  • How to manage multiple Covers?

It's something always annoyed me: if a demon periodically switches his covers what happens to the dismissed one? Some say it fall into a comatose state, but how can a Mr. Smith fall into a coma and then get back from it healty and safe every three months, without his family and friends grow suspicious about it?

It says right in the book that your cover goes into quantum storage. It is nowhere till you bring it back out. Now even when its in storage the cover ages like normal so if you take the cover of a 20 year old man who is backpacking across america can go a long time with out contact so you can leave it in storage for lets say 5 years. When you use it again it will be 25 rather then 20 still.

As for managing multiple covers. I've always had the idea that each cover has its own levels of tiredness and hunger. So you could use one cover all day, Then switch to another one that's been asleep so you can keep going with out ever needing sleep again because demons in their natural form don't need sleep or food.

So just make sure you craft good lies for your covers. Example you take a family man that is devoted to his family. It would be cover breaking to take him away from his family to long. To make the cover stay away spend some time making the kids going to better schools or something so the family needs money so the dad has to take a job to support his family away from where the family is. Now make sure you skype every-night like a good daddy would.

According to Rose, this is not the case.

But yeah, maintaining multiple Covers is a pain precisely because Mr. Smith can't just disappear for months without notice. As Basic notes, it is sometimes possible to fabricate a cover story and get away with disappearing for a bit, but it's not really practical to have multiple high-maintenance Covers. Thankfully, not all Covers are high-maintenance; a vagrant, shut-in or eccentric can disappear for weeks or months without arousing much suspicion. This is also probably why demon's don't usually cash in their Soul Pacts immediately; why bother trying to balance a handful of different lives when you can just leave them in the care of their original owners and not have to worry?

Another option is to entrust your Cover to someone else. The rules for this can be found in Interface but TL;DR you can make a Pact to let another demon take care of your Cover (or even just a specific part of it, like its job or it wife) while you're away.

Basically Unchained maintain a main cover, with each additional one being a) on hold till it's needed or b) of an episodic nature that compliments the main cover's daily schedule (barring embeds that interact with said covers).

So, for example say you have a main cover that's a cabbie, with his own license and everything: he'd pick his hours, and even if that wasn't the case, picking a graveyard schedule in order to pursue the professional gambler schedule or the part time elemental school teacher cover seems feasible, if not fucking exhausting.

Extensive use of Alibi can help make sure your other Covers get "noticed" when they need to, but given the limitations of Alibi, it isn't something you rely on.
