    1001 Hunter Story Hooks

    (Saw this was lacking!)

    1) Something went seriously wrong with the PC's last hunt. There was a witness that they failed to notice! The PC's know that their prey was only hiding in the form of a human, but the witness doesn't, and ended up reporting them to the police. 24 hours later, their faces appear on the news saying they're wanted for murder, and there is a reward for their capture! As if the mortal bounty hunters weren't enough trouble, the remaining supernatural creatures in the city now know the identities of the hunters. And worst of all, what will their friends and family think when they find out their loved ones are violent psychopaths?

    2) There's a new huntress in the city who's methods of exterminating the supernaturals is far away from being subtle. When confronted, she says that the reason these monsters get away with their crimes is because humans don't know they exist. She plans to blow the secret and let the whole world know the truth. Now the PC's are faced with a dilemma. Do they let her reveal the truth and send the entire world into a panicked frenzy, or do they decide to eliminate one of their own and allow these monsters to continue manipulating the people to their whims?

    3) The PC's all had the same mentor. He trained them, designed their equipment, taught them everything they know about how to hunt. So when he suddenly vanishes for a few months, they grow concerned and begin tracking him down. When they finally locate their mentor, they won't like what's become of him...

    225) For nearly as long as you have been a Hunter, you've had a particular monster who has been your arch nemesis. You've been trying to kill each other for who knows how long, and yet you two always manage to survive and escape somehow. But that might be coming to an end, because today, you awoke to find yourself in a place that was not your own, in a body that was much the same. It would seem that you and your nemesis have exchanged bodies while your sleeping, and now you've become the very monster you have sworn to destroy.

But that's not the worst of it, because once you take to the streets in search of answers, your former cell shows up, lead by the impostor, who, like always, seems especially keen on erasing you from this world!

    224. A sudden spike in the murder rate worries authorities and quickly the Player Characters quickly get roped into it. However all these murders couldn't have being done by one man and with a bit of investigation the PC's realize that there's a serial killer convention and they have decided to host in your city. Time to shut it down.

223). Surprise of all surprises, but a local Mask has started killing people in your area. He's even using a calling card, stuffing a Missing Person poster into the mouth of all of his victims. However, as the cell starts to take a closer look at the missing person it becomes clear that this girl is actually related to the Mask. Just what the hell is going on here?

    222) Your Cell has recently been attacked by another Cell accusing you of being "Cancerous". According to them, you are all in bed with the monsters. Literally. They think all of your groups' Significant (or merely recent) Others are monsters. How are you going to get them off your back? You couldn't have been so fooled. Could you? What will it mean if the accusations are true?

    221) Your Cell was having a normal meeting, until the lights went out and you were all knocked unconscious by waves of men in dark suits.

Next thing you know, you come to in a dark room with a single light illuminating a terminal. Surrounded by monsters. Who say they are your Cell-mates. When you check, you are a monster too.

Then you are given your "mission" - use your knowledge of the area's supernatural factions to infiltrate the monsters' organizations and eliminate a threat. Do this, and you can go back to the way you were. But the clock is ticking.

    a) The organization is an up-and-coming Conspiracy, that is trying out their experimental techno-occult mutagen on your Cell. Use the forms of monsters to join and destroy their societies, and the Vigil might have a new weapon in its arsenal. Don't worry, they promise to give you the anti-mutagen once the mission is successful. Provided you can take it in time, there should be no long-term consequences.

    b) The group responsible is another Cell - turns out a group of monsters were going to usurp your bodies to destroy the local Hunter community from the inside. The other Cell was able to decipher a ritual that would, in a twist of poetic justice, turn the monsters' own trick back upon them. The other Cell is working on how to get you back to your own bodies... before your minds fade into oblivion and the monsters' wills return.

    c) A Conspiracy calling itself CONTROL has been in the practice of implanting/infecting monsters with a kind of techno-occult Malware. They capture a target, perform The Procedure upon them, and can then know what it knows, and even influence their behavior. Even control them via remote piloting. CONTROL has conscripted you as "emergency assets" to deal with a critical matter using your exclusive experience. They have "activated" some of their "Supernatural Resources" in the region and put you in control - complete the objectives while control persists and they will let you go, or even extend an offer.

[This is designed for giving Hunters a taste at playing Monsters, Dread Powers and all.]

[Lights another candle for the thread]

    218) One of your contacts has occasional, random prophetic abilities. Just yesterday, they sent your Cell a warning to "beware the Ides of March".
    a) As the day draws closer, you've been noticing the silhouettes of owls perched on the branches outside your home. Leech activity in the area has dropped too. Wonder why.
    b) The message also said something about spiders and tangled webs. Your Cell-mate has become worried that it might be a reference to their new girlfriend, who they say has been acting more agitated recently and also hates spiders.
    c) You Cell starts tracking down leads to a big-time monster you've been pursuing. On the 14th, you've managed to chase it into a crossroads and lose track of which way it went. In the distance, you can see 5 towers, and each of your is arguing over which way it must have went.

