  • [2ED] Alternate Origins For Geister?

From my understanding, Geister are usually considered as ghosts who gradually replaced their Anchors to the living world with aspects of Death. This allows them to acquire Rank 4+ and use their Influences to open Avernian Gates. Therefore, they have greater mobility than the typical ghosts of Rank 1 and 2. The transformation into a minor god of Death likely involves the abandonment of Integrity and the development of new Aspirations related to ghostly phenomena.

However, some Geister are stranger than others. Sometimes, this can be explained by the Geist in question having died a long time ago and/or eagerly embracing the Underworld. At other times, this explanation is not enough. There are Geister who appear as angelic, demonic or extraterrestrial beings. What if this isn't just a subconscious preference on part of once-human entities? 1ED suggested that the Cthonians might be ghosts or ghostly shreds of non-humans, perhaps including Supernal entities of Stygia who faded away by spending too much time on the Fallen World.

Could the origin of a Geist influence the template of a Sin-Eater beyond giving unique Keys, Ceremonies, ways to regain Plasm and such? Could there be a sixth Threshold for bizarre and/or abstract deaths? If that Threshold exists, is it considered "official" by the Kerberoi and other denizens of the Underworld?

I wouldn't be surprised if a threshold existed for characters killed in esoteric ways, such as a character being killed because they broke a fey bargin and the wyrd gets them, and the geists of the threshold are bound in the laws of the wyrd rather than the laws of the underworld. More Ghost + Gentry than Ghost + Spirit.

I did come up with a Blessed Threshold (chosen of the Shining Horseman) for people who died in ways that fulfilled a cause that mattered to them. It was little known among Sineaters, because of course people who die in circumstances like that almost never leave ghosts behind. However, they can leave charms and memorabilia behind, and are perhaps even more likely to.
