storytelling medium of roleplaying games, and two of the rules are that PC's can leave whenever they wish and if a PC is killed they will remain dead until the party members choose to resurrect them. In the end, the character is about to kill one of the Gentry PC's, but instead searches him and finds his character sheet. Immediately, he takes on the role of that PC, defying his place as an NPC. But instead of immediately leaving as is his new found rights, he then decides to continue the adventure and fighting his fellow party members and putting them in positions so that the other NPC's can take the character sheets too and they immediately escape.
Hedgebeast: A vilderavn, a raven with what appears to be a crimson royal crest upon it's back, which is able to use the Pathfinder and Inanimate Communication contracts.
Mien: When not disguised, his appearance becomes a generally attractive melding of the features of everyone around him. If he is with a single person, he appears pleasantly similar to that person. There are some features that linger regardless of those in his presence; his eyes are snake-like in shape (though colouration still changes based on those nearby), his face is very pale regardless of the rest of his bodies current skin colour and he has a black spade symbol over his heart. Strangely his veins seem to be full of sand rather than blood, and any injuries he gains seem to reshape themselves into thirteen's.

Current Situation: Living with his own fetch and his old sin-eater girlfriend, finding it very difficult to get a job since places don't want to hire a person who has no history. While his fetch continues to live August's life and is studying at university. This leads to "Miles" going into the hedge to alleviate boredom far too often than what could be considered safe.

                    Amber the Lion Tamer:

                    Seeming: Fairest
                    Kith: Chimera
                    Court: Jade

Contracts: Vainglory •• (Envoy's Splendor), Pipes of the Beast Caller •••.

Merits: Hedge Beast Companion ••• x2 (A pair of Hedge Beasts Chimeras that look like a pair of Lioness' to humans, Amber calls them Vice and Virtue, they're both Incubi from Amber's Dreams), •• Professional Training: Lion Tamer, •• Striking Looks (Gorgeous and Busty).

Mask and Mein: Ambers Mask is of a busty blond bombshell, but those large breasts become a Lioness and Dragons head, both carved from living gold. Amber's own head has golden Ram's horns and eyes like a Goats, but carved out of Jade. When Amber's speaks, her voice comes out of all three of her mouths (Human, Lioness, Dragons).

When preforming for a crowd, Amber puts a revealing skirt and nothing else before activating Vainglory: Splendor if the Envoy as away of getting into custome. Using Vainglory enhances Amber's Mien, she ends up in a spotlight, skin glittering, and her voice becomes more musical.

Amber's contracts altered her Mien in the form of adding in a set of Pan Pipes, which are always on her person and which play on their own when she activates a contract.

The Pan Pipes are altered by each contract she gains (Pipes of the Beast Caller made the Pan Pipes, and Vainglory made them Golden). As they are part of Amber, the Pan Pipes can't be removed from with in 5 feet of Amber, if attempted they reappear on her person. No one else can use them.

Does this character actually have vestigial heads where her boobs used to be or am I misreading this? And if it's the former, what the hell kind of fetishes do you have?

Hahahahahah, LMFAO. Yes in her Mien she has vestigal heads, ones that speak with her voice. Its meant more to be disturbing then hot, although Mask is absolutely hot.

I mean she a Stripper/Escort on the side (Freelance Lion Taming at Circuses doesn't pay much so she takes her naughty act, her 2 Chimeras included were she can when the circus isn't in town).

So her customer is playing with her big breasts, which looks fine to the mortal clients, but to a Changeling, Fae Touched, or Ensorcelled Mortal, that works in they see the client stroking the muzzles of the Lioness and Dragon's heads, which are licking their hands in return with the Client completely unaware of the truth.

And if the Client decides to suck on her boobs he unknowingly ends up making out with the Lioness and/or Dragon head.

This amuses Amber to no end, she has a twisted sense of humour.

If she has a client that can see her Mien she strengthens her Mask, unless their into that sort of thing.

When she uses her Tunnelgrub powers to squeezes or grapple, parts of her body turn into purple energy.

Kim is a Professional Oil Wrestler.