    219) Your Cell has accomplished much in the 5 years you've been together. Now an ally has asked you to perform a task they were never able to - rescuing their sister from some monstrous abductor that stole them away 5 years ago. Doing so will mean going into some kind of other-realm called "the Hedge", finding the trail, and stealing the sister back.

It was tough, but you've managed to find her. Unfortunately, you've also found doppelgangers of yourselves who claim they are you, taken away along with her, a few days ago. They have to be lying, but how do they know so much about your life prior to then?

    220) One of your Cell (or an important Contact or Ally) has always been a tech-head. Well, they've just gotten the latest smart phone that is supposed to come equipped with a rudimentary Artificial Intelligence. It doesn't sound as mechanical and pre-recorded as other virtual assistants, sure, but AI? That's fiction. Except... this keeps using turns of phrase and reminding you of things just like a friend you lost contact with. Last you heard, they were going to work with some new tech company. Actually, it looks like the same one behind the phone (through a shell corporation)... Elysium Concepts Limited.

217: A local cell of leading hunters are in disagreement. A third of the group wants to focus solely on combating the monsters, a third are more focused on trying to understand them, and a third want to develop better means of understanding the occult. No one wants this cell to break up, they're too valuable to the local Vigil. They want a third party to come in to give them an outside opinion on what the better option is.

Choose wisely, choose logically, but most of all, choose quickly...

213: Old Ben Jackson, he's a fixture in the hunter community. He was the man that finally exorcised the Young property, and was the lynchpin figure when the area cells decided that the witches were a problem too big to ignore. He just sent out a message; terminal cancer from his years of work in the plant. His last request? Kill the vampire lord that he never could, and get his entire personal archive.

214: (Ashwood Abbey) It was a good idea for a Halloween treat, hold a seance at the "good" Rev. Ogilvy's grave. Only the dear reverend has been away from the pleasures of the flesh for far too long, and has possessed one of your number, the local barrister. The man has a public reputation for being tough yet fair at the bench, as well as being a devoted father and husband involved in dozens of charity projects. If Ogilvy goes too wild, it threatens to drag the entire Abbey into the open.

    LIVE!!!

211: Did you hear about what's been going on in Nebraska? The story is that someone has held up a convenience store run by a werewolf, and things got ugly. From there a werewolf holy war has seemingly been launched, groups of werewolves grabbing hunter families and using them as ritual sacrifices in sick ceremonies. The only way to stop this might be investigating the source, and that means traveling deep into enemy territory.

212: A satellite is said to have orbited the Earth since before men made it into space. Called "The Black Knight", the satellite is anything from an observer of humankind to a doomsday weapon. The only way to know for sure is to investigate. One of the conspiracies has ponied up the money, but can't afford to lose their best to something that might not even be their kind of problem. So congratulations, you're going to be the first hunter in space.

210: Living quietly in the city, there is a woman who is a textbook monster in every way but behavior - she keeps to herself, doesn't harm humans, and her live has been shaped by the effort of appearing outwardly normal in order to have something like a normal life. Having been this way for as long as she can remember, her existence has somehow been been revealed to the local hunters and she is in particular danger from-

    - The malleus malificarum, long night and even lucifuge, being a succubus. With stubby horns, the classic spade-tipped tail and an impossibly beautiful body, she can only really go out during Halloween and must work from home. Blessed items react to her as if she was a true demon, though she is entirely flesh-and-blood, binding or banishing rituals do nothing to her. Is this a curse or a demon in denial?

    - The union, after the lake she lives next to suffers a rash of drownings, mainly male children. The Rusalka swears she is not responsible for their deaths, and even has an alibi in a few cases, but who knows what the supernatural are capable of? She begs the cell to clear her name before hunters come after her with fire, guns, and 'how to kill a river spirit' they got off google translate. Did someone get their mythology wrong, or is this just a very canny murderess?

    - Null mysteriis and TASKFORCE: valkryie. Bad sci-fi movies aside, this robot girl is more interested in living her life than trying to kill all meatbags. Her creator/father passed away years ago, and an internet connection is all she needs to explore the world. She's a miracle of science, seemingly made without any supernatural assistance, and that makes her very valuable to the kind of people who believe in human rights for humans alone - taking her apart would advance science by decades. If her arguments about the nature of life and consciousness can't sway you, then consider what a group of amoral scientists could do with an army of killer robots.
