  • Advice on a televangelist as a villain

I am thinking about buying Demon soon and i am coming brainstorming villains for it. One potential idea i have is a Televangelist named Pete Cox and his ministry called Mint River Ministries. Cox is a servant of the God-Machine and uses his ministry to serve it ends. Can i have advice on how to make this work as a Demon villian?

Is he a knowing servant, or an unwitting pawn?

      Most likely a knowing servant.

Then the next question is, how much does he know? Does he know that it is a God Machine, or does he think that he’s getting his marching orders from the Biblical God?

Single use minion, or longer term infrastructure?

Lone actor, or head of a cult?

Loyal, or with ambitions of their own?

He probably thinks the God-Machine is God, considering that it probably sent an Angle to deliver him a " new Gospel". Also, Mint River Ministries is Cox's cult which he leads through his natural charisma. He is loyal to what he views as the Almighty but might change that tune once he realizes that the Machine isn't really Jehovah. I wonder what this "New Gospel could be? Probably just the same thing an Angel told Marco Singe Also, he is a long term infrastructure.

What if the Minister is actually an Angel?

Could, but that dramatically changes the setup. Also seems unneeded, if just having the cult is important.

But if the Minister is actually the Infrastructure responsible for maintaining an Angel...

*grins* Uses the "tithes" from his followers to buy sacrifices to maintain the Angel, usually artifacts he considers pagan or otherwise unholy?

When the odd unbeliever doesn't fit the bill, sure.

And even once he realizes what is truly going on, he doesn't have many options if he is feeling regretful. The Angel could always Possess him if he gets uppity.

Depends, are we looking for a truly despicable villain, or a pawn? If the latter, keeping his evil to fleecing the poor and destroying history sounds sufficient without the need for human sacrifice.
