  • Question about Brand Soul

Could a Demon use Brand Soul to be able to find a soul after its dead to make rise dead easier.

Also another question could a demon use brand soul to track someone they kill after death to find them after they reincarnate into a new life and make their life the worst.

Doubtful. There is no evidence the soul lingers after death (baring special actions), nor that they reincarnate. And Demons don't really interact with what most would call a "soul" anyways.

Besides, despite the fanciful name, Soul Brand clearly just targets an organism, not their soul per say.

Yossarian: "And lo, it was optimal."

Soul Brand does, in fact, explicitly specify that it tags the target's soul, and does not work on targets that do not have souls. Demons aren't specialists on the soul as much as, say, mages or mummies might be, but Raise Dead already provides precedent that they can interact with it in certain ways.

The main problem with this plan is that the brand placed by Soul Brand lasts for a maximum of a little over a week before you have to go find the target and apply it again, meaning it's not a great way to find a soul posthumously unless you knew the death was coming. (If you're one of those demons who kill people intentionally because it makes Raise Dead easier, then yes, I'd probably give you some bonus dice from having a Soul Brand to sense.) Similarly, the Chronicles of Darkness are not especially forthcoming with the fate of departed souls, but even in a world where reincarnation occurs, you're going to have to luck into a reincarnated soul being reborn pretty close within space and time to where you are when the previous incarnation dies, because again, you have a maximum possible ten days to find the child before the brand wears off.

That's pretty much the definition of ST's oversight.
