Integrating Eremite's time splinters idea, you also have the option that the Elvis "Impersonators" are actually the real Elvis... from other time splinters.

Or even just one time splinter stuck on a loop, except each cycle, it ejects it's version of Elvis into the current timeline.

Local cryptids (besides the reptilians) could also be good for some side issues. Since your players are new, you could even use a cryptid as a red herring.

Dutifully noted. The ideal situation would be being able to show them the various aspects of the GM at work instead of sitting down and tell, so weird Cryptids can be useful both to showcase the side effects of Infrastructure and the fact that not all things caused by the God-Machine hide a huge conspiracy behind.

Gotta admit it's always fun to play with new players' expectations

Now, I just need to not steal too much from Fallout New Vegas but rather make some real creative efforts

So, the thread absolutely helped me moving my mental gears. Now ideas are flooding in, not to mention the one you people suggested. Thanks everyone.

If someone is interested I can eventually compile the various plot hooks, NPCs and places I'll use for the game in another thread in order to make a fan entry about the city not much different from those in the Demon Seed Collection, adding more as the chronicle hopefully goes on.

Going for casinos built as huge Infrastructure to Nevada Test Site nuclear shenanigans, UFOs, an Unchained urban legend that's pretty much "Elvis is not dead, he just changed Cover" and some more, I think I have some material to share

(By the way, Elvis is not dead but he's busy fighting Mummies, if you catch my reference)

            Random NPC ideas:

The Exile caretaker of a Concealment Infrastructure gas station in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much forgotten about, they are fairly friendly with Demons, even if they won't let them tamper with the Infrastructure they are guarding.

A Stigmatic gambler, aware of the Machine and trying to work against It via a string of hustles.

A nuclear Ghost, created from G-M backed atomic bomb testing in Nevada.

A Spirit of the Strip, the Lord of Neon, at war with the vice-fuel Spirits (Inferno demons or Maeljin servants optional) that are trying to usurp complete control over the city's spiritual landscape.

            General Story Seeds:

Something something about the number of drunken, day long marriages.

Time-splinter about run-away nuclear testing leading to nuclear war. Tie in to the above Ghost optional. (Basically an excuse to have Fallout New Vegas adventures)

Something about being unable to hail cabs.

References to trying to make it "family friendly" in the 80s.

More Elvis fun - make some facility (active, dormant, or Suborned) under Mount Charleston hold an Elvis in Stasis. For a reference to The King Under The Mountain.

So, how has Vegas been treating ya?

I've been silent because we're dedicating the previous week and this one to character creation (less awful than it sounds, our sessions are short and sporadic by necessity). Overall, my Storyteller's job has been replying questions and giving explanations, so I've been kinda busy on the practical side of things.

We should start playing towards the middle of October, I should have some material worth sharing by that date.

I'm a born and raised local Las Vegas boy, so if you need insights to certain quirks of things, I could give some advice. It IS very different off the strip (Local folks often avoid the Strip at all costs if they don't work there), out here it's more like a regular city, if on the poorer, less flashy side in some parts.

So, for example, the taxi cab thing. You can't hail a taxi-cab because they're contracted already. You either call a cab, or you go to the taxi lines set up outside of pretty much every casino, even many off-strip. The taxis line up and wait for the next available customer. So.. maybe the God-Machine REALLY needed the specific energy released when a taxi and its passenger to be are united? Well, sure, hailing taxis works fine in other cities, but here? It was much more efficient to automate the process, using the taxi-lines to auto-feed taxi-and-passenger relations at an almost 24-7 rate. A neverending stream of taxis and passengers sent out, to provide power. Of course, on occasions, the Machine also uses that same process to send couriers, especially unwitting ones (An angel brushed passed a group of drunk girls to deliver a tracking device into the cab of a potential demonic spy, or a cult leader simply knows the exact fastest cab ride wherever he needs to go from an app on his phone, allowing him to shortcut the lines). Of course, then those pesky demons that created Uber showed up in town and threw a hitch into the works, which is why there is an ongoing legal rivalry between the Taxi Cab Authority and Uber. Perhaps there IS a rebellious demonic psychopomp (A Charonesque figure) who is using Uber to fight the good fight? Is it a red herring, a false ray of hope, the Machine not putting all of its eggs in one basket and putting on a show to keep from appearing like a monopoly?
